When watching a subbed series, do you exclusively focus on the bottom of the screen where the subtitles pop up or look back and forth between the center and the bottom?

I bet you've never thought about this. What's your method for watching subs. When the new sentences pop up, do you glance down while focusing on the center to read them or do you keep your eyes on the bottom where the subs are the whole time.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

I just... look at the entire screen for the duration of the runtime. Genuine question: Is that not how most people do it?

Both I guess, but I’m trying to look at the subtitles less recently.

I watch what happens in the episodes until a character starts speaking & then I read what was said & then I continue watching.

I just kinda look at both subconsciously without thinking about it. Unless it's dialogue heavy that's when I begin to pause.

there is no method, you look at both without thinking about the fact you have to look at both

it's not that difficult

Pretty much this. Even when I'm most conscious of it, it's just a quick glance at the bottom every now and again, and processing what it being said while I watch. The only time it's different is when there is a lot of dialogue, quick dialogue, or subtitles that disappear too soon.

I look at the screen itself
Whenever any subtitle pops up I read them instantly (thanks to monogatari series)

I just watch the anime. If a show has a lot of fast dialogue then I might pay more attention to the bottom, or possibly even pause it, but for the most part reading the subs doesn't really take that long.

I just look at entire screen. Most of the time I found it's not very difficult to read and watch simultaneously without changing focus unless it's Monogatari or Tatami Galaxy.

I'm curious how people who solely focus on just the subtitles are actually enjoying these shows, do the people who do this have next level peripheral vision? Through my years of experience I read maniacally fast and know how to properly skim through the subs and still see the action, if y'all can enjoy anime without having to do that I am legitimately salty.

Sometimes the subtitles go by too quickly for me to read them, so I often have to pause or rewind just to finish reading it.

Now, I try to read enough to get the gist of the meaning, while focusing on the rest of the screen.

I look back and forth in-between subtitles at 2-3x speed with my gigachad brain.

Focus on the bottom where the subtitles are when I don't understand something...
otherwise I look at it normally...
In complex anime like raven of the inner palace where there's a lot of dialogs, look look at both subs and screens ...
Like others have mentioned, we do it subconsciously..

I actively watch the whole thing if I do. I have no problem reading the subs while also looking at the screen. Well I hear what they say so I don't really need to read the subs. So I usually guess what the subs are going to display and sometimes I get confused when they change the script. But I'm used to it.

When I watch an anime while multi tasking I pay more attention to the voices than the subs. Unless the dialogue becomes complicated, I have no need to read the subs anymore.

I have a bad case of strabismus so that's not really an issue for me, I look at both at the same time.

I read the entire sub once and focus back on the show. Is that not how most people do it?

I actually kinda don't even really pay attention to the subs too much. As I am learning the language as my college elective requirement (I am a video game dev major), I can pick up on quite a few sentences and phrases on my own wile piecing together a few things. I look at the subtitles more for reference so it's only a very cursory glance if at all, although sometimes it can be a bit distracting as well since I'm also more paying attention to te actual spoken dialogue. My situation is definitely not standard tho since I decided to stick with my studies and most people who do start don't really keep going, and a lot of anime fans don't think actually go and study the language in a serious capacity

I just take a quick glance at the subs for like half a second and have somehow fully read and understand what the characters are saying.
I guess I just read fast.
