I'm looking for a solid starter anime for my gf but I'm not sure which to pick. I usually watch subbed but I think it would have to be one with a good dub just to start off with.

I was thinking FMA:B or MHA, but I'm not sure. I think she'd like AoT as well, but I'm not a huge fan of the dub. She'd probably be fine with subs, but I feel like it'd be a bit easier to start with a dubbed anime. It's been a while since I've watched it but is Hellsing Ultimate dubbed completely? That may be a decent one as well.

Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

Depends what she's into, a girlfriend I had a while back really got into hell girl but I think only the first season is dubbed unfortunately, she really resonated with the theme of that one since she liked horror/mystery type movies and the plot of hell girl is interesting enough to grab the attention of anybody in my opinion with it being similar to death note where instead of writing names in the book, they are typing names of the people they want dead on the internet.

Should I maybe just show her the first couple episodes of a few shows and see how she reacts to them? Death Note might be good, it's pretty short and the dub is decent - it may be good to pick a few genres and see what sticks.

Give her a taste of hentai first some of the bigger shows within prevalent genres

Comedy: Gekkan Shoujo, Grand Blue, Baka to Test, Gintama (albeit it does have a slow start), No Game no Life

Romance: Clannad AS, Say I Love You, Toradora, Maid-sama, Chivalry of a Failed Knight

Horror: Higurashi, Shiki, Blood-C, Another

Sports: Kuroko's Basket, Haikyuu, Run with the Wind, Major

Action: Attack on Titan, OPM, BnHA, SAO (might as well get her tastes confirmed ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°))

Fantasy: Made in Abyss, Fate/Zero, Re:Zero

I wouldn't go for too long shows (even though some were mentioned :P) as they tend to take a while to develop so she might end up being uninterested at first. After finding her tastes just take it from there

lol no don't show her shounen ( fmab and mha)
just try some good romance anime
kaicho wa maid sama
akatsuki no yona

and the best thing is to show her the first 3 episode of ( Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai)
i'm sure this will work

What movies has she seen? I think movies are a better entry than series because the commitment is so much lower. How about Mononoke Hime, Sennen Joyou, Summer Wars or Miss Sakurai? Mononoke Hime and Summer Wars have dubs.

Here, you can show her these trailers:

For a series, I recommend Nodame Cantabile.

Is there a specific genre she would like?

Action: MHA, OPM (can intertwine with Comedy genre), or AoT
Drama/Psycological: Death Note
Romance: Toradora!
Comedy: Konosuba
Horror: Higurashi
Sci-Fi: Steins;Gate
Movies: Your Name or Koe no Katachi

All of these shows have solid dubs, so no need to worry.

This anime is a good starter because it breaks the anime stigma of "anime is cartoon for kids."
