when you look at what people don't like about this anime, Shouta and Lucoa's dynamic will be the first thing that will usually come up. After that, it's pretty flimsy like the art style and Saikawa's one gag.

Honestly, the fact Lucoa is implied to be willing to go in peace (albeit hurt) if Shouta really hates her and is pretty grossed out by Fafnir's fanfic of her raping him makes it a pretty wholesome relationship in my eyes.

But one thing I fail to ever see people mention is how inherently creepy Fafnir's relationship with Takiya is by comparison. While he is seen to at least do housework (which people say is "wholesome") and has no real reason to be there since he's 1. immortal 2. has a treasure cove if anyone mentions his finances in the human realm, he's basically taken up forced residence in some nice guy's house, spends all his time playing video games day and night, pushes him around verbally, and often can't be really be reasoned with properly in a house that isn't even his.

The segment this season where Takiya's parents are coming over and Fafnir angrily refuses to budge really does highlight that Takiya does exercise genuine caution with a roommate in his own home in fear of him to a degree. While they do resolve the issue at the moment in a pretty lighthearted way, it does cast a dark light on their dynamic.

A normal person would not fold like that. They should be stern since that person is essentially a guest in his own damn house, and throw them out if needed with that kind of aggression. But Takiya has no power over someone he knows is pretty murderous and dangerously temperamental.

Is the relationship completely healthy? No
Is any relationship in this show completely healthy? No
Is any relationship AT ALL completely healthy? No

They are both semi-shut-in otaku who long for some kind of friendship (despite what fafnir says)

There was a time in my life where I would have invited fafnir into my house in a heartbeat just to feel that kind of connection.

I believe each relationship in this show does exactly that. It gives each character the chance to find some kind of happiness with people willing to look past their problems.

To answer your question more directly, I think since there aren't as many obvious sexual undertones (though they are slightly there), people won't freak out nearly as much.

is there something toxic about Kobayashi and Tohru's relationship? They admit to arguing and being hurt sometimes, but that's completely normal. Everything else is pretty amiable.

I think they are fine, though a more nitpicky person could argue that tohru is being too agressive with her sexual advances despite kobayashi explicitly stating that she isn't ready for something like that. Let alone trying to trick her into eating parts of tohru's body.

lol this must be a joke thread (for my sanity).

they're friends and have a really wholesome dynamic (just as you mentioned people saying), at least for the other complaints about kobayashi's you can understand that some people (or children) take things too literally and fail to properly differentiate between reality and fiction, but this thread is just trying way too forcefully to construe this pretty sweet and cool relationship as bad.

i almost sense that you were high when you wrote this.

the tail gag, I agree is gross. It's like someone fingering your food without your consent at best.

But besides that, Tohru never struck me as particularly sexually aggressive in a way that's creepy like with Lucoa. She's presented reasonable enough to take criticism and "no" in stride often.

I totally agree with you. I was playing devils advocate to show the other side of the argument.
I find her endearing, if a bit too energetic. Who wouldn't want a mighty chaos dragon defending your honor?

Fafnir is a tsundere, imo. He says he doesn't care about anyone, yet he still participates in the majority of activities with other cast members and goes along with their antics. I don't think he is a bad guy deep inside and he cares about his roommate like a friend, yet doesn't express it.

Really? I see Takiya as someone sad and that Fafnir was a rescue for him and he is happy about it. The many times he calls Kobayashi for a drink is a way for him not to be alone, that's my point of view.

i don't think his angry gamer-addicted mind would get out in peace if he just told him to get out, which is in contrast to lucoa and tohru (im pretty sure at the price of being heartbroken Kobayashi could convince her to move out). This is a guy that got (lol) multi-account banned online for presumed toxicity and tried to go kill the devs.

I thought that was why Takiya phoned both ladies on how to deal with him because he was too scared to even consider telling him to improve his behavior or leave.

Ah don't be so jealous about their relationship. Fafnir is hardly trust anyone. After he met Takeya ,he could trust him as his friend and doesn't really want to leave the house since he already see Takeya's house as his own nest lol. Having develop the same hobby and stay together, how cute that is. Relationship goals for bros.

how is it wholesome to shove a boys face under your shirt and in between your actual boobs? That's sexual assault, whether the kid hates you or not... lol. This is what coombrain does to people.

Fafnir and Takiya's relationship is honestly the second best relationship in the entire series behind obviously Kobayashi's relationship with Tohru. The two share a LOT in common, and their relationship and mutual understanding of each other was built-up and developed at great length in the first season (especially episode 6). In light of this mutual understanding, I find it pretty hard to take your argument regarding a power imbalance between the two particularly seriously.

to be specific, maybe the initial post of it being "disturbing" was overblown, but this perception is based on negative experiences with a roommate before, but not a house, just a shared complex. If a roommate is showing belligerence like Fafnir did with not moving out of his gaming chair, I get upset at the idea of exercising restraint as Takiya did. I don't know if that's what normal people would do, because I got into an actual fight/argument over someone not sharing space or doing shit before. I'm sure a lot of people out there can relate to this kind of situation.

Tbh I don't care but that's one of the reason why I found this show just average. There're some part of this show that really good and also some part of this show that disturbing. But well it's just a sol comedy
