I don't think the intent of the show is really to catch people (entrapment laws muddy up prosecution if the predators have good lawyers).

But I think the main point of the show is to A) Show predators that the kid their chatting too online may be a police officer, and B) to show kids the kind of creeps that are out there. And of course C) to be hilarious

I love the show.Sexual predators should be wondering the person they are trying to meet for sex is really a 10 year old or a anti-pedophile or a cop. I watched one show and they caught this one guy twice.They first caught him at the house and then one of the people said hey this guy is back online and they caught him at McDonalds.

Chris is still at large, he recently tried to bust a youtuber Onision for pedophilia and had the police called on him. The Onision somehow managed to serve papers to the wrong Chris Hansen and shows up to court looking like a cross between a school shooter and an extra from Cheech and Chong. Legit the best court case I've followed in a long time.

Oh god, he scored 16 year old. What a "pedophile". I guess in US everything has to be "bigger" and "more". Even pedophiles are not liking prepubescent children but grown up high school girls.

Unless he raped her or somehow used other means to force her to sex, then he is just guy who fucked 16 year old. I'll never understand, how US thinks it's okay to put 16 year old behind the wheel of car, which can take people's lives, but if that 16 year old decides to have sex, then they say that she isn't able to consent.

Preaching to the choir here, in the original show it would usually be a 12-14 year old eventually they started getting network traction and increased the range of their bait to 15-17 to get more material. Chris tries to game his visibility all the time and his presence online didn't garner the same numbers as his dateline features, I suppose someone told him that internet drama nets views and he decided to mess with Onision.

In the case of Onision the guy has done everything from attempting to start a cult to recording his ex-wife's mental breakdowns and posting them online. The guy has monetized every single part of his life bordering on the most personal minutia and it was incredibly entertaining watching him get cannibalized by some desperate attention starved has-been. The court case is little more than an exercise in poetic irony, most people I'd imagine could care less if he's dating a 16 year old.

I don't know the case, only commenting about this "pedophilia" with 16 year old.

This is all nuts, on one hand we have 5 year old deciding about irreversibly changing their bodies, through hormones, on other 16 year olds who aren't capable of deciding for themselves to have sex.

I often read people use argument, that "brain isn't developed fully until 25", but the same people are in favor of child abuse in form of putting 10 year old into erotic clothes and showing them in front of people, calling it "progressive drag queen performance".

I also read argument, that being into 18 is pedophilia, because "yes, she is 18, but if she was born later, she wouldn't be" - my fucking god.

On topic, in my country lately we had some guy being that kind of minor sheriff. It's not that easy however, because with age of consent at 15 years old, you can't really make fuzz about people fucking with "minor", you need to catch someone who tried to go for forbidden fruit at 14 or lower.
