I didn't know how to type this as a title without being very long winded, so appologies. What I am saying is that when a series is popular enough to get multiple movies, the first usualy are godawful to the point they can be unwatchable later.

First and most notable case is Pokemon, the First Movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back. Let's get beyond the fact that atleast 500 of the 600 pokemon episodes are the damn same, and the first movie's english script, message and music are awful at best and doesn't make sense to the franchise, it's still a pretty crappy movie in comparason to some of the later movies, even if they are nothing more than expanded episodes.

Reason? It's Mewtwo going wangsty for 90mins and magical pokemon tears. Let's not forget the "IT NEVA HAPPENED!!!" screwover end. Yeah, pokemon changed in Johto, for better or worse is divided, but atleast the movies got better plots than this, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 11 being notable.

While DBZ is a clunker with it's movies not fitting in the story at all, it suprisingly avoids this. It's second movie falls to this. But let's go back the where it started, Dragonball. Dragonball Curse of the Blood Rubies. It's horrid. Actualy worse than DBZ's The World's Strongest. But what makes it bad? Instead of being an original story, like everything else here, it's just a butchered Pilaf arc, minus Pilaf. Great movie there >_>

Then we have Bleach and Naruto, which fall into the same catagory. Theatrical Filler. No alt universe like DB/Z, no promotional tool like Pokemon, no where near as bad, well, Bleach anyway. I have yet to see Bleach 2 or 3, so someone can talk about them. But Naruto, dear god is the first one painful. It's too "real world"y, but with Ninjas, taking away some of the feel of the series, the new characters are unlikable and the movie is animated sedative. Then we go to 2 and 3, which while are also Theatrical Fillers, feel like Naruto, are decently entertaining and in 3, a decent story.

What I will say about Bleach Memories of Nobody is that it's not a bad movie, not anywere near as bad as Naruto 1, it's just quite boring. It's realy hard to sit through. But as bad as Naruto 1 is, nothing beats the english dub of Pokemon 1 in utter unadulterated garbage.

How dare you! Pokemon: The First Movie was pure gold! A classic that fulfilled the lives of many children throughout the world. And to say that Pokemon 4Ever has a better plot than Pokemon 3: The Movie... well I never... to that I say tosh! Movies derived from series aren't usually the best in the world, but Pokemon was the icing on the cake.

Those are just a few examples that some people might even disagree with. Urusei Yatsura for instance is the exact opposite, the first two movies are wonderful (the second one being one of the best movies about a series I've ever seen), but the final 4 are very sub-par, due to director changes.

Naruto's first movie is still the best of them all. But yeah, generally speaking the movie spinoffs of major franchises tend to suck quite a lot. Inuyasha movie 3 and Naruto movie 1 are the only ones I've liked much at all.

Most all movies from an already established series are pretty mediocre, IMO.

Yea that awful Pokemon movie made a fuck ton of money world wide. Nintendo was laughing their asses off all the way to the bank.

Also what do you expect all those series are aimed at 9 year olds and retarded fan boys. Not to mention they're just cash ins. The studio decides "Hey how can we whore out this franchise even more. I know lets make a movie that has no baring what so ever on the main series! The idiots that watch this garbage will eat it up!" So I don't really know what you complaining about you essentially looked through a pile of dog shit expecting to find a bar of gold and got disappointed when you didn't find one.
It doesn't think, it doesn't feel, it doesn't laugh or cry..... All it does from dusk till dawn is make the soldiers die.

The first Inuyasha movie was pretty good, even better than the second IMHO.

And I, for one, liked The World's Strongest. Don't ask me why, though.
No problem is insoluble in all conceivable circumstances.

First and second were 'alright' but the third was a crapload better, while the fourth was terrible.

I can't believe anyone actualy prefers Pokemon 1 to anything. Rose tinted glasses? Mewtwo's "Rule of Cool" overrides the shittyness of the movie? Could someone explain how it's actualy a good pokemon movie, letalone movie?

It has Mewtwo in. Pokemon never won any awards for story, its about the characters over anything else. Children wanted to see their favourite characters from the TV series and the rarest, most awesome Pokemon around at the time, which was Mewtwo. And thats exactly what they got, and thats exactly why they loved it, and thats exactly why its has a special place in many peoples hearts. Pokemon is probably the reason a lot of people are on this website today. It's the very origin of anime for many.

Well, I liked the first Bleach movie (Memories Of Nobody) but the second one (DiamondDust Rebellion) was much better.

What I find even more silly is all the whoring with synopsis movies that may or may not have a new scene or a different ending in it.

I liked Pokemon the First Movie. I don't remember much of the second movie and never saw any of the others.

I thought the first Sailor Moon movie was better than the others. I liked the first Tenchi and Inuyasha movies better than the later ones I saw as well. I just seem to like the first movies better. I haven't seen a lot of movies from series though.

Let me add more indignation to this truthful thread! Eureka Seven: Pocket Full of Rainbows. What the hell was that?! Nice way to ruin a series dude... After watching it I could not believe anime movies had sunk so low.
