Has Anime Canon Ever Been Better than Manga Canon?

So there's plenty of anime which have deviated from their original source material and created wholly anime-original storylines, which are almost universally considered to be worse than the actual canon. FMA, Tokyo Ghoul, Promised Neverland, and Akame Ga Kill are a few that come to mind.

Is there any exception to this where the anime deviated from the source and actually ended up being better than the original?

Said it before, and I'll say it again. Usagi Drop. It cut the romance out completely, and thank fuck it did, or else it'd be as controversial as the manga. Still don't feel comfortable watching it, since it's still in the manga's timeline, meaning that what happens past the final episode is still the same.

K-On! came to my mind first. I think the anime is better.

A Certain Scientific Accelerator. The anime was above mid, but the manga is quite bad, to be honest.

@Zarutaku How come? Anime adaptation of Elfen Lied is basically more or less accurate manga adaptation, but it also ends abruptly, leaving a lot of questions unanswered. That kind of situation is not even deviating fully from the original story. More like a story feeling half-baked, but ended in a fancy way just to wrap uo the animated series.

It's understandable, because the manga was still ongoing back when the anime was released, but as a fan of Elfen Lied anime, I was shocked how better its source material was after I gave it a try. Character development, lore... Anime is superior only when it comes to things typical for the medium itself.

It'd be unfair to compare everything offered by a comic to an animated adaptation of it. I'm talking here about very good soundtrack and interesting visuals (including the usage of colours). They were great, but because of obvious reasons, the manga couldn't have similar elements, lol. But to each their own, hehe.

In my opinion, Elfen Lied canon from the source material is vastly superior to the anime.

It all depends on a person who is sharing their opinion. I wouldn't go with "common consensus" in this case, because many people usually commenting on such matter are either zealous "manga superiority" type of viewers, or devoted "anime only" who might not be familiar that much with the manga to say which installment of something (anime or manga) is better than the other, if there are two ways to experience it, existing at the same time.

Just pick up whatever canon you enjoy more, with having in mind the prestigious role of the very first story (especially when there is a manga series consisting of many spin-offs).

If you are referring to S1 of Promised Neverland, I could see an argument that would work in favor of the anime. S2 however...no, not even close to the manga. It aint perfect comic story but still better what they did to the show.

I think a fair amount of people prefer the deviations and filler that were done in the original Sailor Moon anime compared to what the manga had.

@Adnash tbh it's long ago so I don't remember much what happened, only that the Anime managed to end at the right time and leaving proper room for interpretation, whereas the manga is too much of a fetish display from the author and he continued with some lame story just to satisfy the "plothole" complainers.

Some people above already said it. Usage drop and Elfen lied.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.
