| You're in the grand finals of a competition, and you're final opponent just so happens to be your greatest rival. In terms of skill and knowledge of the competition, you are both equal. However, what separates you from your opponent is a trait that you excel at. If you were to choose between the 3 "S's", which of them would you choose to overcome your opponent? Speed to outrun your opponent? Strength to overpower your opponent? Or Stamina to outlast your opponent? |

| Hey Hey what do you say! It´s survey time again!! Happy Wednesday and Welcome to HST Survey Number 38! As always, if you feel like participating please answer this question game until Sunday, 7pm CET. Please check for your local time zone if you can´t do this survey before Sunday! Don´t spoil yourself! Don´t click the next spoiler button until you have answered the question/step you are currently at. Also don´t take this survey too seriously and have fun! ^^ BEST ATHLETE IN ANIME! Step 1: Nominate 4 anime characters you like who are athletes/sportsmen. They don´t have to be from Sports Anime! Anyone who takes his sport seriously or is somewhat good at a sport will do. Step 2: (Pick either Random or Serious!) It´s the return of the super random elimination! (if you picked it…) Luck is a factor in sports if we like it or not, so let´s see who runs out of luck early ;) Go to the profile of the first person who ever asked a question on your HST and check his Mean Score for Anime in the Anime Stats. If it´s… Under 5,5: eliminate the 1st character you nominated! Between 5,5 and 6,5: eliminate the 2nd character you nominated! Between 6,5 and 7,5: eliminate the 3rd character you nominated! Over 7,5: eliminate the 4th character you nominated! Eliminate the character who takes his sport least serious! If you can´t decide…well…there´s always the option “Random” :P Step 3: Competition Time! Each competition is worth 1 point! Once a character reaches his 2nd point, he is sent to the final and does not participate in the remaining competitions! The first 2 characters to reach two points are in the final, the remaining character is eliminated! C1: Which character is the most talented at his sport? C2: If you could turn one character into the captain of his team, who would it be? C3: Which character has had the most success in his sport so far? C4: Which character is most ambitious /obsessed with winning? C5: Which character´s sport do you like more personally? If both remaining characters do the same sport, draw lots! Step 4: Oh no! WADA has tested all four of your nominated characters from Step 1 and caught one of them using performance enhancing drugs! Which of your 4 nominees was most likely to cheat? If it´s one of your finalists, disqualify him and replace him with one of the other two characters you eliminated already! Welcome to the Unrestricted Final! Which of the two remaining characters did you enjoy watching more as a whole? Crown him “Best Athlete in Anime!” Thank you very much for participating in this survey! |

Step 1: Light Yagami (Death Note) Suzuka (Suzuka) Shirou Emiya (Fate series) Mikoto Suou (School Rumble) Step 2: Random it is! Thanks to your mean score, Suzuka is eliminated. Step 3: C1: Mikoto gets 1 C2: Shirou gets 1 C3: Mikoto goes to the final. C4: Light gets 1 C5: Light plays tennis, and that takes him to the final. Step 4: Ok, I'll say Light just because I can't picture any of the other characters cheating. Now Shirou takes his place in the final (just to keep some gender variety). Well, Shirou actually retired from his sport (archery), while Mikoto is actively practicing so it's only fair to crown her the Best Athlete in Anime! Till next time! |

| Hey Hey what do you say! It´s survey time again!! Happy Wednesday and Welcome to HST Survey Number 39! ^^ BEST MYSTERY ANIME! Step 1: Nominate as many Mystery Anime you liked as you want. You have to nominate at least 4. All shows must have a Mystery tag on MAL to be a valid nominee. SHORT VERSION: Nominate just 3 and skip Step 2! Step 2: Competition time! Every competition is worth 3 points for the winner and -1 point for the loser. After answering all questions, send the Top 3 to Step 3! TIEBREAKER: If necessary, break ties for 3rd place by redoing C1 with the tied anime only! C1: Which anime was most/least intriguing? C2: Which anime was the least/most predictable? C3: Which anime had the best/worst characters? C4: Which anime left the least/most questions unanswered? BONUS Points: Did you mind the unanswered questions from the losing anime in C4? If not, turn the -1 into a +1! Did you mind that you were able to predict things from the losing anime in C2? If not, turn the -1 into a +1! Step 3: Which remaining Anime managed to add to the atmosphere the best by adding great background music and/or sound effects? Send it to the final! It does not compete in Part 2 of this step! Which show has better relief-scenes? (non-mystery scenes, scenes who are irrelevant to move the main plot forward). The show you picked is your 2nd finalist! Step 4: Welcome to the Unrestricted Final! Which of the two remaining Anime did you enjoy watching more as a whole? Crown it “The Best Mystery Anime!” Is that so? If you clicked this button, crown the winner by redoing the Step 2 competition with the finalists only! ;) Thank you very much for participating in this survey! |

