It's incredible how underrated Akane is in the fandom, everyone seems to only love Kana, but I see them both as THE BEST CHARACTERS IN THIS ANIME The writing of both is something moving, Akane with her emotional problems and unusual personality. Kana with her sweet and sometimes snobbish, but cute way. The rivalry between the two causes a fun interaction with ONK and especially with Aqua. For me, they carry the anime. Without them both the plot would be boring or too serious. They both do it in their own way, with different personalities and the same goal: to be better. So what do you think of the two? Which is your favorite? And is Akane underestimated yes or for sure? Personally, I can't decide which of the two I like more. |

I completely disagree with calling Akane underrated. Because god dam she’s all anyone ever talks about. They act like she’s god dam Gojo. If you couldn’t tell I’m a major Kana fan and like her way more than akane. Frankly I dislike akane she has a very unusual personality like you said and i dislike it. |

@Phantom_373 Just look at the fact that there are more favorites here at MAL, Kana currently has 10000 and Akane 3000, that in itself explains a lot(who is really underestimated).I like things like this, unusual, because it's interesting to follow the decisions of people with atypical personalities, you never know their reactions, and I kind of identify with them. But I still like them both equally, just like that, I love them both. |

(Apologies for rambling, I know most people online don’t like long stuff you don’t have to read all this) I understand on MAL kana has like triple the favourites but on any other social media platform akane is all that’s talked about with oshi no ko. I honestly rarely see kana talked about recently I can definitely understand your view on Akane and I do share a somewhat similar view with certain characters. But with Akane what I really dislike with her is how last episode she was happy to kill for Aqua. That may seem contradictory considering I really like Aqua and his goal is to literally kill his father. But in Aqua’s case he’s practically been through hell. His idol becoming pregnant, watching a kid he cared for pass away, literally dying himself, being reborn just to watch his idol/Mother die. I sympathise with Aqua and Ruby deeply. But in Akane’s case she doesn’t have a trauma that should logically lead her to wanting to help aqua kill someone. I understand she had issues half way during s1 which in a way could be a form of trauma. But it shouldn’t lead to her wanting to kill for someone. Which leads me to think Akane’s personality was fundamentally broken from the start. That and I dislike how she practically leeched of Ai’s persona during that arc instead of adopting a personality true to herself |

@Phantom_373 I read everything. Okay, I understand your point. The fact that Akane wants to help Aqua with this just shows how unique she is. Akane is the type of person who would do anything for Aqua, but that's because he already helped her, after Aqua's help, it is notable how much Akane wants to be special to Aqua as a way of saying thank you which ended up becoming a passion. And I like that, she doesn't need a traumatic past to sacrifice herself for Aqua, she just wants to help him as someone who loves him, she wants to save him the same way Aqua helped her,Maybe this is weird, but I admire that about Akane. She is someone who is passionate but also tries to be Aqua's "savior" in her own way. Regarding the popularity of Akane and Kana, on social media in my country, and on other sites, I only always see Kana being a favorite, and Akane is someone they don't talk about much, at least in my country. That's why I think she's underrated, even on sites like MAL and others I only ever see Kana being the favorite. |

I appreciate reading all of that, most people I converse with online just say I’m yapping 😭 Your view has slightly shifted mine a bit, the concept of her wanting to help aqua because he literally saved her from dying makes a lot of sense. So in that regard I can understand her conviction a bit more. (I won’t spoil anything here don’t worry) I’m an anime only and have been spoiled on a lot of things for oshi no ko and something I heard about akane that happens later in the story (maybe this season idk) still makes me question her own conviction towards aqua. And again in terms of the popularity thing. With MAL most of those kana fans were from back when season 1 was airing when she was more in the spotlight. But this season there really throwing akane into the light and in a way making kana seem like the enemy. (Which In a way she is, at least to Akane) So I’m sure if you give it time you’ll see more people start talking about akane and her favourites rise gradually. |

