I would have to say in terms of execution Asuna x Kurenai would probably be the best ship. We can’t count Minato x Kushina as a ship because they were with each other from the beginning (if that makes sense).
I’m hoping in Boruto we get Boruto x Sarada, but this is a Naruto thread.

I did watch it, that’s where it went 10 to 100. There wasn’t any infatuation with Hinata, no desire, no actual crush, his feelings didn’t start with a like, it went straight to a love. Once Naruto opened his eyes and realized Hinata liked him, Naruto felt the urge to outdo her and confessed the love that he’s definitely had the whole time.

I’m not sure how some new light novels could be able to explain how Naruto forgot all the times Hinata tried to confess her love, and then the one time she actually did confess her love. It wasn’t until Sakura pointed out the she loved him Naruto thought to himself “You know what I love her too”. The only explanation to that is that Naruto is an idiot and was oblivious to Hinata’s feelings for at least 7 years.
Basically what I’m saying is that there isn’t a gap in the story to fill in, the romantic progression simply went from super slow to as fast as possible. The only way to improve it would be to retcon certain events and have Naruto gain a crush on Hinata instead of Sakura after the events that occur in episode 166 of Shippuden, and have Naruto worry about Hinata in particular during some events of the story, Naruto’s thoughts would go to Hinata first, and then others next. In episode 206 where Sakura tells Naruto the she loves him, along with saying that she’s lying because she actually loves sasuke, but he could’ve also said that his heart belongs to someone else, he wouldn’t even need to tell Sakura that he loves Hinata. He wouldn’t need to jump straight to love, and he could’ve started with a like towards Hinata. Subtle things like that would’ve made their relationship progression better, while still keeping nearly the exact same story beats, there would just be a couple extra sprinkles of romance across the story.

There is plenty of written juxtaposition to set the stage for this relationship, you likely just didn’t read them all. Not saying it to take a dig, but it just sounds like you and I aren’t talking about there same thing.

It’s just my opinion that I feel like Naruto should’ve given up his crush on Sakura and gained feelings for Hinata much sooner than he did. He didn’t even need to realize that Hinata loved him yet, he could’ve continued to be oblivious. But who would’ve fall in love with a woman that nearly sacrifices herself to save your life while saying “I love you”? Even if he rules that out as her simply trying to save a friend, I feel like he should’ve gained feelings for her right there and then.

I see your point but my first example and reasoning fills that in still. He’s well known for having poor social conduct and social behavior recognition. It’s a core part of his character. I will lend you the fact that Naruto left more questions unanswered than answered, but him being an idiot is built into his character. He also had no family or friends to help him socialize or teach him what normal feelings and behaviors are.

I completely understand that, I’m not dissing the writer for bad writing, I’m dissing the character that was written (Naruto) for one simple thing, having a crush on Sakura instead of Hinata after she put everything on the line for him. I completely understand him not realizing that Hinata loves him even though it was spelled out to him, being an idiot is apart of his character afterall. I just don’t understand how he can continue to be infatuated with Sakura when a very lovely friend of his just nearly died protecting him. It’s a matter of in that moment Hinata became better than Sakura, so I feel like there should’ve at least been room for both of them in his heart, but Hinata was kicked to the curve. I understand he’s an idiot, he’s just a bigger idiot than I [would like to] accept.
