What Anime do you think have been 'Forgotten'?

There have been many Anime I have watched which originally during their release or during a certain time period got as much attention it deserved but slowly newer viewers (as years go on) are less likely to watch it. Some of those were expected to because they were never special to begin with.
I want to hear what Anime you think that were forgotten but deserve to be still watched and those who do not.

For me the Anime that is forgotten and deserve to be talked even today is Shakugan no Shana. Even though I haven't watched rest of the 2 seasons. I have attached to many of the characters even though they are very edgy.

I remember when I first got into the Anime fandom in 2015 (even though I was watching Anime a little even before that), I remember people talked about it a lot. If we put 100 Anime that were talked about the most from 2014-2016 this would have been on that list. It suddenly vanish from popularity.

Most of the 80s movies and OVAs, tbh. There's a ton of absolutely awesome anime there, back when the industry had great animators and budgets to burn on pointless naked elf warriors action bullshit (^%

oh boy they do. everyone knows it. the moment a newbie asks for recommendations boku no pico is the first anime recommended to them to this day. it happened with me when i got into anime 2 years back and i still see people doing this to newbies. boku no pico is never gonna be forgotten and neither the trauma that it brings with itself.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

Basically every seasonal anime which weren't doing very good and nothing famous/infamous, when new season comes people just move on and forget those anime in previous season until someone mentioned it again.

I haven't watched it but Haruhi Suzumiya and seiyuu of the MC was insanely popular back in the day yet you can barely find anyone talking about either one nowadays. Inuyasha was also one of the quite popular back in the day now though you would be hard pressed to find anyone that mentions its name when talking about isekai anime. Elfen Lied and Genshiken are some other series that come to mind that has been erased from people's memories, though in Ellfen Lied's case it could be a good thing.
Around 2016 all these Anime apart from Genshiken was as popular as shows like Re;Zero is. All it took was 5 years no one talk about anymore like they still do about Cowboy Bebop or Akira.

For Genshiken it is still popular with 4chan users who watch all types of shows and discuss all types of shows. But by 2015 it's populairty already fell hard as I didn't came to know about it until 2017.

To be fair if you go to any anime season on this website before 2005, scroll past the first two rows of seasonal anime, I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't recognize more than one or two. A lot of seasonal anime that doesn't perform well and gets dropped for a second season often times doesn't last in the collective community's long-term memory.

For example if we go to Spring 1989, most people know about DBZ & Ranma 1/2, but how many people remember Tenkuu Senki Shurato, Idol Densetsu Eriko, or Madou King Granzort? Going to a much more recent year of Summer 2004, everyone knows Elfen Lied but scrolling down at the other premiering anime how many people honestly remember Kurau Phantom Memory, Otogizoushi, or Tsuki wa Higashi ni Hi wa Nishi ni? Probably not too many.

Well Kurau Phantom Memory is barely known by anyone even when it came out. But yes, in fact there are a lot of shows at least past 2000 that was watched by a lot of people but forgotten completely today.

Vampire Knight comes to mind, back in the day, it was everywere and now? You can't even find ten ppl that remembers it.

Oh, look at all the edgy anime fans having a lagh with boku no pico.

It's all fun and games until you remember two things.

One, that those things actually happens in RL.

Two, that they made Pico into both a
fully brainwashed, indoctrinated, compliant puer delicatus.

And by the second movie into a monster, just like what happens in RL with about 80% of catamites.

I know what I'm talking about here, many moons ago, I was a puer delicatus/catamite.

I didn't end up becoming a monster, but back then I did things that I still regret to this day.

I still suffer amongst many things the last remnants of their brainswashing techniques.

To this day, I still see 3 of those POS has a type/kind of a father figure.

From one of them I learned how to drive a car, change a flat tyre, change the oil, how to shave etc.

From another one I learned to go camping, set the tent up, build safe fire pit, fishing, hunting, prepearing the carcass, canoeing etc.

And from the last one, I learned how to make money, the legal way and pay the bare minimum of taxes and were and how to invest said money.
Me every time I hear the word "reparations": 🤣🤣🤣

I think Initial D is quite forgotten. Not only because it's an old anime but it's also a niche anime, not everyone is gonna have the time of their lives just watching cars racing for several episodes.

And I think the animation could be a turn-off for some people as well. It's quite ironic in my case, I love the bad CG of cars in Inital D First stage so much that I hated to watch the hand-drawn cars from Fourth stage and onwards, IDK man the CG cars just look incredibly cool to look at.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

OVAs have died today very quickly. Even though until 2019 there were still a lot of people watching OVA; the next 3 years will show a sharp decline in popularity. Just like the death of OVA 10 years prior.

People will never let go of Boku no Pico; it's ridiculous. Anyway, I think Vampire Knight story was good enough for it to be still remembered even though the season 2 (which I am watching) feels a lot lazy in comparison. It dead after the Manga ended.

Well it is because the CG cars allowed the viewers to witness smooth animation. And a story about cars smooth animation is necessary.

Noein is probably the best time travel anime in existence but people barely remember it. Terra e... is another solid space opera that doesn't get the attention it deserves.

Reason is that Terra e is not the Magnus opus of Yoshiki Tanaka; it was overshadowed by Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

Shugo chara, Sugar sugar rune and Mermaid melody pichi pichi pitch I don't see that much but maybe now and then in spanish language side of fandom. I would also say og Hunter x hunter and Fruits basket adaptations too. Hack//Sign I'd guess too. I used to see those shows pretty frequently in some AMV or forum avatar/signature.
