i gave it an 8 for the directing and animation but they're not wrong for once, that's why the manga is a 6. he's based for giving csm a much higher score but a couple questionable ones in there.

IGN is often clowned on for their game reviews (and sometimes deservedly so). There have been many suspicions of them being "paid off" to give positive scores to some of those video games over the years, so I don't really pay them any mind on that.

When it comes to their anime reviews however, I find that their reviews are harder to manipulate on that since who exactly would they be pleasing? And who would pay them off to review animes positively? It's not like the Japanese give a sh*t on what IGN thinks of any anime.

Their review of JJK S2 in particular is something I'm in agreement with. This season of JJK has been "fight scenes but no substance or depth". I ain't gonna explain why, since it's all in my review already. Also, the fact that they gave AoTY to Vinland Saga S2 is absolutely based and something I wholeheartedly agree with. So yeah, pretty good review for IGN on this one.

I gave it a 6 too.

Every episode did ** pulling of new powers rather than building characters. Animation was all over the place, made more obvious by the beautiful opening.

I'm not really into battle shounen though so guess fights were enough for some.

Episode 21 was about Yuji’s character development.

I'd give it a 7.8 like, actually though. Similar points with that review but the first half was not bad.

I see a lot of people here thinking that the plot is missing/irrelevant in shibuya.
Shibuya incident is very much a setup arc. Not only that, but JJK's plot is hidden behind context clues and words it's caracters say. Most of the story is revealed through symbolism. Gojo and Sukuna being like Modernism and Post-Modernism, the whole of Yuji's character arc can be understood if you understand the weight of Yuji's words when his ideal of dying surrounded by people changes into: "And maybe a hundred years after my death, the meaning behind my actions will become apparent. In the grand scheme of things... I'm probably nothing more than a cog. But I'll keep killing curses for as long as I can. That's my role in all this."
Connect this for example with Gojo's ideals and you get the true story of JJK, the sorcerer society and how it reflects on ours. (If you do not catch the obvious parallel between Yuji's development and how a hopeful person can be crushed by office work then you really have no say about whether a plot is good is not.)
That in my opinion is what makes JJK great, since these kinds of connections can be made with any plot relevant character, for example, how everyone who acts like Sukuna gains and wins, while everyone that acts unlike Sukuna would, loses: Mei Mei acts upon her selfish desire for money and thanks to that escapes Shibuya unharmed while Nanami, hoping to relieve Yuji of too much responsibility says to him: "Itadori.. You've got it from here." creating a burden on Yuji that he recalls as one of his responsibilities even at this point in the manga.
There are obviously many, many more things like this hidden in the JJK narrative.
Yes, finding these details is not something you can do as a causal reader/watcher so I cannot really blame anyone for not getting that. And most JJK fans probably just like it for the cool action, but there is so much more under the surface it's actually crazy.
And if you complain about the general plot as well, you are going to be so dissapointed when you learn people say Monster is good even if it is revealed who the murderer is on ep 4.

They were being generous with a 6/10 imo. It was just nonstop fights and no story progression or character development. The first arc was enjoyable but the rest is a big downgrade compared to season 1, which i really liked.

@Eglav Is it really a good plot though, if you need to write a whole essay to explain why it is good? That's like if somebody tells a joke, nobody laughs and then he goes on to explain for 20 minutes on why the joke is so good.

Should have been 1/10. I have officially lost any trust in MAL community when it comes to recommending anime through the overall score. 8.84 MAL score for this insulting slop is a felony tier deception. Almost reaching the levels of Seven Deadly Sins.