sytemet said: How do you choose what anime to watch next? How do you alternate between watching anime and reading manga: are you always in process of watching something and reading something or do you tend to exclusively watch anime and then switch to manga when you feel like it? I used to watch stuff on a whim: after finishing something I would just go for whatever crossed my mind at the moment, or whatever random title I saw in X site. Such process wasn't efficient at all, since more often than not I would just sit there, wondering what I should watch next, taking a lot of time to actually decide; so, when I joined MAL, I started to work on some sort of "watching schedule" based on my PTW list in order to avoid the aforementioned problem, and so far, it works nicely. Now, how does the watching schedule works? It's pretty simple, really: I just choose 2 or 3 shows from my PTW list, start watching them one at a time, and as I go, I pick another 1 or 2 to go to once I'm done with the initial set. The schedule is not set in stone, though, and I ignore it for seasonal shows, since I choose what to watch once the season actually starts; I also might ignore it because some anime suddenly caught my interest, but that doesn't happen very often; and lately I've been ignoring it because I joined the Anime Watching Challenges club and the stuff on my schedule didn't work for the challenges I'm trying to complete. Now, about manga and anime, well, they say variety is the spice of life, so, to use your words, I'm usually in the process of watching something and reading something, though I watch more than I read not because reading is boring, but because when I pick up a good manga I get so caught up in it that time just flies by me, and there's university stuff to take care of, so I can't always afford to do that. Tarotist said: In your opinion, what is the most important element of a mystery anime? The details. I believe mystery is a truly unforgiving genre, very difficult be done right, and even the slightest mistake can make things either too obvious or feel out of place (that feeling you get when something comes out of nowhere, doesn't make sense at all, yet the writers force it in there and expect you to just buy it and keep watching). So when the plot is not well thought and consistent, any detail can be the show's doom, no matter how good the idea behind the whole thing was. PhKay said: Hey Hey what do you say! It´s survey time again!! Happy Wednesday and Welcome to HST Survey Number 39! It's kinda funny how this survey comes the same day I finished Shinsekai yori. Step 1: Shinsekai yori Monster Baccano! Ergo Proxy Gankutsuou Step 2: C1: Shinsekai yori could be use to define that word. Least, Baccano! C2: Hard to choose since the phrase "I didn't see that one coming" came out of my lips at least once with each of those shows, but I did say that a lot with Ergo Proxy. Gankutsuou loses here. C3: Baccano! has a great cast, the others have great casts too, but yeah, Baccano!. Ergo Proxy loses. C4: Monster wins. Baccano! which is kinda obvious since the LN is still publishing. Bonus: Gankutsuo gets a +1 from C2 Shinsekai yori and Monster with 3 points each, and Ergo Proxy with 2 points advance to the next step. Step 3: Part one: Shinsekai yori goes to the final. Part two: Monster is our second finalist. Step 4: C1: Shinsekai yori. C2: Shinsekai yori. C3: Monster. C4: Monster. Bonus: Both get an extra point because the flaws weren't that important. Tiebreaker: With only two candidates it's kinda obvious: Shinsekai yori. So, after a very hard competition Shinsekai yori gets the title of "Best Mystery Anime!" Till next time! |

| Hey Hey what do you say! It´s survey time again!! Happy Wednesday and Welcome to HST Survey Number 40! ^^ This Survey is a bit longer and different from what you guys are used to. Therefore the Deadline will be expanded until Tuesday the 24th! The survey was entirely created by ftFate! Fate´s Survival Challenge! Step 1 For this survey, you are allowed to nominate 9 (or even more, if you feel like going crazy) anime (or manga) characters. Or if you want the shorter version, you can skip step 3. Said anime characters will be your team in an upcoming tournament which will have both mental and physical challenges. You may nominate anyone that has a MAL entry, but that’s the only requirement to join. Surprise! (Okay, probably not). Your team was the only team that signed up, so your team members have to fight each other! But fear not, they have all received the blessing of the fat cat from Aria, so they each start with nine lives. Unfortunately for some characters though, any resurrection/reincarnation/immortality abilities are turned off for these lives. If you ever only have 2 surviving characters, move straight to step 3. But now, tournament time! Step 2 Challenge 1: You have to follow the instructor to the tournament area! This turns out to be quite the long run, through various obstacles and terrains! In fact he’s not even running to the tournament area, just a nonsense path to see who gives up first… You are allowed to follow him by any means you want, but if you ever are outside of a kilometers range from him, you lose. The nominee to lose first loses 5 lives, the nominee that loses second loses 3 lives and the nominee to lose third lose 1 life. Challenge 2: After 3 people gave up or otherwise failed, the instructor now leads the nominees to the actual tournament area. But sadly, there is a giant Sphinx guarding it. To enter you must either defeat it in battle, solve it’s riddle or otherwise trick it to let you past… but this is no ancient Sphinx with weak physical attributes and outdated riddles. It’s a Terminator one (with built-in Wi-fi) built for combat, and it has modern riddles to challenge even the smartest of minds. What nominees get past it regardless of this? Anyone who doesn’t loses 3 lives. Challenge 3: Inside the area, you are brought to meet with the person hosting the tournament. To your dismay, he reveals himself to be none other than Urobutcher, laughing maniacally at the chance to torture the nominees in order to increase viewership and profits. And since torturing popular characters would bring in more viewership, they naturally get a harder time. Rank your characters according to amount of MAL favorites they have, starting from the highest. All nominees lose x-n lives, where x is the amount of nominees you have left in the tournament and n is it’s place in the rankings you just made. Step 3 Challenge 4: Now it’s time for the actual tournament to start! It has 4 challenges, each corresponding to a mental or physical ability… starting with Dexterity! Here the nominees are to run an obstacle course with various challenges testing their Dexterity! The nominee who is slowest loses three lives, the second slowest nominee loses two lives and the third slowest nominee loses two lives. The fastest gain two lives. Challenge 5: The next challenge is Intelligence! Each character has to take a test which tests both IQ and knowledge such as Biology, Geography or Philosophy. The nominee that scores lowest loses three lives, the second lowest scorer loses two lives and the third lowest scorer loses one life. The highest scorer gains two lives. Challenge 6: The next challenge is Strength! So honest lifting it is! Or as honest as you want, each nominee has to lift weights, and the one who manages to lift the heaviest weights wins! So who is the strongest? The nominee that manages to lift the least loses three lives, the nominee that manages to lift the second least loses two lives, and the nominee that manages to lift the third least loses one life. The one lifting the heaviest weights gains two lives. Challenge 7: The last challenge is Charisma! Here the nominees have to do some kind of artistic performance to impress the judges, using whatever tricks they want to! Sadly for some, the judges are immunity to magic and fear, so no spellcasting or threatening. The judges then gets to give points based on the performance. Their favorite gains two lives, their least favorite loses three lives, their second least favorite loses two lives and their third least favorite loses one. Step 4: If you still have more than 2 characters left, the two characters with most lives left gets to proceed to the finals, everyone else gets eliminated. If you need to tiebreak, the nominees get to fight to the death, any means necessary and allowed. Last one (or two) people standing goes to the finals. Finals: For the finals, the nominees left gets to compete in any way you want. Which essentially means, you get to decide the winner since you get to skew the competition either way. So the winner is the winner of the final match and (probably) your favorite out of the two. Thank you very much for participating in this survey! |

