| I like that Reiko didn't make it to the top, but ultimately she wasn't dejected or broke. She appreciated the effort she had put in even if she didn't ultimately reach her goal. I also like how she explained the three "deaths", although it must be a really small town if those three incidents were enough to start rumors of a "cursed" bike. |

| Love Koguma making Reiko dinner. I laughed so hard when the metal kicked in when Reiko started driving on the trail. Reiko had quite the summer and met most of her goal so that's cool. Then what a sweet thing for Koguma, a sleepover! |
| You know, this cheap and simple anime is better than 95% of anime in general. Yes, Super Cub have a very low budget and this anime is made more like an advertisement for Honda scooters, but there is no typical anime idiocy, no disgusting things, no "typical main characters", no vulgar humor, no loud screams and stupid jokes. Instead, there is calm atmosphere, many landscapes and scenes of nature, realistic characters who dont look like they have escaped from a circus or a mental hospital. Even despite the very bad graphics, boring music and general simplicity and naivety, Super Cub is pleasant to watch and not annoying. This anime is better than almost everything created by huge anime studios with large budgets. Its a shame that there are so few anime like this. |
| For anyone who's wondering why Reiko used a super cub instead of a more suitable motocross bike for her venture up Mt. Fuji... she was, at least in part, taking inspiration from a real life event in Honda's history. On August 4th, 1963, a 22 year old climber and biker by the name of Susumu Nabeta attempted to drive up Mt.Fuji using a Super Cub, where after 12 hours of riding, he managed to reach the summit. A couple weeks later, a team of Honda bike riders took a stab at riding up Mt. Fuji, also succeeding at reaching the summit. Source 1 Source 2 The light novel also acknowledges Reiko's decision to not get a more well suited motorbike for the journey as a conscious choice. With all that in mind, maybe Honda's extensive advertising in this episode isn't for "no real reason" like someone else previously insinuated. As for this episode promoting the "bad myth" of Honda Cubs being indestructible... I won't buy that statement unless someone can verify whether or not Honda Cubs are really that durable. I would agree that Reiko's durability in spite of her lack of protective gear is pretty questionable, though. The light novel source material may not have intended to imply that she crashed out as many times as the anime portrayed. |
