Close friends. There's nothing romantic about it. Your reasoning is proven false by Reina's confession in episode 10. No matter what Reina does with who or anyone... until she does a similar confession that equals her confession on that particular episode, it will not hold water. She already made it clear who she loves. |

@imeon His post was just reaction to yours, truth to be told running fingers through hair like that gets you greased out and that cut alone was noticeable slower then the cut after. Surely there was no intention in something romantic as it was the same with bro fist with Shuichi, no reason to ruin the mood with personal grudges at such a important event, therefore temporarily cease fire. If we want to see some progress between those two then it is up to Shuichi to step up and ask what is wrong with Kumiko(or realizes), till then we get what we have. But as i have mentioned earlier this show would be truly good if there were no pampering to certain group with its shenanigans and stayed pure, then it would have been a truly good show. Could you have taken seriously Barakamon if it had crossed leg deformation "service" with meaningless subtex and what not that comes along, would wolfs children be presentable to many festivals around the world with the same direction of kyoto animation. And now why did i mentioned Wolf children, probably because I believe that something truly good can come out from kyoani if it would take the right turn, it already has production value that many studio can only wish for. It's like watching an grown man playing with children's toys which is truly sad. And what is even more sadder now that show is finished is that they'll turn to how much they have profit from life size pillows that they sale. And which is even more sadder are the people that supports all that. |

We're all entitled to our opinions. Some will strongly believe that it's shoujo-ai maybe even yuri, others will jump out and try to push down stating that its being over-thought about. Which is all fine. This is a thread for: Is it? or is it not? So it is quite normal to have arguments about this since most people cannot come to accept someone else's opinion. -------------- I would just like to point out that I really enjoyed the scene where Hazuki gave Kumiko and Reina matching charms. It felt as if Hazuki recognized them with a strong connection (even previously where she told Kumiko to invite Reina for lunch). Reina and Kumiko have developed a very strong friendship since the beginning, and this cannot be denied. I will say that upon getting to know many native Japanese girls, they are very friendly and are much more open to each other. They have open baths for crying out loud, i would say that most of them are completely fine with looking at each other naked. To westerners this may be unusual, but only because we have hardly ever done it; we aren't open to such a culture. --------- Because I am gay myself I did appreciate and enjoy the little snippets of Reimiko in this series. And also a current strong band-geek, I can say i did enjoy the musical part of this series very much, and I'm slightly glad about the open-ending. I do have hope for a potential movie, but they did what they wanted to do: Go to nationals. And as we saw, they did indeed make it to nationals. While although we did not get to see them at the actual Kyoto Competition, this series did its job of meeting the band's goal. The drama within the series is quite accurate as well. In my band, and almost in every band i have met, they all have drama that is happening with the members outside of the actual band room. ------- I am totally okay with others saying that this series is not shoujo-ai or yuri, but please respect my opinion and i will do the same. :) It's been a nice journey with everyone! |

What does she really feel for Reina? what does she really feel for Shuichi? Only Shuichi can open Kumiko's cover. As far as the novel is concern... We won't much have progress until Volume 4 Sokah said: *facepalm* you people probably think stop lights at an intersection are lesbians with all their red signals and green signals and especially the yellow signals, those are rock solid proof. How people show affection to each other, between family members ad between friends, really varies from culture to culture. So it's not right to assume that all "gestures" have the same interpretation. Aside from personal preferences, lets put into consideration the culture of the people in the show. |

Well, I wouldn't say Reina having a crush on the teacher totally destroys any possibility of her liking Kumiko since it's totally possible to have more than one crush at a time and thus like multiple people at the same time. sometimes to varying degrees. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Either way, from an anime standpoint only, it's all up in the air. Without anything being explicitly defined as romantic in-universe we can't conclusively call anything canon, so whether or not it's yuri is really up to viewer interpretation of the text. Which can definitely vary since people's own experiences play a large role in how they perceive the characters' interactions. So, with that being said, it's not really hard to believe that some of us would think of Kumiko and Reina's interactions as romantic, especially those of us who are gay ourselves. And I guess it's possible to see them as close friends too, since I've similarly had some super touchy friends. Or you could even see it as queerplatonic if that's to your fancy. So, really, at the end of the day, this is pretty much a matter of opinion. As such, there's not much point in debating about it. If you think they're totally gay for eachother, cool. Don't? Cool. I mean, I think they're totally into eachother, but that's just me. Again, think of them as whatever. What we do know for sure though is that they've formed a really close bond, and hey, that's damn cool, you know? Incredibly hard to make connections that run that deep. And yea, I know about the novels and Shuichi and all that, but I'm talking about just the anime lol. Obviously things went down a bit differently so a distinction ought to be made. ^^ |

