THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This was a very different anime, especially one filled with mechas. They didn't have some sort of final battle and battles only served to mess with relationships. To be honest, I loved with very-focused romance part, but it seems like Mamiko Noto did still end up with that loser.

Nonomi was the best part of this anime though, hands down. So cute not being able to stay awake for the countdown. <3

agreed. it was very anti-climactic, but it still gave off a that "good ending" vibe. unlike most mecha series, this one in particular was romance driven with a touch of drama and tragedy... for me, it was bittersweet xP

I also expected a final battle with a death of someone tied heavily to the plot. but even with my expectations laid to rest, i still enjoyed it very much ^^

this series is very unappreciated and i feel deserves a little more attention, but that's just me and my ramblings.

It was ok. The main plot got switched halfway into romance only. Hayami is such a wimp. He should just switch his role with Mai lol.

i gotta say after what he said in the restaurant and then what you heard her say in the street to the camera... i kinda felt for the wimp.

she still thought about the guy who died, and she still didn't really let go off the past even though she had feelings for Hayami (who, lets face it wouldn't say boo to a goose).

i also felt for the poor dude who kept chasing after that woman and being rejected everytime.

it was a sweet ending for those two, especially the ending credits where you actually see Hayami's face as the one she was waiting on... there was a lack of mecha action considering and i wanted bad luck girl to get the girly haired boy :-/

Still dont really like it. Mai is sti hesitant between past and present and it pisses me off. Hayami is just being led around by the nose and its sad.

this! It was irritating that the supporting cast needed to interfere about their relationship.

Hayami's stupiness is beyond me. He acted like a girl throughout the series. And Mai can you please throw that picture of your crush already?

Both mc were unlikeable so 3/10

9/10 for the series, just because Hayami, could me an easy 10/10 but he couldnt man up and talk straight without fear until the last second. I liked mai, beside the part of sill having the damm potrait(wth), i liked her. I wish Hayami could me more reliable to understand her love for him, that lack of confident is sad.
The serie really missed some scenes of hayami doing greatness instead of just cry, just one scene on the snow isnt enough you know?

I just needed to see more of this series, =/ 12 episodes isnt enough.

I enjoyed this series but was really struck by the change of tone in the story. It started out as a mecha(slice of life story, but then it went into full on romance territory.

Evangelion wannabe, but with a bland, cluttered and indiscernible cast that get nearly no characterization, horribly boring action, melodramatic tone shifts, and lack of direction in all avenues with the constant genre swapping. It's like this anime was afraid to spend any amount of time to develop anything that was going on in it, jumping around scene from scene, person to person, spending no time like a monkey. This is an absolute mediocrity. The world building was nice, and so was the soundtrack, but the world building was thrown aside episode 8 onwards when the anime became more about having it's robotic cast do purely slice of life mischief and force the relationship of Shinji(Hayami) and Asuka(Mai) jr with plot devices and contrivances(see episode 8 which revolved entirely around the fan girl of Hayami confessing to him under a misunderstanding to make Mai jealous). It's not inherently bad, but there's nearly nothing good about it except the two things I mentioned. Everything else is simplistic and boring, never taking a step to develop itself, getting lost in it's massive and bland robotic cast. Easiest 5 I've ever given. 5/10

It would be more great if the mc badass at least not wimpy like hayami but this is also a shounen anime so i cant blame him
Really enjoy the final episode though when the wimpy mc finally confess to mai i think only this part that i like from this series honestly and the other character is not that lovable its kinda hard for me to finish this because the biggest hurdle is this is a old anime with a bad graphic for these days and the shounen wimpy character mc too

Many people hate hayami for asking cant forget him and some people also hate when mai cant forget the past dont worry I HATE BOTH OF IT LOL but the ending make me twice luckily so i rate it 6/10 if not because of the ending it will be 4,5/10 maybe the plot is not that good for mecha anime

After the disappointment that is Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, this anime feels pretty good. The battle scenes are subpar, with dreadful colors and it's kind of repetitive, but the slice of life and romantic stuff more than made up for it.

The anime started really bad, with incomprehensible battles, with poorly presented characters, without any emotional attachment to any of those who died until episode 6, everything they built in the first 6 episodes can almost totally be thrown in the trash, in the second half, the anime changes its rhythm almost completely, it goes from a mecha war anime to a romance anime, slice of Life. I think the only character that manages to captivate us from beginning to end was Nonomi, speaking of the characters I think that in this final stretch I can say that the secondary ones are ok, they are even fun, although I still haven't gotten attached enough to care whether they die or live.
About the main characters, Mai is a typical tsundere, she is good in combat but I believe that her background before arriving in the class is very bad for a main character background, her having had a love before the protagonist complicates the plot a lot, until because it wasn't very well explored, maybe someone very good could make a very good story out of it, but that's not the case with this anime. About Atsushi, he's really an ass, although I don't think it's the love part, he had several obstacles that made it difficult, among them we have Mai's personality, which is almost impossible to know if she hated him or liked him, of course if we had from his perspective, we also have the ghost of her “ex”, which made it very difficult for the two to approach, apart from that, there is still the problem that they were in the same unit and not only that, but they shared the same mecha, now on the rest, atsushi was really a bad protagonist, he had nothing special, apart from him being able to go through the aliens without being attacked, what was in a single episode was never explored again and is not something exclusive to him, in the rest the only thing he What's special was being able to be Mai's partner, that is, the story only revolves around him because Mai exists, he wouldn't make any difference if he existed.
The ending was very good, it had the "outcome" for the couple, Atsushi managed to declare himself, I don't hate him actually it's understandable since Mai is kind of thick, there was no way for him to know that she liked him, and in the position that he was, him declaring and taking a dump would jeopardize the whole operation, since they are not only part of the same squad but also pilot a mecha together.
The only problem with the ending is that it should be a final fight of mechas and not a romance ending, although I liked it, the anime was very confused in the rhythm and ended up running away from the initial proposal.
For me it's impossible to give a rating higher than 6, unfortunately, so the rating will be 6/10, I think if the anime had focused 100% on romance, maybe it would receive a rating of 7.

PT-BR

It was kind of disappointing.. it was super unfair for the guy. Many people hate him for saying she can't forget her ex lover. But be fair guys. Would you like to have a relationship with someone who keeps her lover's photo in her room, sleeps with the photo often . I am certain no. I thought she would keep the photo in the closet then get over the past. But what is this ending. Before the Christmas scene, she was crying declaring her love for her past love , infront of him, now he just goes to her and confesses and she accepts with a cheeky smile. What next? They will be sleeping together while her ex's photo on the table!!!!!.. When he told her about remembering her ex in the restaurant. Everyone was bad mouthing him. But anyone in his shoe will think the same.
So disappointing ending.. who ever directed this was super biased. Both the characters are not likable. Guy is a weakling and simp while the girl is arrogant, insensitive . Good for them . I suppose
