| One Piece in one volume now almost sells as much as 1-5 from then. It's total year sales might be more than 1-20 of this year's total sales. That's pretty interesting. |

Umm no, after Marineford, no manga started selling better. The only manga that sold better are those that had anime boosts and this has always been the case, if anything the sales of most popular manga like Naruto, Bleach etc dropped |

Jesus, you One Piece fans are ridiculous. There is zero correlation between one piece boost in Strong world, and other manga selling more. This is especially dumb, when you go back to 2006 where Death Note sold more than One Piece, along with Nana in another year. One Piece didn't create the concept of a boost. Nor is it the single reason the manga industry grew over the last decade. |

| All this discussion One Piece increasing the industry or the industry growing over the last decade, is stupid. Why, you ask? Because what you're discussing is the Oricon data. Oricon only started get any kind of reliable data in 2009. Is not that the manga industry grew, but that Oricon started getting better and more information from stores. While this data is good to have an idea of the popularity of the series(though it still lacks comparing with right now), it is a really bad way to see the sales in general. Slam Dunk was since volume 21 printing more than 2 Million copies per volume. From Volume 21 to 23 of Slam Dunk had the record of biggest 1st volume print with 2.5 Million copies. This record was beat by One Piece in 2002 in volume 24: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2002-07-10/one-piece-breaks-sales-record Slam Dunk in this period of time had 5 new volumes, and 1 recently out(3 days before the start of the recording). So I ask you, how a series that prints around 2 Million copies per volume, with 5 new volumes and 1 semi-new volume released in that year, only sold 1,015,509 copies? How did a series that sold 1 Million copies per year for 6 entire years, selling 6 Million copies in total, was able to in 2004, 7 years later and without manga, get to 100 Million copies sold: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-04-26/naruto-is-5th-manga-with-100-million+copies-in-print, 94 million more copies, and it didn't even appeared in the oricon charts from 1997-2004? The answer is simple! It didn't. |
| ^Yeah these sales figures were really doubtfully low especially SD and DC. It's still a good list for comparing the popularities of various manga at the time. |

He is completely right and the numbers in the OP need to be corrected with his numbers. Look at these Weekly Shonen Jump circulation numbers from the 1990s  6.53 million copies a year is peak manga magazine circulation. Nowadays Jump mag circulates about 1.3 million which is pitiful by comparison. So yeah the numbers on the OP are way off and the same goes for the other threads. They all need a "0" added lol. Slam Dunk sold +120m in total across 31 volumes ffs. Do you think that the bulk of those sales came recently? lmao And let's not even get started on Dragon Ball rofl. |
