is it really worth watching the 1000 episodes this anime has to offer?

I just finished watching 7 episodes of One Piece and so far I really feel the show to be boring and childish, the animations are bad, the background music is bad, the villains are shallow and boring. I'm confused why people like it so much. I have only watched 7 episodes and I already feel like I can't watch anymore, how am I supposed to get through 1000 episodes of this? I'm sure this is not the greatest anime of all time people make it out to be. is it really worth watching the 1000 episodes this anime has to offer?

I did think some of the beginning arcs where kind of boring. But I started to really like it when i got to the arlong park arc. But it's completely up to you. If you don't like it then you don't have to force yourself to watch it |

You are not retarded to think that it is bad and you can drop it if you want to. But continuing till arlong park and then deciding on whether or not to drop is recommended. Also note that one piece is not known for good fight animation but for great character interaction/development and world building. And The visuals are better than ever in the current arc (wano).

Does it matter that it is childish? Because One Piece is indeed childish, but it doesn't stop it from being great. By the way, yes it gets more serious later on. But the overall feel and atmosphere remain the same. To answer your question, yes it's worth it watching 1000 episodes of One Piece. I understand being sceptical while watching the introductory arcs. When they get to the grandline is where One Piece shows its true potential.

Ive watched plenty of animes, and One Piece I was glad I watched it rather than not watching it, Im 295 episodes in and Im already in a emotional roller coaster, every backstory made me cry I watch it when I eat, the other day I was crying while eating and my family was concerned and I just told them its because black hair woman yelled. Im not even close to finishing One Piece and its probably my 2nd Favorite anime. And ofcourse the first few episodes will look bad; its from 1999 no shit it'll look bad, but the childish part about it I find it charming and its not even THAT childish compared to Pokemon.

There’s a lot of one piece that has really rough animation and pacing. If you’re really interested in experiencing the story, I’d suggest reading the manga. It’s not nearly as much of a time-sink.

Yes the beginning arcs are pretty shitty. What I did was watch till ep 30 and get to the Arlong arc before I called it quits, and I loved it. So pretty much if you get to around there or around the alabasta arc (around ep100 I think) and still don’t like it then it’s not for you

If you're not in the mind set of "I want to see what makes one piece so loved" then just don't watch it cause if u ready to give up after 7 episodes you weren't willing to commit. No one thought one piece was a masterpiece at that point. If u want to watch it give it a better shot than that. If u don't then just don't watch it. |

Honestly just read the manga. It's way better. The pacing of the anime is the shittiest. I don't know how I had the patience to watch all the episodes. I watch the recent episodes in 4x speed. The story is one of the best and it's portrayed way better in the manga. But the story in the beginning might seem boring and shallow cuz it was made a long time ago but it was pretty new at that time. It adapted with the time and the arcs kept getting better. The recent arc is one of the best already. So unless you have an another worldly level of patience, read the manga. Some fight scenes in the anime are done spectacularly though. I think you should definitely try reading one piece and you will most probably not regret it.

Everyone has times when they've come up against a wall and feel like giving up on everything and running away. But you mustn't forget that during these times when the going is rough, the soul inside of you will try to create something to break through that wall. And don't forget that in your suffering there is something very precious. We're all suffering in agony with our troublesome lives. Sometimes it comes to tears. When that happens, let it flow as much as it wants. If it still doesn't stop flowing, then we'll come and mop it up. - Gintoki

I don't know if it'll be enough to convince you but OP is one of the first ever action fantasy shounen to explore many amazing themes such as: 1. Friendship (first ever to portray friendship in a realistic manner without power up bullshit) 2. Dreams (which isn't confined to 1/2 people) 3. Human Trafficking 4. Drug Experimentation 5. Slavery 6. Corruption 7. Racism 8. Value of food 9. Sacrifice 10. Self respect 11. Value of Doctors (they literally needed Doctors here without that lazy writing of healing power/jutsu) Reasons to like One Piece: It has better "Adventure" than any other adventure anime. It's world building, nonlinear power scaling and political/historical mystery is best. Every new arc has new island, new characters and new background story. It's not limited to a village or guild. Among the long running shounen anime it has 2nd best comedy (2nd to Gintama), It's characters and impact of each character are great. By showing background from their past and blending it with present it becomes even more great. Among the long running shounen it has less fillers (about 10%) which are still somewhat connected. It portrayed aforementioned amazing themes. Last but not the least it's storytelling style is unique and best among shounen. Oda the author represents even the smallest details in a twisted and charming manner which will surprise you and remain in your memories for a long time. Master of foreshadowing. The flaws OP had: 1. Luffy vs Crocodile 1st encounter was a big plot armour 2. Going Marry go brrr 3. Pacing 4. Initial animation which improved over time 5. Not explaining the powers of non devil fruit users These are minimal considering the overall narrative aspect. It's not the best but definitely among the best. Those people who can't grasp anything over that old animation and so called artstyle, I just pity them. Love it or not but very few people HATE it after finishing Marineford arc (489th episode) and getting explanation of the power system (haki) of One Piece in 516th episode which explained a lot of things that initially looked like plot armour. You'll need patience. Watch it by one arc then watch other anime in between arcs as break whenever you feel boring. I recommend you to watch it till 516th episode. If you don't have patience then don't watch. But I would prefer One Piece over thousands of short anime which are full of fanservice and shitty story. Not necessary that you've to do the same. However if you watch it till then and still dislike OP. Then don't waste a single minute on it after that. Drop it without hesitation. Disliking it after that means OP was never meant for you.

7 episodes means you don't know anything about One Piece. The beginning is lighthearted and such, but it does get more serious later on. One Piece is one of the more wacky, quirky and out there battle shounens, but childish it is not. Arlong Park is usually the bare minimum that people suggest to newcomers. I'd say to make up your mind after that arc. Not sure what your comparison or standards are based on, but I think your mindset towards the series seems quite skewed. Perhaps you should drop it now and just stick to modern shounen.

Members who dropped One Piece, 57.7% among them didn't even watch more than 100episodes. It has it's flaw with the pacing. That's the reason people consider the manga of the show in high regards. However dropping a show without even watching 20% of the whole show and downrating it is not wise imo. Go to this 👇 link for detail stats. https://myanimelist.net/featured/2336 It's still above than other ones of big 3 or shounen Godfather DB series or many other modern shounen which it deserves.

The beginning arcs are mostly set up. It’s mostly just about forming the core of the crew, and Luffy making a name for himself before entering the Grand Line, where all the real juicy stuff starts to go down. Personally I love One Piece but it’s not for everyone. I’d say give it to at least the Arlong Park Arc, which starts at episode 31 and ends at 44.