WrongPriest said: Imeon makes this thread worth reading. True :3 Never stop protecting your ship! :3 In the end, it is still ambiguous. KyoAni wants to play in the safe spot and cater to both fans and they really put effort and emphasis to it. :3 IMO, Kumiko x Shuichi moments can never top Kumiko x Reina, everything about it overshadows things about Shu and Taki-sensei. I admit I also like that moment when Shu encourages Kumiko before there performance and the scene in episode 12 when Reina got shocked when Kumiko said she is alone with Taki sensei, that was kawaii moments but it's just that to me. Well, KyoAni should clear this things up in season 2... (if there is) |

Shuuichi x Taki-sensei anyone? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) So the finale left it ambiguous, which is for the best really. Because I can keep dreaming of my yuri ship without being denied by canon, including the wildest dream of KyoAni gathering some balls and making it canon in season 2 against whats best for the sales (WHY doesnt yuri sell, anyway?). They would get my eternal praise for that... yes I know it wont happen, but dont ruin my fantasies, please. |

The way they play around with the idea is WAY past "queerbaiting" or anything like that. The means are there, but it's left ambiguous in the end. We see no other characters in the show interact with each other the way we see Kumiko and Reina interact. The whole "Haghhhh, Japanese culture, I've seen an anime with a bathhouse episode! Girls touch girls boobers all the time as straight heterosexual friends!" argument is as moot as can be with these two. Kumiko never shows any interest for Shu. She DOES show a great amount of interest for Reina. Also, Imeon going "this unrequited love is just a fluke but THIS unrequited love is CANON." is hilarious. |

I know people are mesmerized by the hand holding and the hair tying, I don't blame them; easy to get lost with physical interaction but perhaps you missed out on Reina blushing over Taki-sensei with a tux on? Or refuse to acknowledge the scene? I knew this was going to happen. They're practically trying to trick people in broad day light. Trollish people they are. Their intent can already be seen in the ED from get go (Sapphire hugging tightly Reina despite never interacting, really?) and all red string crap despite Reina proclaiming her love for Taki-sensei (she confesses to him near the end of the story btw and just disappears after that) so if there is another season expect her to be still crushing on Taki-sensei and getting physically intimate with Kumiko at the same time since why the fuck not? Got to keep luring them in. I'm still pretty confident with my ship despite all. And anyone notice Taki-sensei's picture of her wife holding a certain flower? Yup. |

I should rewatch the entire series and count how many times the characters blush. I could compare how many times it's caused by a man vs how many times its caused by a woman. One tiny blushing scene and saying "Not like, love." completely removes the feelings of the main freakin' character, for some reason? EDIT: Also, this is all implying that a person can't like boys and girls, or be attracted to two people. |

gnodab said: So that automatically makes the ship canon? That's how things works now? :D Please finish your sentences :D I do not know why people still send Reina and Kumiko, the last episode is an exact copy of the last chapter of volume 1 Light Novel. 1 Light Novel. Each volume of Light Novel, there is a deuteragonist different , that plays an important role in the life of Kumiko. Volume 1 - Reina Volume 2 - Mizore Volume 3 - Asuka Reina only have relevance in Volume 2 for the plot of Taki-Sensei. Reina becomes jealous and obsessive regarding Taki-Sensei, the past Reina and Taki-Sensei is revealed, and Taki-Sensei telling the Reina about his dead wife, the jealousy crisis and obsession of Reina for any woman that comes close to Taki-Sensei. If we have a second season, it would be an adaptation of the second volume of Ligth Novel. Mizore takes the place of the Reina and becomes deuteragonista in the second volume 2. The volume 2 is the one that contains the largest number of yuribaits, ie they occur between Kumiko and Mizore. The focus of volume is Mizore, special moments and dialogues important and take place between Kumiko and Mizore, and most importantly the yuribait occur between Kumiko and Mizore. Reina also does not have much relevance in volume 3, except his confession to Taki-Sensei, the volume focuses on Mamiko and deuteragonist is Asuka. Even if KyoAni, do not create a second season or a movie, can be to leverage the sale of novels. And the end so you will know by reading the Ligth Novel. |

