Almost everyone knows what his surname means; Jaeger, meaning "hunter" in German. It was a plot point in the beginning, Eren (humanity) hunting titans for that sweet freedom. But what about his first name, "Eren"?
The name "Eren" originates from Turkish. It comes from the verb "er/ermek", roughly translates to "reaching (a spiritual/mind maturity), becoming a saint/wise person". Then it becomes an adjective verb (I know it sounds stupid but trust me this term exists) with the addition of "-en". The final meaning is "[a person] who reaches/is a saint/is wise".
Now, this might not have been important in the first 4 seasons, but with this one, the name really stands out to those who know. Now me, as a Turkish person, knowing this was kind of a spoiler, because every character has a rather meaningful name. And Eren being the main character, it was really obvious that it wasn't a coincidence and it was given on purpose.

Isayama is a clever man huh

We’re talking about attack on Titan. Literally the name attack on Titan has a meaning (both English and especially the Japanese version). So I wouldn’t be surprised if Eren also has a meaning like that

So Isayama named the main character Saint Hunter.

So interesting! I never knew that! =]
The Irish word for Ireland is ‘Eireann’ which is pronounced ‘Eren’ and seen with variations of the spelling also, so I always found his name quite personal too!
