I'm looking for anime that's based in the medieval period. I love kimonos and sword/ninja style fighting. I also love the early 2000s art style found in basilisk or inuyasha! Anyone got any recommendations? Mainly looking for an anime like basilisk 2005. Thank youu

I have not watched any early 2000s Edo anime, but I have watched anime set earlier in Japanese history.

I don't know what edo period is so instead i'll just name some sword anime or anime that kinda looks like there's a japanese style or medieval war style to it. And some chinese anime because that always looks like there's kimono and stuff

I think Ranking Of Kings probably counts too but I don't know that's got a medieval vibe to it just drawn in a cartoon way

Samurai Champloo and Ninja Scroll although the latter is from early 90s it's very close to what you are looking for.
No, this isn't my signature.

The "Bake Neko"arc of Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales and its successor series, Mononoke.

For a change of pace, there's Oh! Edo Rocket. It's a satire on repression set in 1843-44 during the Tenpou Reforms.

For an excellent historical anime, I recommend https://myanimelist.net/anime/2694/Hidamari_no_Ki. It's by the famous Tezuka Osamu and is based loosely on his the life of his great-grandfather. It begins before Perry's arrival and continues through the end of the Boshin War.

The live-action period piece Yae no Sakura, a "taiga drama" by the NHK, takes place before and after the War and the Meiji Restoration.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one because I didn't watch it. But I did read the manga, and I thought it was a good manga.

Since you quoted the whole post, it's not clear to what you are referring. Hidamari no Ki?

@SeijiSensei
I only quoted the part with Hidamari no Ki. MAL now displays the entire post even when only parts are quoted.

From what I've seen the closest to your request are:

Ninja Scroll
Mononoke might be a little left field but it's still great
Shigurui
Samurai Champloo
Rurouni Kenshin

@Lucifrost The anime is quite good if you've not seen it. I've not seen many anime that cover the period both before and after the Boshin War.

I've noticed other weirdnesses on this site lately. I'll post a comment, and it will tell me it didn't go through, but it did. Seems to have something to do with my blocking scripts via the Ghostery add-on.
