I read the manga until met all main characters and what is the story about, but it was almost 20 years ago, when i also watched half of the original season, i guess.

Now this final (is it the end?) season is so top rated, im so curious to check already what is happening, but i dont want to watch the previous series.

Is it really necessary?

yes it is necessary because otherwise you'll miss the build up and have no idea what is going on

I don’t see why people always skip series until the final season and only watch the one and then they complain about not knowing a damn thing. But start with season 1, it’s a great series that shouldn’t be skipped over.

Season 1 and 2 are masterpieces too, so don’t rush to the final season as you will see 9-10/10 material from the very start.

Also this is a drama not an episodic series, there are fairly many episodes in the first two seasons that must not be skipped to understand and enjoy the final season.

Yeah as stated above me, you should watch the whole thing. The final season is so packed full of info and storylines that you won't get into or understand as well if you jump into the deep end (namely the final season here) without knowing how to swim (watching all the previous seasons).

I’d say it’s worth it to watch from the beginning. There are some details that are revealed in season 1 that make no sense if you skip it. I understand it’s a long watch (2 seasons, ~24 episodes each and 10 rn in S3), but, like the last guy said, it’s not a race. Take the time to enjoy it fully, even if you read it a long time ago.

There's some filler episodes that don't add anything to the maIn ploT, so it's not necessary all of them I think

i don't think that's possible.. fruit basket is heavily plot based. it revolves around the characters backstory. every episode is kinda like a main story, from some game, that needs to be watched in order to understand or to proceed to the story itself. also try this kind of thing in slife of life shows e.g, gintama or nichijou you dont need to pressure yourself watching
,its pure wholesomeness and comedy.

Yes because most of the "important" stuff start at mid ss2
No cuz if you skip then you will miss a lot of character introduction and sometime wonder why that person did that

You have to watch all of it, just like with any other anime or TV show or movie series (or even with reading books or manga.) You can't appreciate something if you don't understand it, and you can't understand it if you don't know the things that you need to know. What's the rush? If you're interested in the show then why wouldn't you watch it from the beginning? It doesn't make much sense to me personally.

There is a huge difference between the 2001 release and the 2019 reboot than just a more accurate storyline they aren’t even comparable.

As others have pointed out you will miss out hugely on character development and plot information, the final season will only be 13 episodes building on the 50 already released. Skipping to the end because it’s highly rated would be a waste.

Thanks!

As i said, i know what Furuba is about, and even being an young teen that time, i droped the original series for the same taste that i keep till today: im not muuch into these Reverse Harem bishonen, unless for some isekai.

Now i got that the drama kicks on in the middle of second season. That is why the score was around 8.8 and sundenly it is skyrocketing to 9.

Thanks for all you guys too, because for someone that dont know nothing about FB, of course they have to be introduced by first season.

I’d stick to watching them all. I read all of the manga like 5 times since I was so confused. A lot is cut, but reading it would help. But yeah, watch it all.

If you're going to get into the series, you might as well start from the beginning.

There are alot of things set up to be explained later in the first two seasons, I highly recommend not skipping either. Just like any show, you'll enjoy it more if you watch it all the way through from the beginning.

Fruba is not reverse harem though. Tohru has eyes for 1 man only and he for her.

Season 3 is the climax of the show and that's why it's so highly rated. It ties up ALL loose ends and explains why the characters acted the way they did in the previous two seasons. If you don't want to watch all the episodes that have been released (60 as of today) at least start watching from the middle if not the begging of season 2. Season 1 is basically an introduction to the characters, season two builds up the story and in season 3 we got everything we wanted, hence the high rating.

I recently did a rewatch of seasons 1 and 2 and I realized that there was foreshadowing for A LOT of things.

In my opinion you should at least watch episodes 5, 7 because it's beautiful, 12 and 23 to 25. Episode 5 is not much different from the 2001 version, but it's the one that cements Tohru's relationship with Kyo and Yuki.

Please, PLEASE take the time to watch season 1!! Every zodiac member (minus Kureno & I think Isuzu) are introduced, not to mention Kyo and Tohru have a very impactful moment here. It’s the season where we start to get a glimpse at everyone’s personalities, which will further reveal themselves in the future seasons.

I highly highly recommend watching all of season 1 first as that sets the emotional bonds and stories for each character. It won’t be as good if you jump ahead.

you most likely won't enjoy it because it requires all that background and investment in the characters.

not trying to gatekeep it's just all character centered drama so without the background knowledge it won't make sense and wont have any impact

the 1st season introduced all the character and a little of their background, you can't skip that just take the time to watch the 2 seasons before the 3rd

Do us all a favor and don't watch if you aren't truly interested

Imagine if you skipped clannad and 10 ep of clannad after story, went directly to ep 11, do you think it would have the same impact?
Same answer for fruit basket.
I mean it wont take you long, 4 ep a day (a little more then 1 hour) and you will catch up in around 2 weeks

I watched Clannad and that is a strong argument right there haha

But 1st season of Clannad was slooooow and some moments booooring as hell.

By coincidence i've watch Clannad exacly because i was so curious about After Story being so well rated and people saying that can made you cry etc (they are right). I finished Clannad season 1 like "Finally! Now lets see what this series is about" lol

Ok, ill start Furuba by the end of this new season 1, since i've watch part of original season 1. Thanks, hope this last season is really good and i dont regret it.

Inb4 "I just saw the Fruits Basket Season 3. It is so overrated and you can't understand anything" post from OP.

Just watch the first season. I highly doubt you have crystal clear memories from a manga you read 20 years ago.

"Watch the final season of AOT because of amazing fight scenes..."
There's a reason it called, "The Final" so watch it from the beginning. You'll don't understand the ending if you don't watch the beginning. Hate this kind of people because of the score, they will watch the end first.
