Should movies based on Anime have the story made by the original author?

There are many movies that came out based on a certain Anime. But what surprises me is how little actual involvement the original authors had in the story of the movie. Just to clarify, I don't mean live movies.

The story usually ends up being nothing special. On top of that it either isn't canon, or even completely contradicts the canon. And sometimes it doesn't contradict the canon but it doesn't serve any purpose.

Very often everything is reset with the next episode of Anime and the movie events or characters are never referenced again. Which is why I believe an involvement of an actual author is very important.

There may be exceptions but for the most part I think many movies would benefit by receiving more input from the original authors.

What is your opinion about this?

It doesn't matter as long as the author of the adaptation follows the contract that pertains to the purchased licensing rights of the franchise. If the source material requires the adaptation to be identical or in spirit of the source material he/she should include that as a clause in the contract. Ghost in the Shell has multiple different interpretations by different authors of each adaptation. Ghost in the Shell Movie (1995), Ghost in the Shell (2017), Stand alone Complex and Arise are all different interpretation's of the Ghost in the Shell franchise. This is a good thing because fans can pick which versions they like best or watch other interpretations for a different perspective or want to enjoy content related to it as a franchise.

Interpretations of source material is good because it brings new vision to the franchise after the original author has left to create different works. It also means the brand is not sullied if a bad title comes out in the name. If you hated the new Ghost in the Shell movie, it doesn't change the love you may have had for the 1995 movie or Stand alone complex or arise, etc. Another advantage is lets say you enjoyed the manga that was finished years ago? Do you really want to watch the same thing in anime knowing all the plot details and characters? or would rather see the changes and what route the new story goes. You can still enjoy the manga as much as you want, but you could also enjoy the different route the adaptation took. Both become different products you can look at individually instead of one being a representation of the source material in a different medium.

I don't think you understood what I meant. I guess I didn't express myself well.

I am not against remakes or reboots or other things. My point was that the movies that are made not as an adaptation but have their own arc, should include the author to give suggestions.

For example, many Shonen Anime get their own movies but only in some of them have the authors been very involved. And these ones tend to be much better because the movie serves a function. Otherwise, the movies end the same way they begin, the canon characters can't die and their lives can't be changed in any significant way.

No, what's the point? It's not like we watch anime because the original adaptation is good or anything.

having movie as part of the canon (and not as finale) seems somewhat confusing for future watchers
