Well, earliest leaks and a poster revealed that this season would cover Arc 5 and Arc 6 with 42 episodes.

Then we got the leak that it'd be 38, with Arc 5 having 16 episodes and Arc 6 having 22. Considering that S3 ep 1 is nearly 4 episodes long, and that a certain episode of arc 6 can be 40+ minutes, it's still around 42 normal episodes length.

Finally around when S3 "Attack Arc" stopped airing, it slowly became clear that Arc 6 adaptation is getting postponed, probably due to the studio's concerns in quality reduction from a rushed job.

So S3 is now truly just Arc V and it ended with ep 16. Some things are true good to be true, and maybe White Fox realized it early when they started with a poster showing Arc 6 character and then went silent.

But we already have a S4 teaser just after S3 ended, something that was yet to happen in the franchise. So yeah, the wait won't be long. At least not 4 more years.

Edit: also I'd avoid talking about all the WF internal struggles, the deal with Sengoku Youko or other controversial topics. I literally have to dig out the sauce again.
