I'm looking for more anime of the same feel as Law of Ueki, Busou Renkin, and (to some extent) FullMetal Alchemist. Not really plotwise, but the fact that they each of their own niche or special power that they excel in.

For example, Law of Ueki had everyone given a unique ability. Busou Renkin, eveyone had their own weapon. FullMetal Alchemist had some alchemists who specialized in certain alchemies (Roy Mustang + Fire).

Just a feeling in my gut wants me to watch one.

D.gray-man, definitely. It takes a while to get into but it's worth it, and everyone has that unique ability thing going on.

Definitely try the currently airing Soul Eater. Only episode 1 has been released, but it's good stuff.

Is Negima!? different from Negima!: Magister Negi Magi?
From what I read/heard, I interpreted that they were roughly equivalents...

Thanks for all the recommendations! =D

Negima!? is a spin off of Mahou Sensei Negima. Most people hate it cause it completely changes the setting and plot of the original Negima manga. However the animation is much better (SHAFT) than the first Negima anime and if you're able to look past the original Negima storyline it's actually quite good on its own. I love it anyway :P

Plus it was the first thing I thought of when you said "each of their own niche or special power that they excel in." Can't beat an army of 31 unique girls.

If youre not biased about it; One Piece,
its all about special powers and if you like it you dont have to look for another serie anytime soon ^^

Maybe also Hunter x Hunter, but their powers are less special.

They both started in 1999, so the older animation isnt as crisp as nowadays,
but they are very good series nonetheless

One Piece without a doubt.

The main character, Luffy, as well as several other characters have eaten mystical fruits known as Devil Fruits, which grant the eater a special superhuman ability. Some of the fruits let the user control a certain element, some allow the user to transform into an animal, and some give a superhuman ability like being able to stretch limbs, manipulate shadows, grow spikes on your body, grow body parts out of any surface (like make one of your arms come out of somebody's neck), and a lot more.

Oda (maker of One Piece) gets pretty creative with the powers too.

Hmm, I was considering One Piece and the only thing that made me keep it off until now is the fact that the series is extremely long (and currently ongoing if I'm not mistaken).

From what I've watched, these sorts of "endless" series tend to lose focus or plotline after they reach the >100 barrier. Is this problem apparent in One Piece or is it just as great from start to later on?

Im currently on episode 120, and after my opinion it gets better the farther in the series i come. But i dont know anything about the serie beyond episode 120.

Also there is naruto, but the events takes a long time and when the fillers come, you can consider yourself finish with the serie.
In Oda we trust.

The big idea of One Piece is to enjoy the adventure, a lot of time you are just having too much fun to wonder about the main plot.
besides from that, the story telling is still great and the main plot is only becoming more exciting with time. and i dont have a clue about whats going to happen next ^_^

If anything, it only gets better as the series goes on.
And there really are very minimal amount of fillers as well, and the fillers actually aren't too bad when you do have to watch them.

I'm not really looking for superpowers, I wanted an anime where characters have their own unique ability.

But then I realized it's not really the unique ability that I wanted. I was actually looking for an anime where the protagonist uses their head, outwitting instead of outfighting.

I'm tired of Naruto/Bleach/Shounen where the main character just gets stronger and brutes his way through all the problems. Why can't there be more anime like Death Note where the main character actually has to think things through a little T_T.

Bye Luffy! ^_^
no seriously, OP's battles are more like interesting confrontations between abilities, instead of being the strongest, but the main character can be pretty stupid.

and now im gonna stop trying ^_^
i dont have any other suggestions for you, cause youve seen everything else that pops in my mind.
