I don't know, his past work on Digimon was great, and overall his approach was kinda rather mature, and, well, quite different overall from the rest of franchise.

Ah well, hopefully new director will be okay too...

Does this mean that the NTR might not happen?

Mamoru is great love his work but honestly id rather have chiaki j konaka direct. Season 3s Tamer series felt a lot more mature its my favorite now as an adult

that's what I applauded from Konaka, making it deconstructed from a cheesy shounen anime, giving more realistic daily live of the humans, made it more into solid sci-fi instead of merely fantasy, also made "family" a more important role has been my reasons of why I liked Tamers the most

I agree. The Tamer director needs to come back for a whole new original season. One that's aimed at older fans.

I would love a Digimon season with an adult cast aimed at older fans. The potential is huge.

That sounds like a cool idea. Unless it was another alternative universe with new characters to mess around with, I can see Hiroaki Ishida being a main character. I don't know, that guy always struck to me as one of the more interesting adult characters of the series, next to Oikawa and Yamaki.

I don't think the parents were explored enough period. I always wanted to know more about them, particularly with how Matt and T.K.'s father ended up having a role. Truth be told it would be nice if he played some kind of role in Tri.

I feel like that ship has sailed though. The development in the parent characters would have been great in the first two seasons, particularly 02, but in Adventure .tri, it feels a bit out of place to place heavy focus on the parents. However, that doesn't mean they can't use this opportunity to develop the parents a little bit, so I agree with you in that sense.

Anyway, the director's track record is not bad. Legend of the Galactic Heroes? GetBackers? Jormungand? PATLABOR?! Man, these are some seinen classics. I can't wait to see what this director brings to the table in terms of 'mature but non-gritty' content. God knows Savers was 'mature' in the wrong direction.

But he also has a chance of going in the direction of School Days with this season--"Nice Boat" ending-aside.

True, but I've always felt like School Days, the anime, was meant to be a brutal deconstruction of all harem anime. I don't think it's necessary terrible writing (not that Keitarou's credited with the script anyway), but maybe just a misdirection.

If he's going to deconstruct the series for the second time in the Digimon franchise, I'd say... go for it.

The new director directed the Rayearth OVAs and it was darker than the TV series at least. But I hope Konaka Chiaki will be providing the script at least or I doubt there will be a chance for a Dagomon arc.
