For the record, this doesn't refer to a show that is solely about romance.
This refers to a show that ostensibly has more going on in its story, but falls prey to a romantic subplot taking all the attention away from the wider world for the sake of the ship.
The first season of SAO is a common example of this because of how it was adapted, but I'm curious if you can think of any more that fit here.

Gakuen Babysitters. It kinda ruined the mood in my opinion.

I felt this way about Waiting in the Summer. A teenage cast does not mean that EVERYBODY needs a romantic interest.

Hanamaru Youchien (Hanamaru Kindergarten) was like this for me. It would have otherwise been an enjoyable show but they made it all about child romance that felt really creepy to me in the way they handled it.

Agreed for sure.

to forge a path into the marrow of the spirit.
They chose to drown in a deeper vacancy,
an emptiness that quells the null,
a pool for the forgotten..."

yea i agree, probably SAO from what i’ve watched of it. i know loads of ppl are gna say SNK aswell, but i rlly don’t think the romance ruined anything, in fact i loved it and think it made it better. i can’t rlly think of any others tho

Assassins Pride
Even tho there's no Romance tag on it, it actually has some sort of romance-ish vibes in it. Here's the thing, the premise of this anime is actually somewhat interesting; an assassin is sent to kill a powerless girl from a noble family. Instead of focusing itself on that premise, the show is destroying itself by focusing too much to the development of the 2 main characters. Did i said "development"? wait, there's not even a development here lmao. Also, did i mention the heroine is a literally a loli?

Highschool of the Dead
Yes, I know, instead of romance, it's an ecchi show. But I wonder, will it be a great show if it didn't focusing itself on it's ecchi side?

agree on this.

I would also say Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan.

Probably AnoHana... that show has way too many problems to mention, but the love-triangle-weird-bullshit-whatever is an easy issue to spot.

Attack on Titan by far became the worst in this category for me.