PhKay said: So what are your thoughts on Shinsekai yori? Tell me everything about it lol...it even made your favorites list, wlecome to the club :) We don´t find "Masterpieces" every day you know... So, do I get to know the secret handshake? Do I get a membership card? We'll talk about that later, don't even think about playing dumb with me... Shinsekai yori is very ambitious, well constructed, consistent, manages to keep the mysterious atmosphere throghout the whole 25 episodes, and deals with quite a few interesting topics, all while keeping the viewers intrigued and surprising them quite often. But, how do they manage to keep us intrigued? What do they do to keep everything shrouded in mystery? I can think of three reasons: they don't rely on a single plot point, but rather have quite a few things to explore and take their time with each one of them; the fantastic OST does a great job enphasizing the emotions portrayed in each scene; and, one of my favorite things about this anime, the way the story is presented to the viewers: we only see and know what Saki sees and knows, and so everything that lays ahead is completely unknown, since we don't have any extra sources of information. That way they kill two birds with one shot: we are always intrigued, and by going through the whole journey alongside Saki, we easily relate to her and care for her. A great example of what I just mentioned can be seen in that fantastic episode where the kids find the false minoshiro (hope I got that right). The truth about the world, which is probably the most prominent mystery in the beginning of the show, is revealed, and they use that to pose new questions and lay the ground for what comes next, thus moving the plot forward; this revelation is shocking and the music helps to turn the moment it happens into a very powerful and memorable one; and just like Saki, we can only wonder what will happen now that they know all this, thinking this will become a struggle to survive for the kids, still oblivious to the fact that this show is definitely not predictable. I also want to mention that even though mystery is prominent, it's not the only thing you can see in Shinsekai yori. There's drama, as seen when Saki reads Maria's letter while we see how they met and became so close. There's action, specially in the last 5 or 6 episodes, when Squeeler makes his move. There are light hearthed moments, like the one with Saki and Shun in the boat. And the show can also be very creepy, like when we see what Squeeler did with the queens of the colonies, but most of all, when Maria's daughter shows up for the first time in that hospital. All those moments strengthened by that fantastic OST that has pretty much the perfect track for every situation. In the begining I said that the show deals with some interesting topics, so let's talk about that. From the first episode we see that people living in the villages have to follow very specific rules, and there's zero tolerance for those who are inclined to disobey, regardless of how seemingly insignificant their faults might be. A control system where humans live under constant surveillance and evaluation, and parents have to deal with the ever present fear of having their children removed from them at any moment. Humans have no freedom. Then, we have the other species, the "queerats", who are nothing but the servants of the humans, and live afraid of the (not so) distant possibility of being totally anhilated by their "gods". These creatures have even less freedom than humans. There are two similarities between how humans and queerats live: lack of freedom, and constant fear. However, in my opinion, the first is a direct product of the latter, and is precisely the latter the one which better explains the situation both races live in: in order to prevent another catastrophy, the humans of ancient times modified the coming generation's DNA so that they can't kill each other without paying an equally terrible price. Fear drove them to do that. Through Tomiko we learn the truth about the control system of the villages: a human who lost control of their Cantus killed lots of people before, and afraid of something like that happening again, they chose to get rid of potentially dangerous yet inocent children. They have lived in peace ever since, so to them, the end justifies the means. Squeeler, tired of being treated like a slave and afraid of the day when the humans finally decide to exterminate his race, deviced a plan to get rid of them, no matter how many lives are lost as long as they achieve their goal. To him, the end justifies the means. Both races, led by fear, made pretty much the same choices, and both races got the same thing in exchange: a pretty damn big dead toll. Ok, I'll be honest here, Shinsekai yori offers a lot to talk about and your question was too vague, so I decided to go for a pretty general approach, trying to cover everything that came to mind at this moment while keeping it simple, since I'm not that good with words. If you want me to elaborate on a particular point, or to talk about something I didn't mention here, feel free to ask (this totally isn't because time is an issue for me right now) Zeronius said: If you could create a flavour for anything what would it be? That's actually a pretty good question. Sadly I'm not creative enough since every flavour I could think of already exists... Damn, that's frustrating for some reason. Tarotist said: You will be participating in a variation of the game "King of the Hill" where everyone starts on top of the hill. Everyone will push and tug at others to knock them off the hill. The last one standing on the hill is the winner. What will be your strategy to win? I'd lay low, avoid direct confrontations in the early stages of the game, watch and enjoy how my rivals eliminate each other, getting tired in the process, and then strike. Great strategy, if laying low was at all possible here... |