Kumiko confirms his feelings for Shuichi. 「私も、秀一のこと好きだよ」 …but also refusing to turn down her offer of kindness, Shuuichi reluctantly wrapped it around his neck. Whether or not it was from Kumiko’s own body heat, its fabric had roughly felt warm to the touch. “It suits you.” She laughed in a somewhat curious way, and then suddenly placed her hand on his shoulder. Pressed against such force, Shuuichi spontaneously tilted his body towards Kumiko. The lifting of her heels had playfully come into sight. Kumiko stood tip-toed and she held her hand close to his ear, with her lips following suit. This froze Shuuich’s body in place, even while his heart was bouncing — with Kumiko ever so close to him, Shuuichi found her presence difficult to ignore. Kumiko’s voice had flowed, with the sigh of her breath tickling his ears, and the sweet fragrance of her shampoo striking his nose. Shuuchi did not move, but he was absolutely certain of the words she had just imparted to him. “I love you too, Shuuichi.” 2016 - Hibike Love Story |

I can accept the possibility of crush/admiration by Reina to Kumiko or vice versa. but, let's just not go beyond crushes and say she loves them both romantically. That will make her appear bi or a swinger at the same time. I don't think Kyoani will approve of that, neither do I. Doubledog said: The thing is that even Japanese people ship KumiRei, so... And if anything, this poll proves this point as this poll isn't even about who people ship but rather a question that has a real answer, so it is reasonable to assume everyone saying it's shoujo ai either ships them and holds the hope that they change it or at the very least sees the potential of their relationship and is unaware of the novels. The people who are saying no are those that don't ship Kumiko and Reina, which includes Kumiko x Shuuichi and Reina x Taki combined and those that may ship Kumiko and Reina but accept the fact that they aren't canon. The fact that shoujo ai is winning is enough proof that it's the most popular ship. |

That will make her appear bi or a swinger at the same time. I don't think Kyoani will approve of that, neither do I. Whether or not anyone approves or will make it happen is irrelevant. What I'm getting at is that it's entirely possible to love multiple people romantically, and since this possibility exists and its application doesn't contradict anything stated in the anime canon, it makes the idea of Reina loving Kumiko not an impossibility in the text of the show. So with that, it's a valid interpretation of the text. It doesn't matter whether or not it happens, I'm just saying it can be reasoned out in-universe without retconning anything. And I'll have to correct you on something: The idea I'm getting at is more tied in polyamory and doesn't really have anything to do with what you call "swinging". There's a distinct difference between polyamory and promiscuity. Promiscuous = characterized by or involving indiscriminate mingling or association, especially having sexual relations with a number of partners on a casual basis; indiscriminate; casual; irregular; haphazard [source] Polyamory = the practice, desire, or acceptance of having more than one intimate relationship at a time with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved; consensual, ethical, and responsible non-monogamy. It is distinct from swinging (which emphasizes sex with others as merely recreational) [source][source] Pretty much as shown here. It's possible to date two people and be committed to both of them while closing the relationship off to any newcomers, for example. And then you can have a triad, in which a three-person relationship has every member loving the two other members. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with all that since so long as everyone is on the same page and the relationship is healthy and functional and not causing harm then I don't see a logical reason to deny such a thing. But I digress that this idea is relatively not widely-accepted, so you can think whatever of it; I similarly don't care. Just wanted to clarify that it wouldn't be "swinging" if someone was in love with more than one person. But yea, not really looking for a moral debate here or anything (let's not.jpeg) just stating the facts of how that stuff works. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ As a disclaimer, I'm not polyamorous myself, I just know a decent bit about it. I'm actually grayromantic so just me having a crush is a rarity lol. ...although Reina can't date the sensei 'cause pedophilia and the breaking of student-teacher professionalism is a no, so we wouldn't even be getting into polyamory much to begin with by saying she could love both of 'em since she could only really act upon the Kumiko route. -shrug- Not only that, but the actual strength of her feelings for the sensei is never really elaborated upon past her own words; we never even really see them interacting much (and never alone together to my memory) so it's difficult to gauge whether she's genuinely in love or merely mistaking infatuation for love, so that's similarly subjective. whew, sorry for the long post, kinda dug into stuff like usual, aha. ;; |
