So I got an old 2010 pc and I was trying to overclock it but I was reading it's a good idea to first check bios updates and as I did that I found I need one so I download the program to update and it starts running and it says " warning if any programs are running close them or something. So I get freaked out and turn off the power to my pc and then when I try to start it up again I get a black screen and my pc just keeps restarting won't fully boot up. Im clueless what to do next please help.

The rule of thumb is "NEVER" switch off the computer during BIOS update and there is a saying if it is working don't fix it. Only if a problem persists then you may need to update BIOS that will resolve a problem.

You have two options

1. Buy a new computer
2. Ask alienware for the BIOS chip since you probably have burned it or destroyed it and it may cost money depending if you have guarantee or warranty which may cover

Never motherboards would even allow BIOS flashing without even booting. But I doubt yours is very new.

Basically I am going to start by saying that you mobo is very likely to just be a brick. At least by my limited knowledge.

From you other thread I see you have this mobo, correct?

You could try to reset the BIOS. I was going to type out a guide my self, but found one of dell's. Here. The part you are looking for is near the bottom. Chapter 22: "Clearing Forgotten Passwords and CMOS Settings".

When they say "if any programs are running close them", that isn't anything bad. If you are working on something in Microsoft Word for example, they are giving you this warning so that you can save your work.

Sounds like the BIOS is corrupt.

I've heard removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes can sometimes fix it. The problem is that it was updating when you shut it down so that probably won't fix it.

Do try to reset the BIOS at least once, you might be able to get some money off of the PC, instead of just sending it to some junk yard.

When you are resetting the BIOS, there is no pressing buttons removing the battery, you simply short 2 different pins on the motherboard itself. My earlier post has a link to a guide. Specifically for you motherboard.

this image is of the specific part you are looking for, as you can see, all you need to do is move the jumper for 5 seconds. If you do not do this, the BIOS will NOT reset.

^ The OP said hes getting a new pc so it doesnt matter if he resets the BIOS. Only if the OP still desires to fix it then he will do it

IMO it matters, the old PC he has doesn't become irrelevant as soon as he decided it will be replaced. It can be recycled, fixed, sold, reused.

Instead of just making it electronic waste it should be handled properly, a part of "handling properly" with hardware like what OP has is trying to fix it. Op's current hardware isn't bad by modern standards, not by a long-shot. Fixing it would yield more money when sold, or alternatively OP wouldn't need to buy a new PC just yet.

What he does with the hardware now could matter significantly towards what he will be able to get later.
