It's steel after all. Its based on elemental forces so of course they are going to be stronger. Just use the Fire, and electric types and make sure they have hyper beam.

1. steel isn't weak to electric
2. besides hyperbeam being full of fail, it won't do shit on a steel type

Steel types have very high defence, however they also more often than not have VERY low Sp. Def. which makes non-physical attacks the way to go.

So even if you're unable to use either fire, fighting or ground moves, a special based move of any other type (not being it's resistance or immunity that is) is your best bet.

The reason why steel is so good as a defensive type is because it sucks as an attacking type. Steel is the worst possible stab-boosted type you can have, apart from maybe normal, but at least normal has attack that you would actually want to use (return > iron tail, extremespeed > bullet punch, tri attack = luster cannon or whatever that special steel move is called).

I believe steel's only super-effective match ups are rock and ice, which are both horrible defensive types with loads of other exploitable weaknesses anyway.

Of course, the types that resist steel are fire, water and electric, which are all far more common Pokemon types on a standard team than ice types. Rock is a bit more common, but fire and water are still appear commonly.

You mean wrap, right?

Remember, just about every Team Rocket member had an Ekans, so they could wrap your Pokemon to extinction. I had red as well, so I got wild Ekans as well. Fire spin wasn't that common, if I remember correctly, but it might have been more common in Blue with the wild Vulpixes.