@Phantom_373 Maybe, yes, yes, it is possible that Akane will gradually gain visibility as Kana. I'm a manga reader, and yes I've read what you tried to say, There are actually things from the manga that made me hate Akane, however, after I stopped to think about it, I see her as a complex being in terms of personality, atypical as I said before ,I like this type of character because it's something that makes authors think a lot about the development of this character, and Akane is like a full cup of coffee Sometimes it can overflow because of her decisions, and sometimes she just needs the heat (Aqua) to show her good side. I love it, I like imperfect things, but I also love characters like Kana because she's sweet, sweet and snobbish. They both look like children, and I especially love the interaction between them that can be funny or sometimes dark, but it's always interesting to follow. Anyway, I love, love, love them both equally. And I understand why you don't like Akane, she shouldn't be a character to like, but rather to admire her complexity. |

I think people have no idea how toxic this Kana v Akane rivalry is on social media. And Akane definitely isn't underated she also probably has similar number of fans. I personally like them both (Kana a bit more). So far none of them have done anything "wrong" to hate any of them. Some of these fans ar so fking cancer they are definitely not helping the anime imo. Also Aqua is BY FAR the best character of the show. Yeah without these two show won't be as good but without Aqua there is no Oshi No Ko. And both of them are completely linked with Aqua too. |

People love Kana more because she is intimately written as a real person with realistic problems that you can empathize with. Plus, she's subjectively Aqua's main love interest. While Akane at some point becomes too fiction antihero, if you can call it that. She's also a good character, no question, but not on the same personal level as Kana. |

Akane and Kana are madly in love with each other, they're just too tsundere to admit it and instead rival each other. And while Akane and Kana quarrel, Ruby rejoices (with her Onii-chan) 😏 |

@DragyG You must be summarizing Kana just based on this last episode that came out, but in general taking into account both anime and manga, yes Kana is a sweet and snobbish character depending on the situation. Like when Kana is together with Aqua, Kana sometimes shows genuine sweetness with light reactions and dialogues, or in moments when she is acting, she also puts her feelings and lets her sweet character escape in the acting scenes, but apart from these moments, and especially with Akane, Kana is often snobbish and childish, she is not perfect. In the same way that Akane isn't perfect either. What I like about them is precisely their "imperfection", and the dynamic way they add to the plot. |

@DragyG I'm sorry but in a way I found you a bit sexist lol I don't think Akane can be summed up like that, she is unique in her way of acting, sometimes you hate it, and sometimes you like it. And she's not just "nice", in the manga she changes... Well, I won't give any spoilers, but I guarantee that she's not just a simple "nice girl". |

I'm talking about representation of gender roles in fiction. The housewife doing everything for the sake of her husband is a kind of representation that is quite common in Japanese animes. I mean look at this season from what I watch we got Saki in gimai seikatsu litteraly cooking every day for Yuta. Shuna in Tensura who from the start has never been more than a maid for Rimuru. Rinne in Naze boku no sekai... who is 100% dedicated to Kai and Kai only. She even say herself she hates all living beings except Kai. Akane in Oshi no Ko Mutsumi in Yozakura family being litteraly an housewife Mikari in 2.5 jigen no ririsa who dedicated her whole career to being cute in the eyes of Okumura That's a way (among others) of writing male - female interaction in Japanese media that has a complex cultural background explaining it. @DragyG the dialogues between Kana and Aqua from the first season, review them, when they first met and also while they were acting or talking to each other. The sweet moments I refer to about her are when she smiles, starts talking and leaves that dialogue with Aqua in an interactive, dynamic and relaxed way, because normally when they talk most of the time there is an exchange of jokes between them and everything that conversation goes on naturally well. When Kana is acting she can be expressive, moving, precisely because of her "sweet" side, she transmits her pure and genuine emotions to the characters in the anime. an example of this is the arc of the first season, in which her performance was literally what saved the series, by precisely showing the audience her "sweet performance". I think you understand what I was getting at by saying all this. In this second season she is only acting like this, in a more "snobbish" way because of her jealousy towards Aqua and also because she sees potential in Akane to the point of overshadowing her, that is, jealousy and rivalry, brought her horrible personality to this second season, but you can't summarize her just based on that, in both the anime and the manga she comes across as sweet and snobbish. |

