We talk about OPs and EDs every season, but what about the soundtracks/OSTs/BGMs? Are there any soundtracks from this year's anime that caught your eye/ear?

Let's also talk about any insert songs that deserve mention.

Only 4 anime with remarkable OSTs this year so let's go through them one by one.

- Chainsaw Man Movie: Reze-hen
Kensuke Ushio still the goat. In the Pool is obviously the most memorable but I'd also like to mention First Glance and Slow Summer Eve.

- Hanashura
I expected way more from this anime and Studio Bind (especially in terms of animation quality after episode 1 and the lack of aura in the performances), but the soundtrack delivered: Kapu and Kapu, Bell and Breeze, Room and Words are my favorites.

- Kowloon Generic Romance
I've been waiting for months and thanks to this thread I found out that the full OST is finally available online. Many good songs, my favorites are Nostalgia -Bokyo-, Lost Identity, Wong Loi Realty Company and Sweet Nothings.

- Toujima Tanzaburou wa Kamen Raider ni Naritai
Everyone will recognize the several insert songs (I like Rider, Rider and Fight Within the Light), but I'm also waiting for the release of the full OST: I want to see more anime with electronic OSTs (I don't know if there's a more accurate term).

I will probably update this list later when some soundtracks and insert songs will be available, but this is the list for now.
Apocalypse -Apocalypse Hotel

The Suspense of the Kitos-Dandadan Season 2

Let's Go!! Rider kick-Tojima Tanzaburo Wants to be a Kamen Rider

100 meters-Hyakuemu (Can't wait to watch the movie at the end of the month)

HOWL, REVIVER, and SHADOWBORN were all in my top 5 most listened-to songs on Spotify, so by far they are my favorites.

"in the pool" might be the track I'll remember the year by. Beautiful, giddy, fragile, with a hint of crazy and sadness.

For those of you not familiar:

"sweet danger" was also memorable, shock and horror, straight into insanity.

Kensuke Ushio delivered another amazing soundtrack this year/last year with Orb: On the Movements of the Earth. This track never fails to make me tear up in only 90 seconds.

I wasn't really noticing the music when I was watching the show because I was so focused on the voice acting, but now I realize the soundtrack contributed a lot to the atmosphere. Quality soundtrack to a quality show.

But I also found the story pretty disappointing...

Obviously tongue-in-cheek, but it fit really well and is a legitimately great song.

This music in the trailer got stuck in my head, and I couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks. Whoever put this in the trailer did their job.

I'm also looking forward to the Netflix release later this month.

The obvious answer would be In The Pool or rather the entire Chainsaw Man movie OST. Nothing else comes close.

But aside from that, my follow up would be the Silent Witch's OST. I especially love the more emotional tracks as they did amazing to elevate the moments.

I wish it was easier to keep track of the amazing OSTs I hear for airing anime. By the time the album is available to stream, I have forgotten which OSTs I liked.

However the one standout to me this year that would be impossible to forget was Takopii. Very creative and funky OST that's just a lot of fun.

The highlights of the album imo:

It really is shockingly good. It's weird that this is the same show where Bocchi the Witch mumbles the pig song, stutters "moni moni moni" and stumbles through tea parties.

A truly deranged choice of music. I get that this is the point, but the cheerful and whimsy vibes made Takopii's cluelessness extra infuriating for me.

Is Track 7 the one that plays at the end of Episode 2 when Shizuka thanks Takopi for you-know-what? One of the most memorable moments of the year.

Yes exactly! On it's own it's lighthearted and silly, but juxtaposed with the on screen horrors, it's quite chilling.

I just checked. The music that plays during that scene in ep 2 is actually a classical piece. Vivaldi's "Spring". Similar effect though

To be truthful, the situation surrounding OSTs this year has been quite poor in my book. Firstly, moreso than some other years it is more a case of individual OPs and EDs which I found beautiful and memorable than other in-series tracks of a lot of the series themselves, even for most of my favorite series I ranked the highest from among what came out this year. Like, even say my Top 3 or Top 5 series from the year are not ones I would note for their OSTs. Which is fine, as even taking non-seasonals into account, music is a major component of the overall atmosphere and emotional lifeblood and foundation of a series, perhaps second only to writing in importance to me, but it's not like every single one of my top favorite series of all time has an OST I consider amazing. And in a number of cases it's only one or two songs from a much larger set. So that is not something unprecedented and never something which can be taken for granted and inherently expected.

Secondarily, a few exceptions exist, one from one of my top series and two from series I ironically would definitely rank much lower and gave 6/10s, as sometimes happens (otherwise excellent series can have middling OSTs with a low presence or otherwise okay or mediocre series can have some beautiful ones within). But the problem is, even for those, the release situation has been annoying. Either the soundtrack hasn't been released or wasn't until very recently and in certain cases like that you don't even know the distinct name of the individual song/piece you're referring to. That's been obnoxious and limiting.

The ones I found best collectively from a series were Kowloon Generic Romance's OST - numerous songs, but first and foremost Tears of Sorrow. And the OST of Turkey! As another user mentioned above, Kowloon Generic Romance's was a real pain to track down and try and learn the names, if they existed, of individual songs or isolate them from a mixture or other audio of the series, as I looked for months and also only learned recently that the OST was released only several months after the end of the spring season (when the series aired), in late October.

Turkey!'s fortunately was released earlier. And then there is one song, the kind of epic and mesmerizing one which took your breath away as it played in-show and augmented the atmosphere of a particular scene brilliantly, from an otherwise very messy and troubled series - Momentary Lily. But again it's a case of not even being able to find it outside of watching the show or know its name, as I think that soundtrack is still unreleased.

So I'd post the ones from Kowloon Generic Romance, but as of now you can't even find separate video listings for them on sites like YouTube (at least the OST as one large mass is finally up) and from Momentary Lily, but that one I can't find at all.

As for the ones from Turkey! though:

Each Heart Has Its Own Beat:

Where Thunder Meets Resolve:

Sincerely, for Everything:

Ultimately Turkey! was a series I rated 6/10 and didn't select and single out as one of my favorites either of the year or even within its own individual season, but anytime since that I think back and second guess, questioning whether I should have rated and ranked it a little higher, it's always due to the music. An otherwise mostly 6/10-tier series with the caliber of OST of a 9 or 10/10 series.

Apart from those, if I wasn't excluding OPs and EDs, then I'm very partial to the Arknights season 3 ED (the OST as a whole is one of the finest aspects of the series and it's one of the most underrated of the 2020s decade up to now in my opinion, possibly second best of the current decade - not including all the in-series music I'd rank at the top of the year as it's a continuing/returning series which actually started in 2022), the Tasokare Hotel OP (favorite of year), the Tasokare Hotel (special) ED2, the Sorairo Utility ED, the Ruri no Houseki OP, the Ruri no Houseki ED, and the Kowloon Generic Romance ED.

Wow, those tracks from Turkey! really are great. I had to double-check that this is indeed that bowling show with a silly gimmick.

Yuuki Hayashi, reliable as always. He also did Medalist this year. This one cello track got stuck in my head, so much warmth and encouragement.

Speaking of Kowloon Generic Romance, thanks to @Nirinbo for bringing that up, I didn't know the soundtrack was out. Giving it a listen now. The soundtrack didn't make much of an impression during the season (the amazing OP and ED overshadowed it), but as I listen to it it's slowly coming back to me.
