I started GP and took a break after the first arc thinking that it was pretty good.

Big mistake, because the singapore and france arc were so fucking amazing. i really loved both of them alot. and that score, oh man, tops to the end.

but is it uncommon to not love how they ended that final arc?

What they did to edamame was all kinds of fucked up, bringing back all the prior villains as new buddy-buddies didn't feel like it was needed and only served to diminish the comeuppance it felt like they got. it felt like it was building up to edamura getting the last laugh, but all in all i really didnt feel it. i get it was his wacky plan, but like what he did to his father, and the way that they faked the important parts of the boat scene...

i was just left really unsatisfied.

i give the show an 8/10 in the end, brought down a point because that last episode.

i dunno, just me?

My problem with the final arc was they brought back the previous villains and everyone acted as if nothing happened, including the villains. It just felt strange, it kinda removed all the tension and consequences from the previous arcs. Felt like it made everything pointless. The ending arc in itself wasn't horrible to me besides that but the first 3 arcs were head and shoulders above it for sure

The ending wasn’t necessarily bad. Just unsatisfying. But yeah it’s the common opinion

The same thing that annoyed me the most was that the bad guys were just buddied with the main characters and acted like nothing had happened.

I don't remember much because I haven't rewatched this ever since it first released, but I do remember the direction they took Edamura's character in the final arc felt like a gut punch. I could no longer sympathize with him as a protagonist after his reaction to the failed heist was basically just.... staying in the child trafficking ring instead of even attempting to get out of there or something. It felt very spineless to me. Like I said, I don't quite remember what the reason he couldn't just walk out of the business was but I do remember feeling like he wasn't even trying to and just chose to be miserable those few months (weeks?). I'm assuming this is what you mean by "What they did to Edamame was all kinds of fucked up".

I completely agree. Definitely one of my least favorite endings I've ever seen.

Yeah. it just felt a bit out of place, and I didn't like the way edamura ended up going full on into the underworld, selling kids and stuff even if it wasn't actually happening. it was still happening for him. and that was fucked up. he snapped back really quickly, but that also felt unrealistic after everything else.

I kind of noticed it is a trend for modern anime. Start of great, cool dynamics, awesome characters, story. And then... do something stupid. Summertime render kills the main villain for no reason, Oshi no ko kills best character it has, Great pretender buddy buddy with mafia, past victims...

Well the ability to be awesome from start to finish separates a good show, from masterpiece. Great pretender is a good show, unfortunately. 8 is pretty generous

The ending was quite odd but the series was still good and I think it ended well enough to not irritate the crowd out of me.
