That's understandable. But Seishin Muroi had lost his own survival instincts and will to carry on living as he had been before the shiki arrived in the village, which is why he sees Sunako specifically and the shiki generally in a very different light. Like a (dark) breath of fresh air. Because they are here in Sotoba in the first place on his indirect invitation, after all. It's his description of the village - its geography and seclusion, economy, etc. from the writing in his novels which attracted them there. So Sunako interprets that also as a cry for help and sees a kindred spirit in him. Also demonstrating that they very much retain human-esque intelligence and feelings. As with all other organisms that have ever lived which we're aware of, they didn't choose their unique biology and circumstances of birth. |

| I miss anime like this, we don't get it anymore sadly I have this empty feeling I'm getting even after rewatching the show so many times, it's so insanely strong, it just proves that this anime affected me so much and it deserves its top spot on my favorites list, forever. What's so interesting is that my perspective of how I felt about the characters has changed as I aged up more, unlike when I was a bit younger when I watched it for the first time. For example, I used to absolutely dislike Muroi, but after these couple of rewatches and me growing as a person, I think I can relate to his stance, a little bit. The last episode leaves such a bittersweet taste, there is also that scene of Ozaki expermenting on his wife, that was really so fucked and felt even worse than the mass killing that happened later on. I feel so empty.... goddamn |
| So that’s how it all ends, humans won in the end, but did they really? Village got burnt up, so many loved ones were lost, and now everyone has to live with their experiences of killing the ones that look and act so close to us, safe to say no one will walk out of that place the same as they were before. But man, what a finale this was, it was pretty much everything I wanted for the most part, starting with the brutal death of Megumi, the one the show started with everyone searching for in the woods, but after seeing all of her acts as a vampire and how she was just a general bitch, she’s had it coming for so long. That being said, I did feel for her there, funny to think after I hated her all this time that I would feel any sympathy for her, but like all the vampires, she used to be human once and showed signs of regret near the end, like seeing that vision of Natsuno, but at the same time, that was very satisfying and felt like a reward for baring her all this time lol. And poor Tomio man, dude was one of the realest people in the village, said the 100% truth to Sunako before attempting to kill her, but I guess Muroi was willing to kill when the cute little vampire was about to be killed, RIP to a legend for the most part, I just wish he didn’t kill the humans that he did. And Natsuno went out in a blaze of glory with Tatsumi, another I wanted to see done in for all he’s done, it was so cool how Natsuno said “I just don’t like you guys”, Ozaki may have been more of an MC than him but mad respect for Natsuno, he and Ozaki were an unbeatable duo. And Muroi and Sunako got away huh, while initially this did upset me, after thinking a bit I’m okay with this, I’d like to think the two of them won’t bring harm to humans anymore, if Sunako learned anything from all that went down anyway, perhaps Muroi might find a method of feeding her without killing. And speaking of Muroi, never did hate him, yeah he was stupid but I like that he made me think, of course I am absolutely anti vampire but things aren’t so black and white and he’s part of why I think that. And lastly, thank god Kaori and Akira made it out alive, I wanted so badly for them to make it, especially Kaori, and thanks to Natsuno they did, and that after credits scene seemed kinda random with the appearance of Kanami and Natsuno’s dad, but seeing him smile at Kaori and Akira makes me think he’s turned a new leaf for the better. And that was the spooky vampire anime, sorry for all the essays I’ve riddled these old threads from 2010 with (including this one) but I just had so much to say lol, I do love a show that gets me this emotionally invested. It really was a good show, I may have given it shit at times like the first bit of the 2nd cour that was just more of the vampires getting their way and the humans being idiots for way too long, but the final leg of the show was so good and felt like a true reward for making it through that that I came back around to really liking the show, Ozaki earned a spot on my favorite characters list for his actions. That being said, I didn’t really feel the whole moral dilemma the show was trying to do, yeah here at the end I can say things aren’t so black and white, but the vampires are still absolutely blights that need to be stopped lol, there’s just no other way around it, just look at the way the vampires were portrayed early on, or how so many families were torn apart by them, yeah maybe coexistence is possible but Sunako and her vampire family went about things in the worst way possible in trying to create a vampire paradise, they are wrong and deserved their ends, that’s my stance on it. But all the plot stuff aside, show was also just a very nice piece of art, loved the unique character designs, the OST was so so good, very haunting and fitting for the show, and the production itself was very nice, nothing amazing but definitely good for what the show required. I also really liked the OPs and EDs, OP 2 definitely grew on me but I can safely say OP 1 is the better one, as for the EDs I think I like both around the same, maybe ED 2 a little more. And that’s it for my spooky month anime of 2024, it had its ups and downs but overall it was an experience I won’t ever forget, it’ll probably be one I think about for many years to come, maybe one day I might even check out the manga because I saw that there’s some stuff that was skipped. |

| i always felt bad for megumi, she didn't want to be there in that village in the first place & got made fun of by everyone for not fitting in. she just wanted better than what she had, the villagers killing her with no remorse was the cherry on top of how much nobody cared about her |
| Here’s my thoughts and feelings in a nutshell when watching this episode Overall this show was frickin’ amazing! At the start of my show I was kinda on the Shiki’s side but after later on I moved towards their side. |

| What happened to all that fun Megumi, Tatsumi, and the rest of the Risen were having just a couple episodes ago? XD Megumi got a way more fucked up death than I was expecting though. I'm satisfied, especially with everyone she killed and how much she seemed to enjoy it. Suddenly when people wanted to kill her, she wanted to run away and when she got cornered she tried to beg for her life. And not only that, but she brought up the fact that she was laughed at when she was alive, as if that justified her killing people, and even targetting Kaori. Zero sympathy for her or Sunako >:D Speaking of Sunako, it looks like she got away... and it kind of feels like bs. What car did Seishin take? He ran through the burning forest around him and found a car? And not only that but it looks like he used that suitcase that Sunako was in to get her out of there. Where tf did he pull it out of? It didn't look like he had it in the church, so that could only mean he had to go find it while the whole mountain was on fire, and then escape with Sunako inside it, and btw Seishin was moving at a snails pace whenever he was carrying Sunako before, so how tf did he make it out? It's bs, and tbh I might pretend that it never happened LOL it feels like a bit of an asspull... Overall though, I'm satisfied with this ending. Tatsumi died, Megumi got a fucked up death after everything she did, but unfortunately this will happen all over again because Seishin and Sunako are still alive. It sucks, but I'm still satisfied with this ending. When I saw the rating for this episode I was expecting way worse, but eh I'll accept this ending and pretend Seishin and Sunako were burnt to a crisp instead. It's funny though. Seishin refused to kill the vampires, and yet he helped one escape, meaning the deaths of all those people was for nothing... It was nice to see Kaori and Akira escaped at the end too, but question, where was Natsuno's dad this whole time? That's the guy who got on the bus at the end right? What was the point of that post-credit scene? I feel like it didn't really add much, apart from I guess the possiblity that the lady with the purplish hair might have saved her mother since she was hiding her when the village started to kill all the vampires. This show is probably an 8 for me. I was getting worried and I thought I would come to hate this show after this last episode, but taking into account the entire show, I really enjoyed it! There are some things that I think could've been better. The beginning was definitely a bit slow and yeah I can get why people weren't too into it, but personally I thought it was fine. Things really picked up from there and I'm glad I kept watching! If anything it was difficult not to keep going lol @aurora_yuuki definitely! This deserves more love! I've never heard of this show until just recently! Probably going to rewatch this a year from now in October :D |
