Ok hear me out 😁
You see this isn't a bad anime at all, Like is absolutely nothing entertaining about it and it's as bland as colour white. There is absolutely nothing going on in the show, Just bunch of people going on about their day to day life and even those lives are extremely boring. But still This isn't a bad anime at all.

But I really don't think it should have a rating of 8.73 on MAL. This is just unfair, It has higher Rating than AOT, or one of the best work of fiction I've seen in a long time LOTM. It probably have higher Rating than many of the giants like Monster or Evangalion. I'm very sure even brick walls in AOT have more interesting stories about them than this show.
The point I'm trying to make is that these kinda shows, Safe sound mundane boring shows should have a different kind of rating system. This doesn't deserve to be called objectively mathematically a better show than dandadan or many other shows.

@Mathi786 I get what you mean but I think it's fairly rated and deserves to be above shows like Dan Da Dan and Evangelion or even parts of AoT.

First of no matter what way of a rating system you use, you can't really compare a romance or Slice of Life anime to an Action packed Show. Even if the story of AoT is better it doesn't automatically make the show better. For me and I guess a lot of other Fans it also matters a lot how much I can enjoy a Show and going from this Fragrant Flower isn't anything below a 8.73. I understand that this might seem like we say that this is better than that but in the end this rating is just an indicator of how many people liked the anime. This doesn't mean that you have to agree with that but it indicates how many people enjoyed it which helps others if they think about wether to watch it or not.

I don't disagree but I don't agree either, however I also think there are problems with the rating system, it would be better if it were something like this: for example, you could only give a rating after the anime has more than 3 episodes and if it is a movie or has only 1 single episode, you could give a rating after that anime has been made available to everyone, something like that I thought about a while ago, but Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku deserves a rating above 8, but I have to agree that AOT, EVA or Dandadan surpass this anime, for obvious reasons.

I get what you mean, but as we know so many more people have voted on popular animes like aot, and yeah aot is clearly better (opinions) but so many haters of it have voted on aot putting the scores down substantially. I think fragrant flower is deserved (i goddamn love the series I have the manga) but there's a lot less haters on it and won't vote it 1 star for the sake of it, as well as it being out for significant less time. don't see how a new rating system will work but yeah, I see where you're coming from

Unfair to what? You can enjoy your favorite shows without looking at scores based of audience polls.
This isn't an award ceremony that needs to have different winners from different categories to keep things fair.
All MAL scores represent is how good the audience thinks a show is, on average. It's not a metric of comparison, and it has never been.

They’ll never get over it. It’s sad they need to host these support groups every now and then to try and reinforce their awful takes. But you could lookup their profile and almost always spot the contradictions/hypocrisy.

I have my own rating System. Stars and hearts.

I usually read and watch a wide variety of different genres and sometimes you just can't compare them. A sweet love story can be all it should be, but how the heck does it measure against a thriller - or something completely different?

When I want to rate, I give the piece of fiction up to five stars for how good it is "built", i.e. I let my brain do the rating. And I give up to five hearts for how much I enjoyed it. I'm not saying it's a perfect system, but it works for me.

Here some examples how I rated stuff, and please don't give me hate, it's still personal taste...

... Evangelion: 5 stars + 3 hearts = 8
... AoT: 5 stars + 4 hearts = 9
... Kaguya-sama: 4 stars + 5 hearts = 9
... Fragrant Flower: 3 stars + 5 hearts = 8

(yes, sue me ;) )

... Boruto: 3 stars + 1 heart = 4 (dropped)

I rarely give a 10 rating, but One Piece managed to convince me there.

Even if you were good faith in what you were saying, anybody with a brain can realize the difference in members and not only the score, or better yet, not give a shit to begin with.

The score right now serves a purpose, which is not to point out which show is objectively better, but to simply indicate how much the people who watched the show enjoyed it.

If you think there's a way to do the former and not the latter, why don't you start by thinking about it and then saying it, instead of saying that other people need to think about it and make it work somehow so that you are satisfied?

It cannot work btw. Rotten tomatoes is proof. So make do with your own opinion bro geez.

I get what you mean but you also gotta look at how the rating system actually works. Big shows like AOT, Monster, or Evangelion have massive audiences.. not everyone watching them is a fan, so their scores get averaged out by all kinds of opinions, both positive and negative... But smaller, slice-of-life or niche animes like Fragrant Flower usually attract a very specific audience.. mostly people who already enjoy that kind of calm, character-driven storytelling... So when those people rate it, the average naturally goes higher...

It’s not really that Fragrant Flower is “objectively” better than AOT or Dandadan.. it’s just that the people who watched it rated it according to their own expectations and taste... The more people rate a show, the more balanced (and sometimes lower) the score becomes. That’s why comparing them directly isn’t really fair...

I totally understand what you feel... But bruh, you cant compare action genre with Romance!! Totally different. So you want to complain though about Clannad After Story? Or Koe no katachi because surpasses Attack on Titan which is better do you think? I think 8.7 still acceptable

You're just interpreting the rating system incorrectly.

Instead of "Kaoru Hana is better than AoT because 8.72 > 8.56", it is actually "4.2 million users engaged with AoT, and all of their ratings averaged to 8.56, while 305k users engaged with Kaoru Hana, and the ratings from those 305k people averaged to 8.72".

In simple words, AoT had one of the biggest audiences for anime, which brought a lot of diverse ratings(high and low), averaging at 8.56 . While Kaoru hana had a rather moderate sized audience, but the series was very well received by most of THAT audience, therefore ending up with a high rating of 8.72".

In even simpler words, rating on MAL is not a measure of how good a series is compared to others, but is rather a measure of how well that series was received by its audience. Every story has its own audience, the size of which varies.

Your post just screams "This story is too simple and relaxed for me, I don't like it", which is fine, as every story has its own audience. A good number of people like watching something that just makes them feel happy.

That wouldn’t do anything no matter what rating system you give it, it still would be point for point a more well rated anime and calling it boring is subjective and the rating system cannot and should not revolve around one or even a handful of individuals opinion otherwise it would just be curated to that person or group’s opinion, making it biased.

Well sure to an extent but not so much so that it would create an enormous gap that it would be worth mentioning as the manga is similarly rated so most people who have read the manga will also rate the anime similarly.