sytemet said: Pros and cons of the Steins;Gate VN compared to the anime adaptation? Making this comparison would be like comparing visual novels and anime in general, and I don't feel like doing that, so instead, I'll just tell you that in my opinion the Steins;Gate anime is the perfect example of what VN adaptations should aim to be: you don't have the same level of detail nor the same amount of information the VN provides, but all the essential parts of the story are there, with an ideal pacing, and, it's been a while since the last time I watched it, but I don't think they took too many liberties with the plot. As a result, the Steins;Gate anime is something both fans of the source material and newcomers to the story alike can enjoy (I was a newcomer the first time I watched it), as opposed to those adaptations which end up making no sense unless you know the source material beforehand, or take so many creative liberties that the end result turns out to be completely unrelated to the material they were supposed to be adapting (that movie "Wanted"? that's how you ruin a great comic book). If you're looking for motivation to try the VN, I can tell you that the other routes (Not Kurisu's) are pretty good, not very long, but they're nice; the art is beautiful, in my opinion; the explanations regarding phenomena like the gel banana are great; and you get to "be" Okabe instead of just seeing him, which is cool... If you like Okabe, of course... PhKay said: Hey Hey what do you say! It´s survey time again!! Happy Wednesday and Welcome to HST Survey Number 41! I'd love to do the double version, but I don't know most of the female candidates, and I think nominating other characters kinda defeats the purpose of this survey, sooo: Step 1: Saitama Squealer Takeo Sakurako Step 2: C1: Hard competition right off the bat since all my nominees are key in their respective anime, but I'll give this one to Sakurako because her anime would be nothing without her. Squealer loses because... He's the only supporting character among my nominees, I guess. C2: Saitama wins. Squealer loses again. C3: Takeo earns his popularity. Poor, poor Saitama. C4: Sakurako!!! Salurako with 6 points goes to the final. Takeo with 3 and Saitama with 2 will battle in the third step. Goodbye, Squealer. Step 3 - The Random Version Hahaha! That was incredibly random. I'm pretty sure both of them would survive, but Saitama is in a whole different level, so he goes to the final. Step 4: Alright, the Overall Survey Champion 2015/16 is... The Caped Baldy!! Gae-Bolg said: If you had to pick the world of an anime/manga/VN/game to live in, which would it be? Very goid question. See, I'm tempted to mention a bunch of stuff I like but, upon closer inspection, I realise many of the worlds that come to mind at first might not be such a great idea. Take the videogame Bishock Infinite, for example: a city in the skies is a fantastic idea, and the kind of place I'd love to visit if it really existed, but then, as in every game, stuff happens, and I'd hate to be there at that moment. Skyrim offers a big and beautiful world, with lots of things to discover, but I don't want to live under the constant fear of being eaten by a dragon at any given time. Some world that offers the possibily of traveling through space, meeting different planets and races, like Mass Effect or Cowboy Bebop to mention an anime, sounds nice too, but there always has to be some kind of conflict going on. In the end, I'll go with One Piece. I'm doomed in this world too, but I might be just lucky enough to visit some of the very imaginative and fantastic places seen throughout One Piece before meeting my end at fangs of some sea king, or I might find a safe island and settle down... Nah, if I plan to settle down I might as well stay in the real world; I'll live the adventure, meet interesting and fun places and then die at the fangs of a random sea king. |

A good reward is nice motivation, too. sytemet said: If you could create a setting for an anime of your choice, what would it be like? You can also nominate which studio you’d like to see create said anime. A sci-fi anime involving intergalactic travels, with a variety of alien races taking part. The mc could actually be an alien who, after meeting many different worlds, stumbles upon the Earth; or a human astronaut whose mission goes wrong (yeah, I know, that's as cliché as anything could be...), and somehow ends up in an unknown world inhabited by an unknown race... Or something actually original. Anyway, there are many possibilities, but the only thing I know for sure is that it would be set in space. As for the studio, well, I like Madhouse. icarenot said: What do you like most about yourself? I'm a tolerant person, so it's hard to get on my nerves. Also I have a good sense of humor, try to see the funny side in everything that happens to me, and have no problem laughing about myself (we all do stupid stuff every now and then). Batman or Superman ? Who do you like more and why? I've never been a Superman fan simply bacause I always thought his powers made things too easy for him, and since kryptonite is practically the only way to hurt him, he turns out to be very monotonous and rather boring. Batman, in the other hand, being nothing but a man, has to resort to his cunning in order to sort out the difficulties he might encounter, and that usually makes things very entertaining. I guess I just like the idea of a man being among the most powerfull heroes of the Earth, thanks to sheer dedication and will power. |

You're right, that's some crazy affinity. And our anime affinity is almost 75%, which is pretty high too. Anyway, my PTR list is full of stuff I'd like to try ASAP, but time is always an issue. I've been meaning to read Freesia for a while, and I'm very curious about Slam Dunk, too; but if I have to choose one manga, it would actually be one of your favorites: 20th Century Boys. Ever since I watched Monster, I've been curious about Naoki Urasawa's work. I recently finished Pluto and it magnified my curiosity, the end was rather lacking, but I really enjoyed the ride; and as 20th Century Boys is usually considered Urasawa's masterpiece, I just have to read it. |

