| SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 Like the guy above me said Subaru can't use magic independently because his gate is broken Leaving the only way for him to use magic is through Beatrice's gate, and as far as I know, she is teaching him a little bit of shadow magic now,at the end of season 2, she thought him minya , so he didn't have a teacher up until now, but he does now, that's atleast what I think, from what I've seen, I haven't read the wn or the ln, so that could change things... |
| He did learn some low level magic in the first season, but somewhere along the road (some others here explained this so) he lost his ability of magic output, and therefore he could no longer let out his Mana. Basically he has magic potential but he cannot use it anymore since his gate is broken. I dunno I read one chapter of the LN after season 2 and this is what I could make out. He needs Beatrice to suck out (no no no don't get weird ideas!) the mana piling up inside him because otherwise it could burst out, killing him. Yeah he is able to use magic through Beatrice's gate like someone here pointed out which is shown at the end of season 2 (spoiler) |

Its also because nobody would teach him. Im pretty sure roswal only dabbled in the four elemental affinities, beatrice doesnt like yin so she wont teach him, his gate broke before julius wouldve ever even got the chnace to teach him and i dont think puck likes it either or he just might not want to teach him it or something like that. So lack of teacher and gate overuse. |

If u know what i mean😜 He has pulled out something untill now and he will in the coming seasons Besides he doesn't need any magic when he has his his frnds.... True, I would prefer usage of authorities(an extra hand) for Subaru rather than magic when we already have Roswaal and Emilia for magic shows. |
