In Kimetsu no Yaiba lore, the earrings worn by Tanjiro are the very emblems of the Sun Breathing users. They are symbols, dedicated for those who use, or cultivate, or greatly honor the Sun Breathing. That's why seeing a demon slayer wearing such earrings is a rare sight, due to how the Sun Breathing is basically extinct, and how it's rare to see people cultivating it in any form. Tanjiro is the last male knowing how to perform Hinokami Kagura, so you can say he is both the cultivator of the Sun Breathing's legacy, and a demon slayer trying to use that knowledge on the battlefield. Tanjiro not noticing the earrings is one of many issues in Swordsmith Village arc's writing. It's a shame that it wasn't fixed in the anime, but oh well. Somebody with such watchful eyes should've noticed literally the same earrings worn by a mechanical doll resembling almost exact copy of a guy he saw during his fever dream. I guess we need to assume he just didn't notice it because he didn't, huh. Also you probably don't know what a fever dream is and how well people can remember vivid detail about those kind of dreams (they don't). |

That's true, yeah. For him, it was a traditional dance performed by the heads of his family for ages. However, that dance somehow proved to be used on the battlefield, after combining its moves with Breathing techniques (in Tanjiro's case it was Water Breathing). Adding one to one (all stuff with earrings; the legacy of the mysterious swordsman wearing them; Hinokami Kagura working surprisingly well with Breaths), we can come to a conclusion that Hinokami Kagura might've been a part of the Sun Breathing legacy. Sumiyoshi looked like Tanjiro, so perhaps - as his ancestor - he wanted to honor his savior (Yoriichi) by that dance? Even the naming gives similar vibes. Sun Breathing for the actual battle technique, Dance of the Sun God for the dance trying to imitate it (Sumiyoshi was not a swordsman, so it's completely understandable). If we add to it the fact that Kimetsu no Yaiba has a lot of references to Japanese tradition, folklore and mythology, then it makes the situation even clearer. Check out the popular story about Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, and the concept of ritual dances (Kagura) honoring the gods and ancestral spirits. Is it how it was like? Time will tell. I think the story pretty much gives a lot of hints at this point, but we need to wait for future episodes and see if they will confirm or deny them. At this point, we can only theorize or present our headcanons. They can be a high or low quality ones, possible to happen or not, but they are still just theories about the anime. So yeah, I guess we need to wait for more anime episodes to learn more about the Sun Breathing and Hinokami Kagura, as well as about the relation between these two things (if there was any; and if there actually was, then how was it like). And I apologize if I sounded as if what I wrote earlier was "100% canon facts". I should've placed emphasis on how it was my loose thoughts about what might happen later, based on how Demon Slayer's plot is tied to traditional Japanese elements.
