I don't know this series seems low rated on MAL. My biggest surprise was Stear's dead, he was a very important character so I've never imagine that happening. Neil wanting to marry Candy was hilarious. Albert being the adopting father did actually crossed my mind but it seem unlikely (I though he was a hippie stalker). By not ending the series with Candy marrying Terry made happy, it probably pissed a lot of fans, but well that's life. Candy Candy left me with a lot of memorable moments.

ahhh! i've been watching this series on and off for two years and i'm finally finished. i have to say, i feel pretty emotional. what a great show! i think it's fine it ended without candy getting married because a huge theme was candy's desire for independence.

And so brings the end of Candy Candy, an almost one-sided story, in terms of Candy's treatment that is. Personally, the story was on a decline after the arc where we witness the demise of Anthony. I find it a challenge on its own to empathize with a character who has only been present in the character for a mere twenty episodes or so, especially considering the entire length of this show. Not to mention that even his death was rubbish & superfluous. The animation itself is actually quite decent for its time & fits the story well. Never liked the art-style that was presented in the mecha shows of a similar time, and specifically, the voice acting in those felt quite rubbish & blatant, especially in comparison to this show, where it actually is done decently.

My biggest issue is by far the characters. Not to even begin on those two despicable, antithetical nuisances that are Neil & Eliza. Never before have I witnessed characters more despicable than those two--in fiction that is, real life is a different story. From the very moment they are introduced they continue to insinuate, agitate & persecute Candy. Well, the entire Adley family was pathetic, ignorant & pedant to begin with, but that is to be expected taking into consideration the time this story is set in. Of course, nobody would believe a quote on quote 'mischievous' orphan who practically seemed more innocent than even their own children! Not to be sentimental by any means, but their monotonous, vituperative conduct is simply superfluous and should NOT have gone on for practically one hundred and eleven episodes. They simply don't develop at all mentally and retain their imbecility & foolishness we all know them for since the very first episodes. Not to even begin on how it ends. They simply are not punished AT ALL--nothing, nada. These are two characters I can't help myself but despise to an extent so high I have never before witnessed & the story could have surely helped itself without them. Albeit, their very existence triggers my desire to gouge my eyes out, such people are present in real life, unfortunately, and this show is much darker than one would expect.

Other than that, I can merrily call this a commendable classic of its time. Definitely a must-watch, as long as you are willing to sit through one hundred and fifteen episodes of it. Funnily enough, I watched up to twenty-eight episodes in two days, took a week break, then binged the rest in two days. It was easy to binge, actually. Probably because it moves quite slowly and you aren't bombarded with information.

Sure enough, William Adley and Albert are the same person. He's also the "Prince" that Candy met on Pony's Hill when she was young.

Everyone is gathered outside Pony's Home for a feast, enjoying life, and also remembering who is no longer with us. Candy has found her purpose in life, and thankfully, she doesn't have to marry Neil, lol.

I was kinda hoping that we'd see Franny again, but she's still on the battlefield. Hopefully, she'll return someday.

This was among the greatest anime I've ever seen. It's definitely a masterpiece, like many others have told me. It's also the first time in my adult life that I've watched an anime with more than 100 episodes. I'll have great memories of this anime for the rest of my life. :)

I'm so happy I finished Candy after a couple of years watching it. I'm sad that Stear left us too 😭😭.

The fact that Albert is Grandfather William was such a plot twist! And also the prince of the hill, omg, the series needed to end with that information for sure! I love Albert and I'm glad Candy now can finally live happy knowing this. She got through so much alone.

Neil wanting to marry Candy was something that needed to be done, of course he had to realize at some point what a great person Candy is. But I'm so relieved this didn't happen, he totally doesn't deserve her. Neither Eliza in her family, please no, they were the worst throughout the series, worst villains ever. And by worse I don't mean great, there was nothing that we could like about them omg.

I'm gonna miss Candy a lot. It sure gave me a lot of happy memories and memorable characters ❤❤❤.
