I don't think so. I think Kushida is the one behind it.
1. She hates Horikita
2. She was the one who made Horikita the class D leader (to make her look bad when she loses the card)
3. She was the one who initiated the scene with Horikita getting dirt on her head by making that comment (so that Ibuki could steal the card while Horikita cleans herself)
4. When Ibuki got back to the showers after stealing the card the first person she talked to was Kushida.
5. Kushida is an evil b*tch as we've already seen before lol

And Ayanokouji was only asking Horikita about her card because Ibuki probably is the Class C leader and hid her card there and Ayanokouji found it.

That's what I think

Edit. Or Hirata could also be the culprit seeing his reaction at the arson scene
Maybe he was angry that he didn't get chosen as Class leader or something. Or he was just horny and wanted his girlfriend's panties lol

I feel like his entire goal is to kick horikita out of the test because he doesn't want her to overwork herself more than she already has.

Well, that's one part of it; the other thing I think he's trying to do is switch the key card ownership to someone else because he may suspect that people know class D's leader.

Well i read this in the comment section of the streaming site

Result of survival test:

Class C = 0 points
Class A = 120 points
Class B = 140 points
Class D = 225 points

Thanks for all the quick answers. I was quite afraid that the MC would end up betraying Horikita. I'm really happy to hear that he won't betray her and that we will most likely get a happy ending.

I think ayanokoiji should not betray horikita.I think ayanokoiji and horikita should be in relation until the end.I didn't like the script of giving betrayl to horikita and i think most of the fans also won't like it.And where the hell kei karunizawa came from.I think it would be good if ayanokoji and horikita have a happy ending

You don't seem to be an LN reader, Ayanokouji didn't betray Horikita but the opposite, because Horikita didn't have faith in Ayanokouji, finnaly he thought Horikita couldn't be used as a tool and looked for new tools, Kei became an important character after vol 4 while the anime only adapted until vol 3 that's why you will never understand the story if you don't read LN, and lastly you are wrong to like COTE if you just want to see romance, this show is more of Psychological eventhough LN has a little bit of romance, if you want to know more I suggest you to read LN.

He’s not a LN reader you can tell as soon as he wants them to be in a relationship and says Kei came out of nowhere, anime only fans are so annoying when they complain about LN stuff when they clearly haven’t read a single page