| Hello ^^ Thanks for being one of the people who has supported my surveys regularly by doing 20+ of them in the first survey season :-) These are the rules for Season 2 as well as a bonus/test survey which i will be doing under the new rules. So if you feel like doing this survey and/or giving me your opinions on the rules, here it is! THESE RULES ARE PROVISIONAL, so if a majority of you "veterans" dislike a rule, i will of course change it. The goal is to find simple yet effective rules together before we present them to everyone ;) P.S.: I won´t present the rules like you read them here...i´ll make sure to highlight the important parts and add some "shape" to them before presenting. Thanks in advance for helping me out and take your time with this whole post and test survey. Answering within the next two weeks is totally enough! :) Overview for Newcomers: HST Surveys (named after the Monia Cafe Hot Seat Threads since this is where it all started) are fun surveys held once a week. There will be a new topic for each survey each week and we will crown a winner for each survey every Sunday. However, these surveys are not just asking for your opinions, but rather consist of a "question game" with sometimes very random questions, so you might end up with a result that will surprise you ;) Our first season which ran for 42 weeks (= 42 surveys) is over, and what you will be reading here are the rules for our 2nd season which will start in July :) Participating: There are three ways to take part in the Surveys! 1. If you have a Hot Seat Thread at Monia Café, i will be posting the new survey there every week and you can answer it there too of course. 2. If you do not have an active HST, you can take part by posting your answer right here in this thread as i will be posting the surveys here as well. 3. The surveys take place in two clubs. Our main club is Monia Café of course, but each survey gets its own thread over at Yggdrasils too. It´s a club run by Harus which has many Monia Café members. You do not have to participate in every single survey! You can do as many or as few as you like ^^ Procedure: I will be posting a new survey each Monday. If you want to participate, please answer the survey until Sunday, 7pm CET. I will collect all results and then present the final standings on Sunday. Each Survey will consist of a "Full Version" and a "Short Version". You can do only one of those two or both if you feel like it. The Full Version will always consist of 4 Steps, with Step 1 making you nominate your Anime Characters or Anime and Steps 2-4 making you eliminate them from the survey until only one nominee is left. The one left standing is your winner of course! Full Versions are designed to take you between 10-20 minutes on average, though how long you take depends on how detailed you feel like answering. Short Versions consist of 2 Steps. Step 1 is a nominationstep and Step 2, called "Eliminator", will quickly bring you down to your winner by answering a few short questions. Short Versions take less than 5 minutes to complete. Points Allocation: Winning a Full Survey is worth 10 points. Winning a Short Survey is worth 7 Points Reaching Step 4 (=The Final) in a Full Survey is worth 3 Points. A nomination is worth 1 Point. Whoever collects the most points among all participants wins the survey! If two or more nominations are equal on points, a Voting Poll will decide the winner. KEEP IN MIND THAT HST SURVEYS WILL ALWAYS HAVE ANIME CHARACTERS OR ANIME AS WINNERS! THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION BETWEEN THE PARTICIPANTS!!! How the Season works: The Season will run until the end of May 2017. Everybody who has won a Survey until then will qualify for the Finals where we will crown the Overall Champions of the Season! I archive all results! If you want to look at the 1st season, you can look up the victory presentations of all surveys in my blog section here: http://myanimelist.net/blog/PhKay The most obvious changes are the Points System and the Double Participation. After the test survey, we can have a look together and see if you like it or if we go back to the old system. Also, let me know what you thnk of having the chance to double-participate on each survey please :) I´ll keep the 4 Steps on the Full Versions as they are, but i promise to try and find new and more different forms of competition types ^^ If you have any ideas on this too, i´m totally willing to listen hehe Other Goals: Any other goals for the new season you can come up with we should set ourselves to make it more interesting? Tell me! Two i came up with: 1. More "guest" surveys if people wanna create their own survey as it mixes the usual system up. Fate´s survey was pretty popular ^^ 2. Find survey topics connected to actual events going on in the world once a month (like doing an "Olympic Survey" during the Rio 2016 games etc.) -------------- Here´s the test survey. I´ll keep it short since the main purpose is to try the points thingy and to see how the victory presentation looks so we can see together if it´s better or worse ^^ Topic is "Best Survey" lol as i can´t officially do that for obvious reasons and i´m curious. You probably have to look through and find you HST to search for the surveys on Step 2, C1 so if that´s too annoying for you, just skip this competition. Step 1: Nominate your 4 favorite surveys you participated in! You can look through them here: http://myanimelist.net/blog/PhKay Step 2: Competition time! Every competition is worth 3 points for the winner and -1 point for the survey in last place. After all competitions, the survey with the most points advances to the final. The survey in last place is eliminated. The other 2 are moving on to Step 3. Tiebreakers: Break all necessary ties by redoing C1 with the tied surveys only! C1: Which Survey had the most/least fun Competition Step? C2: Which Survey came up with the winner you like/dislike the most? Bonus Points! +3 for every Survey where you won a Gold Medal! +1 for every Survey where you won a Silver or Bronze! -2 for every Survey with less than 20 participants! Step 3: In the Final of which of the two surveys fighting in this step did you struggle more to decide on a winner? Send it to the Final! Turn this into a random coin flip if you can´t remember and feel to lazy to look it up lol Step 4: Unrestricted Final! Which Survey was more fun to do as a whole? Crown it the "Best Survey!" -------- Step 1: Step 1: Nominate your 4 favorite surveys you participated in! You can look through them here: http://myanimelist.net/blog/PhKay The Eliminator! C1: Eliminate the Survey with the fewest number of participants! C2: Eliminate the Survey with the winner you are most unhappy with! C3: Eliminate the Survey with the less interesting topic! |

