Since I'm a newbie, I'm currently trying out a few anime, just to know what exactly am I into. So far, I liked them all so it's hard to "feel" my "type" of anime. However, I really liked how Made in Abyss, Mahou Tsukai no Yome and Hunter x Hunter made me amazed by the creatures in them. Made in Abyss in particular amazed me with the Abyss. Mahou Tsukai no Yome comes in second place with the world of Faeries. Those anime made me want to be in their world and see those places and creatures by myself. I'd like some recommendations on anime like those! I'm currently watching three animes (HxH is among them), but I if I like the recommended anime, I can forget my current watch list for a short while. Anyways,

Thanks!

For fantastical worlds most of them belong in the category of Isekai, and a few other ones(the ones you listed there and some more I bet). I haven't watched many shows like that but, I have watched some with weird creatures. The only one that I can think of without demons and stuff like that is Mushishi. If you want some shows with ghosts, demons and apparitions theres more out there.

Replies here are quick as always! Thanks! Mushishi and Mononoke look nice, but I'm not sure yet for the other two. Also I learned a new word today (isekai) HAHA! I'll google more isekai, I think I like it.

Forgot to add this:

It looks strange, but it's very good.

There are only a few types of creatures in Kemono no Sou-ja Erin, but they are very important to the story and not just props. Though it streams on Crunchyroll, I recommend tracking down the version by Central Anime which has a much better script. No video clips to avoid spoilage.

Miira no Kaikata has some cute creatures.

Mahou Shoujotai Arusu

And, maybe, Jungle wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu

I thought about including GeGeGe no Kitarou (2018) in my list, but Kitarou's yokai friends look mostly human. There certainly are a lot of creatures, but usually they're mononoke and not especially cute. See this week's episode for an example.

Tofu-kun is pretty cute though, and this version of Neko-musume is gorgeous. In earlier adaptations she has the chubbier form that we see as the mascot character who frequents the Shigeru Mizuki Road in Sakaiminato.

Definitely worth watching though. I wait impatiently for every episode. Tonight's episode 80 might have been the most tragic one of the series. Along with all the yokai, the show does cover a lot of ground, too.

Haven't seen any Studio Ghibli movies yet? You're missing out—I'm pretty sure you'd love Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and The Cat Returns!

Some more suggestions:
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica - lots of recommendations between this and Made in Abyss. also, lots of very unique visuals/environments when it comes to the magical creatures in this series.
  • Princess Tutu - set in a world where talking/anthropomorphic animals co-exist with humans and are considered as the norm here. generally beautiful anime.
  • Ojamajo Doremi - a family-friendly anime about girls becoming witch apprentices; sometimes they enter the witch world for their tests which looks wonderfully unique imo.
  • Animal Crossing - I really only suggest this to you if you play and like the Animal Crossing video games, because I kinda doubt anyone who hasn't these played any of these games would find interest or appreciate this at all.
This movie takes a lot from the 2nd game in the series (the DS game, Animal Crossing: Wild World) in particular, and adds an actual story focusing on the human villager, Ai. The world is pretty colorful (reminscient of the Pokémon anime actually, but that's probably cuz the same studio making the anime series produced this movie) and you might find yourself liking these characters.

I think you would really like Magi. It's lots of fun and has an amazing world that you just get hooked on. It far exceeded my expectations and I'm hoping that if you check it out, you'll end up liking it just as much as I did.

If you haven't already seen them when you were a kid, Digimon Adventure and Digimon Tamers are very high quality series with everything you asked for. The latter doesn't have the exotic places until around halfway in, though. Digimon Frontier is probably one of the weakest Digimons series but I will admit it has some damn gorgeous locales.

Although they take place in the real world, Blood Blockade Battlefront and Cardcaptor Sakura also has some pretty interesting creature designs.

Kanata no Astra might be the one you're looking for. It's about space travels throughout 5 planets. And each planet has different characteristic and creatures dwelling on it.

Wandering Witch is the best light novel ever!

Hey folks, thank you all so much! I certainly could have spent 10 times more time doing research alone. With so many suggestions I'll have fun for a pretty long time!

I see some movies have also been recommended, it's a great occasion to know the difference between series and movies (I've heard plenty of times that movies are graphically better). Anyways,

Thanks again!
