I mean, Ill try not spoil a lot of things but.
THE FUCKIGN COCKPITS AND HOW YOU RIDE IN THEM.
THE FACT THAT "WORKER" BOT THE HIRO PILOTS HAS THE CONTROLLS CONNECTED TO WHAT SEEMS LIKE A DISEMBODIED ASS.

And a whole slew of other things. Like seriously, its not even subtle.

Well, you've seen Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, going into this, an emphasis on sexuality should be expected.

Gurren Lagann was pretty subtle. This anime is way over the top lol. This feels like disguised hentai!

YES! Based on the second episode that’s exactly what I was thinking! Obviously there’s more to it than that, but I feel the symbolism of sex is a going to be a big part of this show.

The problem is that those anime made the sexual themes empowering, while this one degrades the women quite blatantly.
It’s not degrading the women at all . There’s a reason why they are called pistil and Stamin . It’s clear they are gonna go deep into the themes of relationships and life . I didn’t see them being degraded at all . It’s them in a robot it’s not like they were shooting a porn video . It’s not like the women are useless like in most shows . It is a lil over the top but so was gurren lagaan and kill la kill

Exactly you get it. And this is Trigger after all, risque stuff is kind of their strong suit haha.

Yes because I'm sure you were sold on the idea of Ryuko and Satsuki fighting in skimpy clothing the first two episodes of Kill la Kill and I'm SURE you were on board with all the ass and tit shots shots of Yoko in the first two episodes of Gurren Lagann as well.

Seriously man it's been two fucking episodes and Trigger/Gainax always have a lot of sexual themes and imagery in their animes, this shit isn't anything out of the ordinary and it's most likely going to serve a bigger purpose like it did Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill (more so in Kill la Kill). Give it some time to flesh out, otherwise just drop it and move along. Seriously, I'm surprised you were able to get through one episode of Kill la Kill if this anime bugs you that much.

This show seems to lack subtly when it comes to the shows message and representation of relationships and sex. However, I'm still interesting, just hoping they give me a reason to give a shit about the MC because at the moment he's just a poorly written shinji 2.0. Also, Something as ridiculous as the mecha controllers being attached to a girls ass sounds like something out of a satirical raunchy comedy, not unlike the PS&G parody episode of transformers. However, in this series they seem to be playing it completely straight.

This.
I actually really like how characters are acting like it's completely normal.

On side note I don't think it's degrading women at all.
Male and female are required to pilot mecha and they need to coordinate, so they don't fail like that brat who couldn't finish the duel because he made his partner angry and stopped midair with his stick.
It also seems like a pistil can pilot mecha alone for some time (with consequences).
The mechas are also slightly resembling pistils that control it. Ichogo's mecha have a bangs over one eye, Miku's have this 2 pink things sticking out of its head just like her ponytails.

So it kinda makes the female partner more important than male one.
I'm watching anime since 2012. I also play games, sometimes.

Don't bother me if you want to 'become friends' or things like that.
It's tiresome. I know you just want to collect some meaningless numbers.
Thought: How many people sparked H. Charlotta just for blue pot?

Euphemism? Subtlety? What's that? Is it edible? This anime doesn't know such things.

The funny thing would be if that "WORKER" BOT THE HIRO PILOTS HAS THE CONTROLLS CONNECTED TO WHAT SEEMS LIKE A DISEMBODIED ASS" will actually be a human female there something like slave or something like that.

Some feminists will get an heart attack, until this how ends.

I'm so freaking confused by this thing. I think there could be something pretty insightful here about relationships and compatibility, and how forcing people into relationships is not the healthiest or most productive way of choosing partners.

But I cannot get my mind out of the ass controller sex thing, which might be the dumbest, weirdest, offensive thing I've seen by a show that apparently has a lot of pedigree behind it.

We all know how japan sucks at talking about sex, it's a taboo topic.
This second episode was about sexual compatibility. No matter how much you like someone, sometimes it doesn't work out in bed, no matter how much you try, and sex is a very important part in a relationship. Love doesn't solve everything.
Hiro's problem might even be about erectile dysfunction. He can only get it up with 02...

Then we have the other kid, which doesn't think about his partner when he's "piloting", he's just doing it for his own gratification.

For us westerns it's pretty common, i think it's a bit more taboo in america, but at least here in europe we couldn't be more open about it, so about this anime we're like "yeah, we get it" but this might be important for teenagers that idolize OTPs, which, let's be real, a couple of 16 year olds isn't going to last forever like all anime want you to believe.

Also, about the "controlling the girl" i don't think it's offensive, since the girls are the one actually in control, if the guy tries to do something the girl can't or doesn't want to do, she can just cut him off. The girls are the ones that consent to be "piloted" and have full control of the situation. The way the cockpit is designed is just so it's very obvious.

Its more like our current society has many problems, maybe we are the weird one by assuming this euphemism or that meaning.

Those trainee are brought up differently where they don't even know what is a kiss or the meaning of darling, so I doubt the whole scene and the girl's position even matter to begin with.

agree 100%. this show is hanging on a thread honestly. i think it's pretty dependent on how intelligent and self aware the writers are and whether or not they have the characters become aware of the way they're being objectified

Now I will associate Mecha's fights with erect dicks... joke aside, I have the same thought about the serie, and I like here it is going.

This is Kiznaiver doing Evangelion, in Gurren Lagann way.

I hate when there is a job which only works when you're a boy or a girl.
Why everyone piloting is a girl controlling by a boy? why not vice versa for a one team? or a homo team? not to focus on it, but for a side character at a corner.

Because I suppose that in Strelizia in her real form Hiro was on the female seat and Zero Two on man seat (if Zero Two is on female seat mech is in 4 leg form).
It may be possible that Zero Two can pilot with another girl :)

I dont get the sudden hate, the show has just started, it has been hinted that there are more teams in other places, one topic at time please.

Man! I know that people overestimating a show before half of the course is annoying, but more annoying is people underestimating it even before 3 or 4 chapters.

I don't get it. Is this supposed to change my opinion of the show? Are there really people who didn't pick up on the themes of reproduction from the title? Surely they noticed it in the trailer, or the synopsis? The promo art?

They literally have X and Y chromosomes on their chests.

That was not a strong hate, more a dislike. and there wasn't any overestimating thing for me, cause I didn't know about Trigger having new anime until I saw the first ep.