PhKay said: Thoughts on Nodame Cantabile? :) A very fun lighthearted anime, perfect for getting out from my usual anime watching routine. I really like classical music and I believe it's a pretty difficult subject to handle, yet this anime treats it with the care and respect it deserves, all while favoring an easygoing and comical atmosphere instead of an overly dramatic one, and I really appreciate that; drama is not the only way to take something seriously. At first I feared that the romantic aspect might end up becoming the main focus of the show, but thankfully that was not the case. Music stays as the most important thing and everything that happens in the story is somehow connected to it: the main characters meet thanks to music, the only thing they have in common is music, and it is more than enough for them to get along. All the character interactions are a byproduct of the musical experiences they share together, and their personal issues and ideals too have to do with music. All the episodes where a concert took place were a real treat for me, as I could just sit back and relax while listening to the great masterpieces they chose to portray. Last but not least, Nodame herself is a riot. I had waaay too much fun with her... I don't know, "lunacy", maybe? I have no idea what word to use in her case. Anyway, they don't make characters like her anymore, it's all tsunderes everywhere. sytemet said: What is your favourite arc in One Piece? How long do you hope the series will end up being? I think most fans would answer "Marineford" here, but that's not my case. My favorite is Enies Lobby, and when I say Enies Lobby I mean everything that happens from the moment they arrive in Water Seven until they leave in the Sunny. Just think about all the stuff that goes on during this arc: we meet Franky, Luffy and Ussop fight with the latter leaving the crew, we learn about Robin's past (something I was very curious about ever since she joined the crew), the freakin' Sogeking shows up, Luffy comes up with gears second and third, the Luffy vs Lucci fight takes place (my favorite fight in the whole manga/anime), Sanji's first wanted poster, Luffy's family is revealed, and of course... The Merry dies :-( That arc is too damn epic. To answer your second question, I used to think we had another ten or more years of One Piece but after all the revelations during the Zou arc, the story really picked up the pace and now I think it could end in the next five years or so, maybe a bit more. | @PhKay Step 1: Best Parent Best Dark Anime Best Manga Adaption Best 90s Anime Step 2: C1: My memory is a bit fuzzy but I think the best was Best Dark Anime. Least... I'll go with 90s C2: Well, out of all the winners of my nominated surveys, I only know FMA, so that's 3 points for Best Manga Adaption. Nobody loses points here. Bonus: Best Manga Adaption+3. Best 90s Anime +1. Best Parent is eliminated, and Best Dark Anime goes to the final thanks to the tiebreak. Step 3: I think Best Manga Adaption has been the hardest survey for me, so we have our second finalist. Step 4: Like I said before, Best Manga Adaption was the hardest for me and that also made it the Best Survey! in my opinion, of course. My thoughts on the new rules I really like the point system as I believe it will make the tiebreakers easier for some surveys. On the other hand, I don't see the point in the double participation thing since it seems kinda redundant to me, but I might be the only one who feels that way. The guest surveys are a nice idea since the lack of variety might be the main reason why the participation rate dropped; and last but not least, I really like your idea of making surveys connected to current events; it seems like a great way to encourage participation and keep things fresh, while viewing anime from different and unusual perspectives. |

| Our opinions regarding entertainment seem to match quite well so I wondered if we though alike in other topics. Let's see if we have the same conclusion: Let’s say that you and a stranger are captured by a mad scientist. Said scientist will overwrite your brain with the sum of all the data in the other person’s brain and vice versa. After the brain-swap one of you will receive one million dollars and the other will be subject to torture. PhKay said: Thoughts on Joker Game? :) Honestly, I found it disappointing. The show was enjoyable but I expected more, especially after the first two episodes. I praise the fact tha it presents a very ralistic approach on what a spy's work actually is, and some of the cases were really interesting, but the introduction of a new protagonist every week resulted in me never connecting with the show, and never caring about what could happen to the week's mc. The other problem I had was Yuuki's perfection: he always had the hang of every situation and when it looked like there was another spy master who could be a worthy rival for him, it turned out that Yuuki was one step ahead and had the perfect way out of trouble, making foreign spy agencies look like complete amateurs before his greatness. Yeah, they took it too far with him. In my opinion, Joker Game is one of those shows you enjoy while they last but easily forget about once they end; it had potential to be more, but didn't live up to it. sytemet said: Our opinions regarding entertainment seem to match quite well so I wondered if we though alike in other topics. After the brain-swap one of you will receive one million dollars and the other will be subject to torture. You can decide if the million dollars goes to the person whose brain is about to be overwritten with yours or your current body. Which choice will you make? That's a tough question. See, if there's something I learned from Spider-Man's comics in recent years is: even if your brain is overwritten with other person's data, a small part of yourself might remain and eventually grow and regain control of your body. Considering that, I could give the money to my current body, hoping that someday the Peter Parker in me will recover what's supposed to be mine, allowing me to enjoy the money in my original body. But what if I take too long to recover my body and once I do my new self already wasted the money, leaving me in a completely miserable situation? Then I'll give the money to my new body, I'll multiply the money and become so rich that all my cash will rot away before I can decide what to do with it (because right now I'm feeling confident enough to believe I could build my own empire instead of just wasting the money in casinos and prostitutes)... Only to have the other person recover their body and enjoy the empire I created... But I could use the money of my new empire to find a way to erase every last shred of the other person's conciousness. Yeah, I'll go with that one. The important thing here is avoiding torture, anyway. Tarotist said: You are forced to watch an Ecchi anime. However you have two choices: Extreme vulgar language or heavy nudity? I always thought ecchi was all about hot girls shamelessly exposing their attributes; this is the first time I hear vulgar language alone is enough for an anime to be considered ecchi. I learned something today. Vulgar language has never bothered me, and if I want heavy nudity I might just watch a hentai. Besides, it's been a while since puberty ended for me so I guess I'll go with vulgar language. |

