AnimeLeviathan said:The most common thing I hear in regards to Aot season 1 is: "They relied too much on shock value" sure, a lot of the deaths were probably just for shock value, but not the ones most think of when they say this. Lets look at Levi squad's death for example. That wasn't for shock value, because if they didn't die Eren would've never gotten his hardening ability. Lets take a look at season 3 when Eren had a choice to trust the rest of the scouts. Or trust his gut, there was a flashback back to Levi squad. So instead he trusts his gut I think eats/drinks one of the serums and gets hardening.
Remember back in season 1 when people who were on Eren's team starting dying by titans when the titans were invading? If you do. Then that wasn't shock value either, If they would've survived Eren would've kept most of his confidence which is important for Eren's development. Now that one is still debatable if its shock value or not so I'll just leave it at that. If you have any other deaths that are shock value let me know.
The use of foreshadowing for Aot is amazing. It foreshadows betrayals that you wouldn't even notice the foreshadowing until you see the backstory. Back in season 1 Reiner said this to annie. "Maybe we should teach her to act more like a soldier" From Reiner's backstory, Reiner was the person to decide that they should continue the mission. So ofcourse he would want her to act like a soldier.
Reiner also said to Annie "Before you get any shorter you should remember what happened on our first day here." She seemed really upset. Possibly angry about one of the things that happened in they're backstory.
There is probably way more uses that im either missing or is from the manga.
On an AOT season 4 review I saw someone talking about 2 survey corps members. Levi and Mikasa. Asking why they are stronger than everyone else For no reason? He also said that Levi can't just be stronger than everyone else because he grew up in the underground because that makes no sense. Technically, hes right, but that isn't the reason. Levi and Mikasa are stronger than everyone else because they have a special power from they're clan. The Ackerman ability. Its an ability that I don't know much because I don't read the damn manga.
I hope a manga reader can clarify if its gonna be in depth this season or not.
The characters in AOT are criminally underrated.
I mean lets take a look at "whiny Eren" real quick. I watched a video recently(I'll link it to you at the end) it was titled "The genius of Eren Jeager" I thought this was regarding the season 4 manga, but no, it wasn't. I took it as a joke at first. It wasn't. Eren got supreme character development, and since it is gonna take longer to explain than any other character. I'll just link the video:

Reiner is an amazingly realistic character. He feels like a bad ending Shounen MC. Usually a MC gets his treatment and then ends up winning in the end. Not Reiner, only thing he won was PTSD.
As for Zeke. Anyone who has been through your parents pushing they're thoughts into your head can relate to him somewhat.
People were complaining about Eren whining to save Armin instead of Erwin. I actually think thats really realistic. I mean I think most people would save a friend they knew their entire life over someone they barely know. Yes, its selfish of Eren to think that way, but its incredibly realistic.
The attention to detail AOT has is a lot, they almost explain everything down to how horses get over the wall. A question most people never had. Lets take a look at this attention to detail.
The scouts were originally created for the smart people who wanted to see outside the walls. It was created to be a suicide squad. It fits perfectly, the millitary police is for stronger people. Most people would join the millitary police. Therefore the people who joined the scouts would never reach their goal. The plan didn't work though, as the MP's became corrupt and the Scouts were actually really strong.
Back in season 1 Eren kept failing the ODM gear balance training. So you'd expect him to get it done as a "cliche shounen" but no he keeps failing. Turns out his gear was broken so he got a new and succeeded. Could've just left it at that, but no. It turns out the ODM gear was rigged on purpose because the the drill instructor, Keith Shadis, didn't want him joining. If you want to know why, go watch season 3. Or just search up that season 3 scene of how grisha came to Paridis.
The use of Shounen cliches to look not like a shonen is amazing. Of course Eren has a special power, but wait the power isn't special at all. Every Eldian can obtain it.
I think that should be enough to explain why I love the show so much. If you have questions about the show I'll answer them.
Isayama has written AOT greatly since S1 part but its just that even if the anime adaptation was God tier, the things he stressed upon and the things he gave weight to were kinda lost in the adaptation as something in the background happening....... that gave a lot of people the wrong idea about AOT's themes and i came off as an ordinary shounen plot a little, and also people give little credit to the annie arc as it literally makes you question many of your theories about titans and what the end goal of the series could be
