What exactly is the reason behind limiting people without MAL text or PHP in their sig to 110px whereas the others can be 140px?

If you say incentive to use MAL sigs I'm going to **** a baby.

Why can't it just be 140px for all? Especially since using a sig without MAL information means for sure it's not even hosted on MAL.

That's just dumb.

140px for consistency and so that the other people wont have to change their sigs.

I support this idea. I think it should be 140px for all sigs. It has to be for MAL sigs so that you can have room to display the list updates, and then I think it should be the same for non-MAL sigs for consistency.

Even if we support, will they even make the signature size limit to 140px height max?

Thing is, it's easy for them to say yes in this situation.

I believe the rule was probably set in place for when the MAL sigs first came around, to give incentive. That's kind of old and outdated now, even though I frequently swap between both types.

No updates are required, just a simple tweak in the rule-set is all it would need.

Not to mention the obvious confusion set in place by having two different sig rules. All you have to do is browse some larger threads and you can see that.

This. I never understood why normal signatures can't be 140px also.

I support this idea.

I have seen huge sig all over the club section. Apparently, it seems that the ones with the huge sig are never seen in the main forum section and thus, it is okay to have sig that takes up half a page.

Well, the people who post out in the general forums are more likely to attract attention, because the mods are always there to see posts. But if someone posts only in clubs, they might not be picked up on as quickly, unless they're reported, or someone comes by those club threads. However, in general the rules are the same, and when they come out they'll get caught. The limits on sigs should be definite though. Uniformity seems like a good idea, regardless of the absolute height.

Only on an anime forum will you ever find people complaining about how much they can or cannot attentionwhore themselves via signatures.

I believe that the current forum signature limits on non-mal sigs is obsolete. I understand that when people used to visible updates for their signatures that sure, it could be larger to accommodate the updates.
However, at this point with people putting only 1 update, or making php signatures with incredibly hard to read updates, it is fairly meaningless to restrict non-mal sigs. Heck, I think the larger non-mal sigs will often be more simple looking, and hardly any more an eye sore.

I think 140 should be the maximum height for any type of sig, mal updates or not. Most of the sig infractions I see are in the area of "140 px but not mal sig." Would be a lot easier to stop caring about that, since I really don't get why sigs with mal updates are given special treatment.

p.s. My sig is not making fun of that by the way! I originally made it to be a sig w/o updates but then added them later because I thought they were cute.

Yes, I still merged it, since I didn't feel that the "current situation" is that much different from 2 months ago. I kept your poll though, since that does have merit.

Threads merged

Edit: Considering this thread has now been changed from a general MAL question to a suggestion asking for a change.......

no, because you created another thread. yours was merged with this one, which was in another forum. the poll is a good addition though. /explanation

on topic > mal signatures are relatively tame compared to some other forums, where the max is much bigger. but usually the max is the max. so, good idea.

I have heard that reporting 140px sigs w/o updates is not being enforced nearly as strictly as it once was.

Would be nice if the rules could be updated so there is no confusion about this, though.

Awesome! I think this will be for the best. Especially with the onslaught of newer members; it will make things less confusing.

Should somebody make an announcement? (Or shall we just let people figure it out?) It's a pretty big change.
