It’s got to be Brook. Living alone with the corpses of your loved ones for 50 years.
“It is my perception that a true friend never relies on another's dream. A person with the potential to be my true friend must be able to find his reason for life without my help. And, he would have to put his heart and soul into protecting his dream. He would never hesitate to fight for his dream, even against me.”

Robin closely followed by Brook or Sanji, Luffy can't be left out as well...... When I think about it, all of them have had pretty rough backstories.

I think Ronin has the saddest backstory. Because her loved ones killed in front of eye while she was a child.running form every one her whole life every one betrayed her.

After reading the thread it's obviously robin or brook, but before reading I was gonna say zoro, because his is the only one I think about pretty regularly. Like humans really do be fragile.

i think it'd be either brook or robin, but idk who to pick since 50 years alone after watching all ur friends die is bad but being on the run and hated by everyone for 20 years is pretty bad too.

For me it's nami.

Nami had to work for the one's that killed her mom. That's fucked up.

Among the straw hats it's gotta be Nami, but if we also consider others then Law's backstory is the saddest.

I just finished Enies Lobby but despite that, I don't really know anything that could compare. Little Robin was just too wholesome and her story was tragic :(

For me on a personal level it has to be Sanji because I understood his struggles and shit. I had a similar situation with my father and my brother and I had to become tougher, but if it's based purely on the material and not my life then it's Chopper. Chopper is too cute to go through that. I definitely find the destruction of an entire island to be brutal and upsetting, but I think the anime gave us a better connection with Hiriluk and his story. This is what makes Chopper so sad. Realistically, I think people feel more upset when someone they know personally dies than when they hear about a genocide.

They're all quite sad though in their own way. Sure Luffy's backstory seems to have minor reprocutions but to Luffy it meant the world that Shanks sacrificed his arm to save him.

It's gotta be "Going Merry"

But for real, pretty much everyone had a really sad backstory.

For me it’s either Brook or Robin.
Robin’s is like the worst. Like everything that happened in her backstory makes me want to cry and kill the World Government.
But Brook really had to endure 50 years of loneliness, living after his whole crew was killed, with only the hope of someday meeting Laboon again.

But also Nami, Sanji, Luffy and Chopper had a really sad backstory, too.
Nami, watching Bellmere being killed in front of her and then basically being a slave for her mom’s killer.
Sanji, with his horrible family, being imprisoned and the again with Zeff and suffering from hunger.
Luffy and everything with Ace and Sabo, the Grey Terminal and Bluejam.
Chopper, being ostracized by his race and humans alike, then everything that happened with dr. Hiriluk and Wapol.
