At the first minute of episode 1, they are fighting a dragon. It seem they have a decent chance of winning againts the dragon if they are not hungry. but they lost and at the last moment mc sister use a somekind of dungeon escaped spell to allow them to escape.

the plot hole is, why not just use that escape spell before fighting the dragon in the first place??? You know your party is exhausted and hungry and they still choose to fight the dragon?!

I know this is supposed to be a comedy show, but still they need a better way to start the plot than this!

The plot hole I wonder is the characters talk about losing their lives to the dungeon before so why are they even in a hurry to save the sister. She will just respawn ?

@Saimatsu_Fan Yeah I know its comedy, But still there should be a better way to start the plot than the way they did in the anime! Maybe after the dragon eat the mc sister, they get blown away by the dragon, and the mc and his friends got blown away to a old teleporation gate that manage to activate to help them escape. something along those lines.

But what they did is just lazy writing!

@RjtheGreat14 there isn’t a teleportation gate , they aren’t in a game world.

There is an in universe reason why.
Slight spoiler, I guess?

But even outside of that, I disagree on it being a plot hole. People make mistakes, the characters in Dungeon Meshi certainly do. The party misjudged how ill-prepared they were to face the red dragon.

making fun of the fact that i consider some anime series you don't like to be 10/10 doesn't refute my point

and no, there's nothing noteworthy about the world of the series, it's just a generic dungeon, the premise itself is cool I'll admit that, but the dungeon itself is nothing special

@Saimatsu_Fan again, have you read the manga? if you have, you would know that it's very much not a generic dungeon and there are hundreds of layers to it (literally and figuratively)

@zanoodle They don't respawn.

@RjtheGreat14 As to your original issue/plothole. The party got cocky and took on a dragon without being prepared. I also feel a teleportation gate would just be some director pulling it out of their butt when there hasn't been one in the entire manga.

like i originally said, people are content with anything that something as " there's a lot of layers to X, so X is actually deep " is an actual argument lol

@Creeture Well I guess that's a good explanation why they did not use teleportation magic immediately. They should just said that in episode 1.

It takes every great series time to build up there world/dungeon systems. Just as they go deeper into the dungeon, we figure out gradually how it works on function. Pls just watch or read it more before you fully judge

@Creeture Well I guess that's a good explanation why they did not use teleportation magic immediately. They should just said that in episode 1.
@RjtheGreat14 I recall the manga framing the whole disaster at the beginning a bit differently as in: They attack the dragon despite their troubles along the way and Laios realizes during the fight that they are more sluggish and slower and they start to get wiped and then it clicks for him why that is and during this recollection they others got wiped and the sis jumps in to save him.
tldr: they didn't think there was a big problem until it was to late to do anything about it.

On why they didn't mention it afterwards: Plenty of potential reasons, author didn't think of it at the time or didn't know how to convey this information to the reader in a believable way that doesn't feel like exposition dumping. There's also some mysteries and things that readers are supposed to pick up on that get revealed after some time. The show isn't the best onion but it does have some layers to it.

1) I'm watching it lol

2) " just as they go deeper, we learn how the dungeon functions "

what makes it any different from Literally a lot of dungeons lol, heck Danmachi did the same thing 7 years ago, it's also an anime where the entire premise is people going deeper into Dungeons, as well as Actual gods, different races and so are also involved

my point is that the world building is fine but it's nothing special if you watch any other fantasy anime that has a focus on dungeons and so

I understand your sentiment for now, it just irked me to see the world building not being appreciate or given time to cook.

Since how they explore the dungeon and explain how it functions though cooking. Alongside that the story has creative reason why the dungeon/creatures functions the way they. Such as the living armor in episode 3. Doing in a semi-realistic manner, similar to an ecosystem. It’s goes into the more realistic world building the fantastical word building. Which both are fun in their own right!

Of course there more about it, but I don’t want to go into spoiler territory

danmachi is also enjoyable for the most part with how they explore those concepts and themes. however Dungeon Meshi handle on different races feel more fleshed out, when it comes to social issues, weaknesses and strengths and designs.
