I have never watched a mecha before because I tend to not enjoy the genre. How do I know I don't enjoy the genre? Because I've seen clips here and there and the idea just isn't my cup of tea.

However, Code Geass seems to be really popular and I'm also not sure what to watch next. I thought I'll give it a try but it's 50 episodes which seems like a huge time investment if I end up not enjoying it.

I mostly enjoy animes with a good story/plot or that require you to think deep. Endless action or fan service is usually a turn off for me.

Do you think I'll enjoy Code Geass based on my library?

Honestly, I barely noticed it was a "mecha anime" when I first watched it. There's so much going on plot-wise, that it's hard to focus on that fact alone.

It wouldn't hurt to check out 2-3 episodes just to see if you'll enjoy it. Opening up to genres I didn't originally enjoy made me find some amazing diamond in the rough shows.

Definitely watch it, the mechas are really just weapons and not at all the focus.
The plot and the characters are great. No reason to hold back.

Yes, I don't like mechas, but Code Geass is really good, the mecha part is kinda on the second plane really, is mostly character and story driven than action driven. That said Code Geass isn't really that deep, just enjoy the story and the characters.

Just watch the first 3-4 episodes. It's personally my second favorite anime of all time so I bet you will enjoy it.

Very bad way to go about viewing a genre.

Code Geass would be a great introduction for you. It'll probably change your perception of the genre.

*Edit: based on your list I predict you will rate Code Geass a 7 or an 8 if you were to watch it*

Code Geass is closer to...

*Edit: dont see death note on your list, but whatever*

It's basically Death Note... But combined with Game of Thrones and it has occasional/on and off affairs with Star Wars.

Like if Light Yagame existed in the Star Wars Universe and started writing Sith Lords names down in his notebook while also manipulating politics in the senate. That would be Code Geass.

If you've ever watched ir read the sci fi cult classic 'Dune'.. That'd be something else sort of along the lines of Code Geass

I'll give it a try. I haven't watched death note but I basically know the whole plot line and everything major that happens. But yeah, I haven't watched death note because it didn't seem too interesting to me.

it's pretty stupid at times, but that doesn't stop it from being fun. even though i've only seen the first season i recommend you watch it. lelouch is a pretty cool protagonist too. also, you should give mecha a chance before you say you dislike it. even if you don't like mecha, you'll probably enjoy it.

It is a fucking brilliant masterpiece. You will not be disappointed. Also, the mecha barely has a large influence, there's so much complex plot going on you will fucking love it. I'll be writing a MAL Article on it soon, maybe that will persuade you. However, that's still a couple weeks away so I highly recommend watching it NOW. Season three is coming this year so FUCKING WATCH IT.

They're condensing it into movies so I'd just wait on that.

I was 100% the same way but I remember seeing parts of it as a kid and thought how cool it looked so I decided to watch it about my freshman year in highschool. One of my favorites to this day.