PhKay said: Thoughts on The Girl Who Leaps Through Time? A fun movie that does a good job with a rather overused premise, but still, in my opinion, it had potential to be better. Makoto is very good character, one of those unusual persons whose behavior can be quite fun to watch. I mean, you have the ability to leap through time, the posibilities are endless, yet you go back in time to eat a pudding before your sister does. That's the kind of person Makoto is, and the smplicity and naivety behind her time travels, as well as the silly situations she gets herself into, are definitely the charm of this movie... But they ended up becoming my issue with this movie, too. When the truth about Chiaki is revealed, I was so distracted by the comedy and silly moments of the movie that I had forgotten a few suspicious scenes involving Chiaki earlier on, as well as the mysterious situation where Makoto got her ability, so the revelation was totally unexpected for me, and the whole thing from that point until the end of the movie (the "serious" part of the plot) felt rather rushed for me, and that's why I didn't give this movie a higher score. If they were going to throw a "you-know-what,-I-come-from-a-far-away-future-where-the-world-is-not-so-nice" bomb, they should have expanded more on the idea, maybe discard a few of the slice of life/comedy moments and prepare the ground, so that the plot twist doesn't feel so sudden. Or they could have just gone for a slice of life/sci-fi movie all the way, carrying the style we see for the bigger part of the movie until the very end. Either way, I think it would've turned out better. All in all, The Girl Who Leaped Through Time is a good movie that I think any anime fan could enjoy, but I also think it's overrated. Hey Hey what do you say! It´s survey time again!! (We Are Back!!! ^^) Happy Monday and Welcome to HST Survey Number 43! It's nice to see the surveys are here again. By the way, I can't believe you never did a best comedy survey before, since it's such and obvious topic. I always thought you might had done it before I started participating. Anyway, let's do this! Step 1: School Rumble Great Teacher Onizuka Gintama One Punch Man Detroit Metal City Step 2: C1: That's difficult. I'll go with GTO. -1 for Gintama C2: Damn, they all could win. School rumble +3. OPM -1 C3: You're not making this easy, man. A very, very close competition between Onizuka, Harima, and Negishi, but Harima is on my favorites list, so School rumble +3. C4: Negishi would probably go as Krauser, and whereever Krauser goes, his fans go too. His sole presence is enough to entertain them, so the others don't stand a chance. DMC+3. I can't picture Harima doing well here. School rumble -1. Bonus: School rumble +1 School rumble, GTO, and DMC go to step 3. Step 3: Well, School rumble to the final. DMC is our second finalist Step 4: Well, if you've been reading the whole survey I think it's pretty obvious: sytemet said: I'll bounce back your question about favourite One Piece character. Zoro, definitely. First and foremost, I'm a katana nut and he uses three, but what I really like about him is his personality. One moment you see him completely dedicated to his training and nobody takes an enemy more seriosly than he does; the next moment, he's fast asleep in the middle of a nightmarish storm while the others do their best to survive, or taking a left turn when his friends in front of him go up the stairs. He's also Luffy's support, the one who keeps him and the whole crew focused when it's necesary, like when Usopp leaves. I guess I just like the contrasts of his personality, but the same could be said about the others, so maybe it is only because of the katanas after all. |

Sethlans said: It's nice to see the surveys are here again. By the way, I can't believe you never did a best comedy survey before, since it's such and obvious topic. cheers for taking part again ^^ I can explain why there has never been Best Comedy: In the early days of the surveys i had no idea if it would last for long or not but i had a few more creative or specific topic in mind so i wanted to save "Best Genre" surveys until i get to a point where i can´t up with anything else. Also there aren´t too many genres so i have to use them little by little or else i run out of them quickly... also early on i thought topics need to be very specific to limit the number of possible nominees. I didn´t want to end up with a mass poll as a decider all the time haha ______ ANYWAY after what you said about The Girl Who Leaped Through Time about the destractions/ comedic scenes taking your focus away from certain more serious moments which served as hints for what´s actually going on...Do you feel this "mistake" has been done in other anime too which have both these elements? (Dramedy is possibly the best example) you know, anime where they overused one genre over the other and it has a negative effect on you? |

Zoro has been my favorite for the majority of the time, but Usopp finally took over in Dressrosa-arc. What is your favourite Zoro-moment? |

I don't think I've ever felt like that with other anme besides that one. A somewhat similar situation could be Concrete Revolutio. In general terms, I liked the idea behind the plot but there was so much stuff going on, and so many different plot elements to cover that it was hard for me to keep up. It was as if the creators themselves didn't know exactly where they wanted to go with the show... But I haven't watched the second season, so I might be wrong about that. sytemet said: That’s a good one. | Let us assume that in the future, it will be mandatory for a human to transfer their minds into machines. In other words, we would become androids or robots. The advantage of this is that because we are machines, we are technically immortal and that we would not suffer the burdens that a human has to endure like hunger, disease, and exhaustion. The downside is that the human lifestyle would become extinct. No need for hospitals or schools because our thoughts are data, and sexual reproduction would no longer be necessary because our "minds" can be easily replicated and transferable from machine to machine. Would you accept this mandatory law of transitioning from human to machine, or will you rebel against that law and retain your humanity? |