Didn't read the manga so I'm talking about the anime (that's an anime forum anyway so that's not out of place). Her acting was indeed sweet but she was in a sweet and cute role so I don't see what it tells about Kana except that she is a good actress. I will watch her first meeting with Akane again. |

@DragyG Okay, my English is also terrible. In fact, in long conversations like this, I use a translator to write and translate because it's easier, so there may be some mistakes 😄 |

This arc basically cemented Akane's superiority. She is always there for Aqua, she has a genuine reason to love him, she understands him, she can cook and even willing to commit murder with him. She is the one. |

If you couldn’t tell I’m a major Kana fan and like her way more than akane. Frankly I dislike akane she has a very unusual personality like you said and i dislike it. Pls don't compare gojo satoru to a girl who act like someone elses mother to please him and get his attention , well definitely Akane fans gonna turn blind eye on that one though Nah I’m not comparing the characters, I think Gojo is a way better character. I’m just saying how he’s popular and how akane has had a sudden popularity explode and it’s all o see anyone talk about |

I liked Akane from the beginning a bit more than Kana. However as you said, both are great and spicen up a rather cold MC (Aqua) I also like how Aqua says that his relationship with Akane is just buisness. Yet he is willing to go through his personal hell just so she wont lose her petty catfight against Kana. Tbh I hope her and Kana become friends in the end or at least friendlier rivals. I really like the both of them but my loyalty is with Akane, so I'm kinda rooting against Kana this season. |

People can love boring characters as favourites (E.g. Frieren instead of Himmel) on MAL, so I’d take that with a grain of salt. Kana is a more enjoyable character to watch imo because of her attitude and dynamic with Aqua but both are great characters in their own right |

Also Aqua is BY FAR the best character of the show. Yeah without these two show won't be as good but without Aqua there is no Oshi No Ko. And both of them are completely linked with Aqua too. Aqua is the best character, but he’s not a “waifu” so people on MAL don’t care unfortunately. It‘s tough nowadays for a male character to get the attention of the masses like Gojo did. |

"...Kana with her sweet..."
Is that a bait?
She litteraly humiliated Akane in front of the whole cast and so far (I'm anime only) she has always been selfish (She at least shares that with Aqua) That's not sweet or snobbish that's being a shit.
Akane best girl anyway
@DragyG "She literally humiliated akane in front of the whole cast" i am sorry did you forget akane was the one who started the humiliation first by taunting & insulting kana with the genius child actor line and calling her past a disgrace. She picked up a fight she couldnt win lol |

To now I've the feeling Aqua is right because he is not wrong. |

@DragyG So you would rather watch yourself get shot & die instead of being prepared ahead and shooting the other person when you know they might take a chance at you? Lol okay no yea the 2nd option is much more sensible and safe for me personally thank you. |

@DragyG Yea good for you but people who know they are gonna get attacked do carry a safety with them just in case and my point is kana knew akane might take a jab at her and she was right and the result was akane losing the fight she started. Being self prepared isnt necessarily bad just saying. |

@Animillion I personally find Aqua very empty, I don't like vengeful characters, there are rare exceptions, but in the case of Aqua I really don't like him or Ruby, being a reader of the manga, I see them both as "cold" characters who can be capable of anything just for revenge, I won't give any spoilers, but I read the plot that revolves around the two of them in the manga, personally I started to hate them. I only like vengeful characters when they evolve into something better, like, as an example of this there is Thorfinn from Viland Saga, who is my top5 favorite character because he has "changed". |
