Is it right to judge a reincarnated person based on their past life?

If he literally is the same person as the previous life and maintains all his memories, and the whole point of the story is for him to try harder in the second life addressing his past issues, why shouldn't it be? This is not a reincarnation where he isn't aware of his previous life, it is supposed to be a conscious effort in self critique to better himself from a blank slate second wind.

The premise is all about the protagonist himself confronting and judging his previous life failures, and so should the audience who is supposed to sympathize with him in those efforts.

So when issues get selectively ignored/handwaved/minimized and rewarded within the narrative, it's only natural people will voice complain about inconsistencies in that structure.

Yet, a lot of fans including me can separate the two since REINCARNATION IS REINCARNATION.

"Mental Age or Rudeus thinking it's somewhat an extension of his first life" doesn't change that fact.

1) applause -> Rudy has grown so much since their past life
2) what? past life shouldn't count when it's a negative opinion, unacceptable
those two are incompatible. Either his past life is shown for him to grow and improve from it (no longer shut-in, etc) or it isn't. It can't be selective

So on this point, I believe you are almost completely in the wrong. Sure; Rudeus is trying to improve himself and of course therefore should be looked on in a more positive light.

However, you cannot forget his past life as he remembers it himself. Therefore, you should also be able to judge his mistakes.

In my opinion, he has changed into what I would describe as a “kind” person, which is different from a “good” person.