| Hey Hey what do you say! It´s survey time again!! Happy Monday and Welcome to HST Survey Number 44! As always, if you feel like participating please answer this question game until Sunday, 7pm CET. Please check for your local time zone if you can´t do this survey before Sunday! If you aren´t familiar with surveying yet, here are the Overview for Newcomers: HST Surveys (named after the Monia Cafe Hot Seat Threads since this is where it all started) are fun surveys held once a week. There will be a new topic for each survey each week and we will crown a winner for each survey every Sunday. However, these surveys are not just asking for your opinions, but rather consist of a "question game" with sometimes very random questions, so you might end up with a result that will surprise you ;) Our first season which ran for 42 weeks (= 42 surveys) is over, and what you will be reading here are the rules for our 2nd season which will start on July 25th :) Participating: There are two ways to take part in the Surveys here in Monia Café! 1. If you have a Hot Seat Thread, i will be posting the new survey there every week and you can answer it there too of course. 2. If you do not have an active HST, you can take part by posting your answer right here in this thread as i will be posting the surveys here as well and change the title of the thread each week so that it fits ^^ You do not have to participate in every single survey! You can do as many or as few as you like ^^ Procedure: I will be posting a new survey each Monday. If you want to participate, please answer the survey until Sunday, 7pm CET. I will collect all results and then present the final standings on Sunday. Each Survey will consist of a "Full Version" and a Short Version. Step 1 is a nomination step and Step 2, called "Eliminator", will quickly bring you down to your winner by answering a few short questions. Short Versions take less than 5 minutes to complete. Each survey will be ranked like this: 1. Most Total Wins 2. More Wins from different Participants 3. More Full Version Wins 4. More Finals 5. More Total Nominations 6. If still tied, Voting Poll KEEP IN MIND THAT HST SURVEYS WILL ALWAYS HAVE ANIME CHARACTERS OR ANIME AS WINNERS! If you want to look at the 1st season, you can look up the victory presentations of all surveys in my blog section here:http://myanimelist.net/blog/PhKay Don´t spoil yourself! Don´t click the next spoiler button until you have answered the question/step you are currently at. Also don´t take this survey too seriously and have fun! ^^ You can do the Full Version, the Quick Version or both if you feel like it! THE OLYMPIC SURVEY! Step 1: This week, the Olympic Games will start! It´s time for us to decide who we want to send there to represent the Anime Nation! Nominate as many anime characters (minimum 4) who can be seen doing an Olympic sport in their anime as you want! They don´t have to be from a sports anime and they don´t have to be athletes. Everyone who has a scene doing sports is valid as long as the sport is represented at the Olympics! Step 2: Oh no! The Anime Nations´ National Olympic Committee made a massive mistake and signed one character too little up for the Games! As a result, the characters have to hurry to Rio de Janeiro as quickly as they can, with the last one to arrive not being able to participate! Who arrives at the venue last? Eliminate him/her! Step 3: Competition time! For each competition, give 3 points to the winner and -1 point to the worst character! After all competitions are done, send the two characters with the most points to the final! Eliminate the rest! TIEBREAKER: If 2 or more characters are tied for 2nd place at the end, redo C1 with the tied anime only! C1: The Olympics start with the Opening Ceremony and carrying your national flag there is a huge honor! Which character would you choose to carry the Anime Nations´ flag? Who would be your last choice? C2: Rio offers a pretty spectacular nightlife and your Olympians feel tempted to explore it! Who has the best/worst discipline in order to be ready for the next morning´s events? C3: Which character is most likely to win a medal? (no -1 here! also: skip this if nobody stands the slightest chance) C4: Thousands of people are in the crowd and millions are watching all over the world so being able to handle pressure and nervousness is essential! Which character can handle it the best/the worst? Step 4: Welcome to the Final! What are your Top 3 Olympic Events you look most forward to? Let the finalists compete against each other 1 on 1 in each event you chose! If you picked team sports, pretend that the characters´ teammates all play at the same level as the character. Who wins at least 2 out of the 3? Crown him “Anime´s Olympic Champion!” In this case, crown the character you enjoyed watching more in his anime the Winner! Step 1: This week, the Olympic Games will start! It´s time for us to decide who we want to send there to represent the Anime Nation! Nominate 5 characters who can be seen doing an Olympic sport in their anime! They don´t have to be from a sports anime and they don´t have to be athletes. Everyone who has a scene doing sports is valid as long as the sport is represented at the Olympics! The Eliminator! The characters compete in each of the following Olympic Events! On each event, eliminate the character who does worst! The character left standing at the end wins! E1: 100m Sprint! E2: Archery! E3: Canoeing! E4: Judo! Thank you very much for participating in this survey! ^^ |

Who is your favourite villain in the series? Doffy. I usually like my bad guys to be truly evil, with no room for regrets that ultimately lead them to turn good... and die afterwards. Doffy knows well the dark side of the force, and embraces it. This man doesn't hesitate to sacrifice the lives of his comrades if that helps him to achieve his goals; he thoroughly enjoys other people's suffering, especially if he is the one who inflicts said suffering; he has the god complex, thinking he's superior to the common man; he loves manipulating people (just take a look at his ability); and he has the evil laughter and excentric attire to complete the combo. A truly magnificent bastard, that Doffy. Tarotist said: Let us assume that in the future, it will be mandatory for a human to transfer their minds into machines. PhKay said: Hey Hey what do you say! It´s survey time again!! Happy Monday and Welcome to HST Survey Number 44! Step 1: Griffith (Berserk) - Horseback riding Revy (Black lagoon) - Shooting Matoi Ryuuko (kill la kill) - Tennis Luffy (One Piece) - Boxing Mumen Rider (One Punch Man) - Road cycling Step 2: It might take a while for Mumen Rider to get to Rio from Japan in his bike, so yeah, he didn't make it. Step 3: C1: Griffith was kinda born for recieving such honors. If it came down to Revy or no flag, I'd choose no flag. C2: Ryuuko can be surprisingly disciplined. Things look ugly for Revy. C3: Luffy... If he wears the afro. C4: Oh, Griffith loves the attention. Ryuuko might suffer here. So Griffith and Luffy go to the final. Step 4: Football, Tennis, Cycling! I don't know if luffy could handle a bike, so cycling goes to Griffith. Since Luffy can stretch his arms, tennis should be rather easy for him. Luffy and his crew would probably win the football match, somehow. There you have it! Anime's Olympic Champion is Monkey D. Luffy! Till next time! |
