I can understand Subaru's personal feelings but her reasoning feels misguided. It would be helpful to see Kikyo to get a better sense of their environment.

So here we find out about Subaru's backstory, why she holds enmity against boys due to being bullied by them for her silver hair, why she treated Rintaro and friends like that outside the library in chapter 4, and also explains how hard Kaoruko has worked in order to get into Kikyo. Super cool backstory and serves a legitimate reason for the ways in which she behaves. Then requests Rintaro to leave Kaoruko alone to which he declines. Super cool scene there again.

How painful. It's sad that someone would say that to stay away from the person they like or just met.

Things are getting deeper. Subaru shows a softer side, and as I guessed, Waguri defended her as a child—not because I’m a psychic, but because that trope’s been used thousands of times in anime, right?

Subaru sees Waguri as her hero and wants to protect her happiness at all costs. But what will she do after Rintarou rejects her plea? What if something bad happens to Waguri because of their relationship? Rintarou even said it’s “over the top.” Why do teachers hate the other school’s students so much? It’s not even logical.

The whole chapter was just dialogue between two people, but it revealed a lot: Subaru’s backstory and that Rintarou really loves Waguri—so much that he won’t let her go, even if it means risking her hard-earned scholarship.

Honestly, thank you to the author. In another series, Rintarou would’ve been like, “Oh no, I’m a burden to her… I should give up on love...” blah blah. But not here!

Next chapter, let’s go!
