Manga author Chikyuu no Osakana Pon-chan announced on their official X account on Sunday that their Kirio Fanclub manga is receiving an anime and live-action drama adaptation, revealing a commemorative illustration (pictured).

Chikyuu no Osakana Pon-chan began serializing the romantic comedy manga on the Comic Ruelle website in June 2022 and released the final chapter on August 9. Jitsugyou no Nihon Sha released the fifth volume on July 18, with the sixth and final volume scheduled to go on sale on September 19.

Kirio Fanclub placed sixth in the 2024 edition of the Kono Manga ga Sugoi's Female Readers category.

Synopsis
Miyoshi Aimi and Nami Sometani are two high school girls who often find themselves talking about a boy in their class, Kirio. This lighthearted romantic comedy follows the daily lives of these two friends and rivals on a journey that, for now, seems to be heading everywhere but love. (Source: Comic Ruelle, translated)

The synopsis sounds like it's a typical yuri story about two female rivals for a guy who end up with each other. Although judging by superficial Internet search is still josei straight romance somehow.

I get that same feeling/vibe too. Still may check it out and see what it's about.

@Yuno Well, I can think of a few straight rom-coms that focused on the theme of friendship, but their love interests were part of the cast and not meme characters, lmao. However, this does not make the manga worse and since it is already finished, we will most likely get a full adaptation.

I do hope this is a surprise yuri and not just a retread of Betty & Veronica. =w=

@Lumenesca A yuri that begins with two girls rivarling for male is no less cliche than the Betty and Veronica dynamic. Especially considering how much their shipping with each other instead of Archie affected the first one, lmao.
