I kind of was cornered to watch this by a friend but I finished it. S2 was mediocre at best until E19 and my rating was at 2(due to reasons) then E29-E23 happened; I'm not gonna lie, it went from garbage to masterpiece in an instance. The message, the struggle, the negotiations, deaths and reunification, like everything came together.
I raised my rating to 7 because I still think this could've been a 12 episode. So much details and slow pace events weren't necessary for the plot.
I'm not dissatisfied with what I watched at the end though.

I personally think the season was just right, and that the slow pace was necessary for the character development.

It needed its time to show that it is a slow process, i think it could not have worked if it where just 12 eps

The payoff at the end would've never been possible without all the "dull" moments you hated. A story can't just get good out of nowhere. It needs a strong foundation and build-up.

The climax of the arc wouldn’t have been as impactful without all the build up. Funny thing is, some people actually complain that Thorfinn’s growth this season happened too fast, which I disagree with as well.

The meticulous build up of events and character moments were why I enjoy this arc so much. The simple things like just trying to get a horse to help with their cultivation might seem trivial to some, but it’s a challenge Thorfinn had to face to strive towards a goal that wasn’t just to kill a man. Sverkel was a much needed and impactful character in Thorfinn’s life. Olmar’s arc was great. The little moments with Einar and Thorfinn help build their relationship to be as great as it is, especially down the line in future arcs. Thorfinn listening in on Snake reading the bible and seeing him have a genuine interest in the teachings, and understanding there may be some room for forgiveness for himself.

All of these things matter and play a part into the growth, no matter how small. It’s definitely a slow burn and I can understand why people might not have enjoyed it. But for me it’s my favorite arc in all of anime and manga, and it impacted me more than anything else I’ve seen in fiction. I give you credit for sticking through it instead of just dropping it though, at least you really enjoyed the last few episodes.

All those dull moments are a way of life, a way of life that gave Thorfinn a new meaning. it's what makes this a masterpiece. It changed my way of thinking. it's an absolute 10/10

It could've shaved off a few episodes. So in an ideal world, 18-20 episodes total.

What I do know for sure is that 12 episodes wouldn't have been enough. It's the slowness and the little things that make this season and make this character.

Overall I liked how slow the season was, but there were scenes that felt reeeeally dragged out, like the death of Arnheid's husband.

But I understand the producers needed to choose between 12 and 24, because that's how broadcasting works. 24 was still the better choice.

I can't take anyone who changes their opinion from 'garbage' to 'masterpiece' in a few episodes, seriously.
I'm not sure if this is Tiktok brainrot anymore, but it's pretty sad, still.

just right man i think the farming arc was well needed for the carecter devalopment and undertanding thorfins truma and ofcourse the famous orth he took of not condoling into violance but he like brakes that oth 4 times in the show but he technically doesn't cause if he did he is like the most skilled worrier of askalad and he beat the giant uncle aswell if he did go all out in the farm he would have easily won so him condondoline in violance is not even him filly condoling into violance if you get what i mean

I really feel bad for you for not appreciating one of the best adaptations of the decade from one of the Big Seinen Trio maybe you'll understand it better once you grow as a person.

Length isn’t an issue, over-direction is. Sometimes it’s better not to emphasize moments as extremely meaningful. My opinion

But honestly, I think the coaxing probably set the starting point to how you’d feel about the show. Never good to overly push someone into watching something because they’re usually more inclined to criticize. It’s kind of a subconscious attitude of “what’s so good about this anyway? Do I really need to watch this?”

i understand thorfinn wanted to change as a person but i just think the tone was already set for season 1 and focusing on cnut would be better

The start and end were great, but the middle part towards the last third of the series was a little slow, they could cut it down by 2-3 episodes imo. There's no way this should've been only 12 episodes long.

In my opinion this season's length was simply very solid. Not too short (though one more episode wouldn't hurt, definitely ;D), not too long. Two ONA episodes, each one focusing on an additional scene, also enriched the show without forcing it to have either rushed or dragged out plot to make a whole additional episode for the sake of these scenes making it to the show.

I think it was really good 10/10
It setups the tone of rest of the upcoming series.
It clarify that from now on it is not going to be an action shonen series. The series took whole one season to flesh out it's character which was neccessary for the story

Yes i think it dragged but not horribly so to the point of being a real problem, though still a flaw.

An example of a show that is the definition of dragging is casshern sins. The main idea of the anime is repeated but still nebulous enough to be confusing, episodes that are pointleesly progressed for the sake of nothing and a confused plot. Great opening though, wouls be great as a 12, 13 episode anime. Even wolf rain has the same fatal flaw, despite looking good and having a good opening as well), ultimately pointless.
