I'm coming up on an episode where one of my favorite characters is about to get hurt, they don't die, but they're comatose for the next 30 episodes or so. I really like this character, they're special to me. I know what's gonna happen, but i'm still a little apprehensive about watching it. I haven't seen this specific episode since i was little (6 years old, 24 now) and i remember it really scaring me as a child, it made me cry. So i've generally avoided watching it when i'd rewatch the show.

Any advice on easing the blow? I'm not too keen on skipping it, i want to finish it and get it out of the way, but i can't help but think it'll make me cry again.

The show is Yu-Gi-Oh!, the episode is the Mai Vs. Marik one.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

Remind yourself that she will come back in future episodes and be alright (assuming that's the case, I haven't watched yugioh lol).

Just let the tears flow, maybe it won’t be as bad as when you were a kid and at least you know they will be okay? in the future. Good luck..

If you're too emotionally attached with this particular carecter then wouldn't it be better to see him/her getting a nice send-off? I mean even if you cry just be happy that you get to experience a carecter journey that touched your heart.

I'm failing to understand what the problem is? You already know that she doesn't die and that she gets out of her coma, so what exactly is there to be traumatized by? Either skip the episodes or watch them, it doesn't really matter especially since Mai's absence barely affects the plot in the long run.

It's hard to explain. Even though i know it all works out for her, it's hard to watch because it is really brutal with how it treats her. She's emotionally tormented for 3 episodes. Even if you know it all works out fine, it can be upsetting to see your favorite have to endure something like that. Have you ever seen The Good Doctor? There's a plot point where a main character gets terminal cancer in the first season, in the latest season he's still alive so you know he beats the cancer, but in between then, it can still be hard to watch him suffer through treatment.

That can be hard to watch for me because i'm still a huge Mai fan, she's genuinely one of my favorite characters and a special character for me. That and the fact i haven't watched this specific episode since it first aired in 2004. It feels weird without her being there. Even if she's not important to the main plot, she's still a favorite of mine. And her being comatose is a pretty big plot point for Joey/Jonouchi's character arc this season.

I could skip it, but i really don't want too since this is my first time doing a complete rewatch of the show from beginning to end. I want to watch all 224 episodes so i can truly count it as complete. I've never made it past this point before. I've mostly just rewatched random episodes out of order before this.

I do want to rewatch it, i just wanted to know how to soften the blow.
