Okay, I’ve never played the Bang Dream game, and I started watching It’s MyGo!!!!! completely blind, with zero expectations—just bored and looking for something to watch. At first, I was kinda put off by the 3D animation, but I decided to stick with it for a few episodes… and wow, I’m so glad I did. It completely shattered my expectations. And Ave Mujica is even more next-level.

At first, I was thinking of giving it a 9/10 since I’d only seen 3 episodes, but after watching episode 4 and checking out the OP music video on YouTube—HOLY CRAP—the guitars, bass, drums, and keyboard are all played by the voice actresses themselves?! I was completely blown away. Their skills are insane! I thought it’d be like Bocchi the Rock!, where the VAs just do the vocals and the instruments are played by male professionals. But nope, this is the real deal, and I can’t help but give it a 10/10—or even more if that were possible.

yes, Bang Dream's seiyuu needed to be able to play their instrument. Not only with MyGO and Ave Mujica, but also with PoPiPa, Roselia, Raise a Suillen, and Morfonica as well. This is also similar to D4DJ where their seiyuu also need to be able to do DJ thing for real. Another girl band anime where the seiyuu need to be able to play instruments is Girls Band Cry.
They also have a live concert in Japan.

The concept of BanG Dream is "Girls Bands that are able to be their own seiyuu at the same time".

The girls are musicians above all. Morfonica has a freelancer violonist. She began playing the violin at the age of three and was a soloist for the St. Petersburg Festival Orchestra for example.
Or just look at Akane (Nyamu VA) in KillKiss live performance. She completely blowns me away every time I watch her playing drums. She's a freelancer drummer too and very fond of her drums (and she's pretty AF).

That's why some have 0 experience in voice acting. Soyo and Anon in the first episodes have a weird voice for example, they're total beginners in voice acting.

Not all the bands on the franchise do that tho, only the ones said in the post above.

I really recommend to listen to MyGO!!!!!, Ave Mujica and Roselia songs. I found them having the best music and singer of the franchise overall.

Ironically, the best band in the franchise, Afterglow (my opinion) are VAs who didn’t get good enough to play live. Bushiroad set up their first live show for March last year but cancelled it, I guess because they weren’t up to standard. Their drummer is Mio from K-On who toured extensively with HTT as bassist/ vocals at the time, but in Bang Dream they use her for drums. I bet she was good enough, probably Moca’s VA that couldn’t hack it as the lead guitar is insanely good on afterglow songs. Tall order.

The VAs must learn/know how to play their instruments to perform lives in front of crowds except for Afterglow, HHW and PasuPare.

However, all studio recordings are still done by professionals except maybe the pro violinist from Morfonica and others I’m unaware of. Of course, the vocals as well.
Truth is absolute but human perception of truth is always relative.

@kyou_on for Ave Mujica th Kanon and Akane really playing their instrurmnt since their was a kid. Akane even had a band before joining AveMu. Kanon also won the piano contest in italy when she was a kid. So we can call them a Pro for sure. Not sure for other 3 members

Studio musicians record everything except the vocals.

the VAs sing on the tracks and then get taught how to play the parts from the studio musicians.

@Zoshlog the violinist and akane blow me away. watched the lives yesterday for the first time for the groups and they stood out so much. i could not get enough of their artistry. the violin sounded like it was singing and those drums were so commanding.

The music in Ave Mujica is so good! Also, It's MyGo had some really great songs as well. I wouldn't put it at the same level as Ave Mujica, but episode 8, I believe, was super emotional and really well done.

After watching Girl Band Cry and finding out about this series, I have grown quite a fan of the genre!

I've seen all the bang dream girl bands perform live except AfterGlow and Ave Mujica is my favorite. I was kinda shocked when i was saw them for the first time in saitama; they are very impressive if you ever see them live. The other groups are good too, but something about Ave Mujica gives it an edge. I think the other commenter is right that for newer groups like AM, the girls are chosen based more so on instrument/vocal talent over just voice acting skill/fame. It was a mistake BangDream series made with AfterGlow since they never do lives due to the busy VAs. I also saw Kessoku Band in chiba lol, they're good too but you're right that the girls don't play instruments so it's a bit different but still cool

@AkeZZZ Yeah, Togenashi Togeari is impressive too. They were actually the first anime girl band I saw where the voice actresses could genuinely play their instruments fluently. I’ve been a fan of other girl band anime before, but usually, the VAs either didn’t know how to play or weren’t fluent at it, like in K-On! and Bocchi the Rock. That’s totally understandable, though, since it’s rare to see East and Southeast Asian girls into rock or metal, let alone playing it. And for anime, voice acting, story, and execution are obviously the top priorities. That’s why I was seriously blown away when I saw Togetoge and later Ave Mujica, with their VAs playing effortlessly and even improvising in their performances. Of course, I still hold K-On! and Bocchi the Rock! in high regard since I really enjoyed both. But knowing that Togetoge and Ave Mujica’s VAs can actually play their instruments adds a whole new level of awesomeness. That also doesn’t mean Girls Band Cry and Ave Mujica are any less in terms of story or execution, though.

Afterglow and Harohapi's seiyuus are mainly in anime industry generally doing voice acting, not like the other band girls which mainly in bushiroad agency

True, but they did try to train up Afterglow for live shows. Difficult given Ayaneru’s busy schedule I guess, and Yoko Hikasa also appears in 1 or 2 seasonal shows every 3 months. Miku Itou also has a lot of commitments and plays some great roles, but HHW never tried to be a real band. I guess Afterglow really were a special case tho, Sakura san has one of the best Japanese rock voices period. I hope she finds a band to sing in after her Bang Dream role ends, which will be soon judging by the storyline in the game.

well yeah, it all started with Terakawa Aimi the seiyuu of Toyama Kasumi, the leader of Poppin Party, performing with her guitar live on stage, and started the bang dream project.

@AkeZZZ If we are talking about the whole franchise as a whole, then not all. For this reason, a group like Haruhappy or Afterglow perform only in the person of Ran or Kokoro. But it seems that new groups are intentionally selected according to this principle.
