the nines are in reversed roles. male pistils, female pilots
and yes, probably all of them are hybrids. all of them had horns

what lack in them is personality, i kinda wanted them with different styles of franxx

One thing that still confuses me about the Nines are their horns. Unlike 002's they are translucent in appearance and seem to be almost holographic. Does anyone have any theories for this?

All the pistils have this but it doesn't appear all the time. Ichigo had one in episode 2 and Miku had one in episode 8.

I actually have an idea about this.

I think they are all in fact klaxxosaur hybrids. If your remember in the backstory episode between 002 and Hiro, some of the lab attendants were talking about how 002 was the best of what they had achieved with their experiment so far. It's safe to assume that they built off of 002 and probably perfected their 'experiment' of the klaxxosaur hybrids. So, what results from the perfection is probably a more human klaxxosaur hybrid.

Since these hybrids are more human, they probably have much less klaxxosaur qualities (probably something to do with the saurification process, I assume). I think the more klaxxosaur-like that the hybrids are, the more likely it is that they will go through the saurification process. This is probably what makes 002 more prone to it as well, since she's seemingly more like a klaxxosaur than the rest of the nines.

You can also kinda assume that the saurification process is probably the process by which the hybrid reverts to a more beastlike, klaxxosaur state. This comes from the name of (saur)ification.

TL;DR yes, the nines seem to be klaxxosaur hybrids that are even more refined than 002.

The nines don't seem to be half klaxosaurs in the same sense that zero two is. Also notice that unlike zero two their roles are reversed. I think they are an experiment just like how our group have specialized franxx unlike other groups.

Indeed! I think that has to do with what we already know about piloting the franXX. The two partners have to connect intimately, with their minds and bodies. Furthermore, if you recall the explanation we were given for the saurification process, it was because the yellow blood cell count was too high. I think when a hybrid pilot and a human pilot connect, the yellow blood cell count must get raised by the naturally high yellow blood cells of the hybrid. I think that this is a direct indicator of what must've been refined between 002 and the rest of the nines (if they're hybrids like I think).

We also know that all of the pilots receive yellow blood cell injections when they're still in the garden. If a pilot requires the yellow blood cells to pilot, but too many puts them at risk of saurification then that must mean something in relation to the klaxxosaurs (as aforementioned by the hint that the name 'saurfication' gives us).

Then, if you also remember, in the latest episode, we see that core that looks like a human is inside. Perhaps the klaxxosaur are mechs whose pilots saurified?

idk I have a lot of questions and theories, but I'm excited to see where the writers are taking this.

Everyone's talking about reverse positions, but tbh I don't think the nines have any gender at all?

I mean, the "girls" don't have boobs at all, looking at their suit.
