Does it even deserve such good animation? I was literally amazed how well 1.ep was animated.

Because Tatsuya Yoshihara is an incredible animator by himself already. Even though the animators for the premiere featured a lot of Actas related staff, Yoshihara's input as director really made it special.

A lot of similar shows flexes their animation in the first episode in order to make a good first impression only to downgrade it later on.
Hope it's not the case here.

As a Danmachi fan, I felt insulted by this episode. Why does the copy has better animation than the original?

The studio is different. That probably makes a difference, right?

Yeah I know that much, the staff working on this is obviously different. It was more why didn't Danmachi get the better studio and staff, but I guess it's the curse of being picked by JC Staff first...

The Grand Duke and Slame fights will be make or break for the series. The animation team really got the pseudo-2d look down but can they handle the big fights?

"Pseudo 2D"? It is 2D, in general.

@Oongbuh Bruh, that's 3d cell shading made to look like 2d animation. It was obvious within the first 5 minutes of the first episode.

@NB_Tenchy Sorry to break it to you but there's no 3D cell shading going on here. It's just really volumetric drawings that trick your brain into thinking they are 3D characters.

because drawing over a rotoscoped model makes it look smoother

@Bandanaa Tell me you weren't paying attention to the character motion, back grounds and shadows without telling me you weren't paying attention to the character motion, back grounds and shadows.

@NB_Tenchy If you go frame-by-frame, you can see the small inconsistencies that come with traditional 2D animation. It's just very polished work from a very talented animator and director - Yoshihara drew a lot of this episode

@Red_Ranger_Wien it's got a better implementation than attack on titan though

It's sunrise, they are just that good, even if some of them went to bones, they still got lots of talent, I'm not really surprised at it being good

What do you mean, season 3 and 4 had great animation and fights and that's more than half the show, and all that while using cgi for only one monster, and even that flawed pretty good with everything else, even if there are better studios like bones and madhouse, they are not that far down the line, if not for taking so many projects they could easily be top 10

@CrunchyCrobat Yeah but usually just on big fights while Wistoria seems like it will be consistently well animated. My main problem with Danmachi S1-3 is the pacing though.

@SimpLife yes, which still doesn't change they recicle characters designs and elements from Danmachi. Kinda like Mashima with Rave, FT and EZ.

NGL I can forgive this frame right here. Because the rest of the show got pretty good animation.

What's wrong with the frame? Will is basically two in this frame.

@NB_Tenchy in the backgrounds sure. But do you really think 3d cell shading was used on the characters?

Cuz Tatsuya Yoshihara is a fucking beast, that's why. This guy is easily one of the best animators around. And there's no 3D cell shading anywhere, everything was hand draw. The only 3D used there was in some parts of the background and in some small effects.

yoshihara is a super animator himself meaning he can draw super fast good drawings

but im not sure later episodes will have the same quality as the first episode since most anime have great first episode animation anyway then later episodes have drop in quality
