| The action here was good, but there's one thing I just don't get: why the hell doesn't Kenshin use any of his sword techniques that actually would provide an advantage? Hiten Mitsurugi is so successful due to the speed of its techniques, and I don't see Kenshin taking advantage of that in many of his duels anymore. Even if we want to ignore Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki, there's still Souryusen, Kuzuryusen, etc. Anyway, cliffhanger ending too stronk. Was gonna go watch the new episodes of Tokyo Ghoul and Zankyou no Terror, but it looks like I'm gonna be watching the next episode of Kenshin instead. I gotta see how this plays out. |

| This episode starts with some beautiful scenery, crystal caves, with the knights walking through. The art at this point resembled like Fushigi Yuugi or something like that. Then Kenshin and the crew are at the bottom of the pit. Kenshin poofs a pickaxe from nowhere and Kaoru makes a weird assumption that's like a really bad joke. The art looks a lot better than last time, though Yahiko and Yutaro's fight was pretty cheap looking. The sulfur isn't dangerous, but actually, it is. Sano randomly punches a wall and water appears and everyone is saved from a gaseous death. That's the third one of these scenes in the last two episodes. Back with the knights, there's some Lemuria/ancient aliens nonsense. There's a scene with romance between one of the knights and the ninja leader. I get the sense, from this and the specific art style used in these scenes, that the creators maybe wanted to do something new based around these characters instead of continuing with Kenshin and friends. The Kenshin scenes are poorly strung together escapes compared with the character development here, as bizarre as it is. The scene with the ninja guy thrashing was okay. I like how his nose looks. Then Yutaro scalds his hands to sanitize them. I don't know what he does during the surgery, but apparently, it showed the strength of Western medicine. It looks like it would be anything someone in Japan could have done too, though. Misanagi has bats that communicate actual ideas with her, things that are beyond animal communication. Then the blonde guy gets really racist, which was fine in terms of showing his character and the world at the time, but then he gets attacked by bats. The attack is poorly animated, and then he is all scuffed up afterward. There's some more romance stuff, bad dialogue, and then a somewhat decent fight. Those costumes are pretty strange though. |
